I have a Ring and it works well.

We have a Ring doorbell. Works well. I removed the old doorbell, installed the ring doorbell hooked up to the wires from the old one. It lets us know when anyone is near the front door by alarm and video and means to interact verbally.

I have a Ring doorbell. It works well and, if installed correctly, it can replace your existing doorbell button and still operate the old doorbell. Note that you will need to pay for one of their annual services to be able to capture and save videos.

Another option is to buy a Wyze camera that is not connected to your doorbell. They offer many types and are inexpensive on Amazon. They will capture and save video content on the cloud and also on a micro SD data card. And, you don't need to purchase an annual service to use them.

Eufy does not have a monthly fee.

I've installed both Ring and Nest doorbell cameras.

They both work. My only comment would be that Ring cameras start looking bad after a few years. The Nest doesn't. I'm not sure what happens to the rings, but it's like the plastic degrades and it starts looking gnarly. Still works fine, just looks beat up.

You can buy new Ring faceplates on Amazon.

The other thing is why was the bike left out. Just getting cameras they have to be able to ID the person dosen't get the bike back, and gives a false sense of safety.

We have Nest and have had it for over 2 years. It works great and have had no problems. We did have to install a Wifi booster in the guest room next to the door bell due to the concrete walls and metal causing problems with the wifi. We do pay the $6/month so that they keep the recordings for 30 days. My understanding of the difference between Nest and Ring is how soon the recording starts when someone is nearby and that the Nest does a better job. Ring vs. Nest (2022 Comparison)

Just a note that Eufy is owned by Anker which is a Chinese company. Not a big negative in and of itself, but just info for those that track those things.

I would guess most of the fancy doorbells are made in China.

I have the NEST doorbell as well as a NEST outdoor camera in my driveway and they are both recording 24/7 and never have to "start." They do NOTIFY if that is what you mean when a person is seen if they don't recognize them but the camera records 24/7 for 30 days and the oldest rolls off the end. I do notice the doorbell takes a few seconds after someone rings it so on occasion the person can be gone before you can speak with him if you are away from home where you have to deal with cellular service latency. If you just watch the video remotely it's almost realtime.

I have had 2 Ring doorbells now. The current Ring alerts all of our iPhones/iPads/macs that somebody rang the doorbell or walked up to the door

We have our whole house, garage and the whole yard with cameras. We use Blink camera’s (Amazon). These are battery operated (tells you when battery needs to be replaced) which record everything until you delete it. Even if they cut the electric to your house or steal the camera’s you will still have the video’s. They have both inside and outside camera’s. We also have the Ring doorbell.

I currently use a Ring and Blink door bell cameras. My recommendation is for the Blink which is now owned by Amazon. With the Blink system you can install a memory stick into the hub for all of the video storage. You then control the video storage and it's not held in some unknown cloud under some unknown control.

Check out Wyze products. I have their video doorbell on both my houses. Not only alerts and records but also let’s you talk to the person through your phone. Also check out their other products. Their cameras are awesome.

Buy in a safe community

I have a Ring, but I'm switching to Blink as it does not have a storage fee. I am a big Blink fan. Can use one hub with mulitple doorbells/cameras. Also pairs with Alexa.

An Apple AirTag would have shown you where your bike is.

Do you have to have the monthly subscription to get the notifications? I just got a ring doorbell as a gift and it notes on the box that there are APPS for both apple and android phones, but I am not interested in the monthly subscription.

Except if you wanted it to be a doorbell you'd have to superglue it to the front door molding outside and when someone arrives they would have to shout "DING DONG" very loud. :D :D

I think you will need a subscription. The lowest cost plan is $30 per year. When there is motion near the Ring device, it will create a short, 15 second video and save it as a "motion event", and you can review it later. But, without a subscription, it will not save any motion events. The only thing you can do without a subscription is to view the camera in a live view.

I got tired of sitting in front of my computer all day watching the front door, so I broke down and bought the $30 subscription.

Eufy is excellent! I have 9 total, 2 door cameras, in two homes. No monthly fee and fast response and easy to configure. You do need a MicroDisk in each and recordings wrap around. Excellent prices on Amazon. I tried Amcrest and Foscam and Eufy is the best.

How long do the batteries last in the cameras? I was thinking about installing them and was curious if would last 3 months while we are up north over the summer.

My Ring doorbell is wired to the old doorbell button. The low voltage current automatically recharges the battery, so it never needs to be charged. But, the video recording only operates when there is motion detected.

I was looking at a Ring, and did a lot of research. My research led me to an Arlo wireless doorbell. Half the price of a Ring with all of the features. Monthly subscription is the same cost ($2.99/month). You don't need the subscription if you don't want to keep history.

If you have an existing wired doorbell, you can connect the wireless doorbell to it so it constantly gets a trickle charge, yet still works when power goes out.

Quick note that each camera has a $30.00 annual cost. You can have up to 10 cameras .

Has anyone had success with the rind video doorbell switch operating an EXISTING doorbell as well as the wifi connected devices? The reason I ask is that the rind was purchased so that we could know when someone was at the front door when we were not near the existing doorbell. I will be contacting Ring Technical support, but thought this might be faster.

We have 2 homes, one has the ring doorbell and the other the Eufy. I prefer the Eufy. I get face-type portraits from anyone who comes to the door as well as a video of their approach. It's very impressive more so than Ring. I also installed a Eufy AC powered 360 degree spotlight/camera. The tracking of this camera is incredible, it will lock in on the face of anyone roaming within your property.

I love the Blink cameras, it's a great product. I have 6 of them in a seasonal home for keeping an eye on things.

I connected a Ring doorbell to my existing doorbell button with two wires, and it operates the existing doorbell when the Ring button is pressed. The low voltage current from the existing doorbell button also keeps the Ring doorbell battery charged, so you never need to remove and recharge the Ring battery. All of the other Ring functions seem to work as designed.
