Havana 😖

Played Havana yesterday. The greens are terrible unless you like putting on sand greens.

Havana is not a golf course. Hemingway, Kilimanjaro or Kenya. Have you really played or just creating false reporting?

GpaVader 08-15-2022 06:40 AM

Did they just airyated the greens? That's usually why they are full of sand. All part of the maintenance cycle. Unless you are playing for money, we usually just have a two put rule when they are like that.

Good day to work on the old handicap and enjoy the views and company!

NoMo50 08-15-2022 07:25 AM

Aeration schedules for both Championship and Executive courses are published. It's easy enough to look at the schedules, and avoid a course that has been aerated within the past few days.

At least the CC restaurant is still good.

Havana is the Country Club. Hemingway, etc. are just the individual nines. By your reasoning Palmer is not a golf course, Glenview is not a golf course, etc. Nobody says "I 'm playing Hemingway/Kilimanjaro today." They say "I'm playing Havana today."

According to the schedule online, Havana was aerated in early August - so YES.
I don’t know how long the aeration marks stick around in FLA.

Havana IS the name of the CC. He played the courses of Havana. They just did the greens, so if you are worried about the condition of a course, read Golf the Villages and look up the schedule when they do the greens.

Well then there a lot more courses to pick from. If you dislike it play somewhere else! Complaining won’t make grass grow just go somewhere else but I’m sure you’ll find something wrong with any one you go to.

I agree Will. Wish I had seen this post before playing there. It's been 2 weeks since it had been aerated and should have been more healed by now. The course should have been closed it was so bad. BTW...I don't know why you had to get such rude answers from other Villagers and the post on the name of the courses was ridiculous.

jdbd513 08-18-2022 05:55 PM

Where is the list?

Coming in for a few days as a temporary resident and wondering where this list is posted so we avoid recent aeration. Thanks

Bingo.

Maintenance.................one step back, four steps forward.

By your Thread title and emoji, I thought you went to Cuba and did not like it…

Unfortunately for us Summer players sand is a necessary evil. Just played Hacienda and will give kudos(partial) to the superintendent. Fairways are in much better shape than before. Hopefully they will fix greens. Saw a lot or weadlike grass growing up thru similar sand

For those not using the GolftheVillages website, there’s an aeration schedule of all courses on the counter in every pro shop

pendi99 08-29-2022 07:18 AM

Lopez just as bad!

Gary Grahn 08-30-2022 05:40 AM

Played Havana on 8/27

My group played 18 holes on 8/27 at Havana CC(Kilimanjaro/Kenya)the greens were awful. Still had sand, bare spots & very bumpy. We have been playing out of The Villages & have found very good courses at the same price point or even cheaper. We’ve decided to keep playing out of The Villages. And to the poster who’s griping about the original poster saying they played Havana, get a life-he did play Havana CC. I’m willing to bet most people say they are playing Havana, Cane Garden, etc.

What's the statute of limitations on these critical comments? This negative Nellie's post has been up for nearly a month now. Take it down. I guarantee you Havana is in better shape now.

I just played offsite at Mission Inn. Incredible bermuda greens. Shows that it can be done. Perhaps the superintendents here need to go get some tips. When my friends come in from out of town, I will no longer subject them to ridiculous prices for, at best, muni level golf courses.

I'd make the drive to Mission Inn or Orange County National before paying rack rate at any of the Villages "country clubs". Only time they are worth it is the after 4pm $10 twilight rate.

Slk9786 09-21-2022 09:05 AM

Played Havana the other day. Greens were generally in good shape, but a few with little weed clumps. fairways also good.

kkingston57 09-21-2022 10:46 AM

Someone needs to start a Go Fund Me site for TV golf courses for overgrown and/or misplaced trees. Only place that I have seen an overgrown oak tree in the middle of a 5 par fairway(13th at Orange Blossom) If a player hits good long drive, player needs to hit a punch shot from 200+ yards to get past and under the tree or has to hit gap wedge over the tree. Only place I have ever played where a person needs to hit a ball left of the fairway and needs the ball to SLICE back 25-30 yards to hit center of a fairway. (Short white tee 12th at Tierra Del Sol).

Played Hemingway today 10/13, and the conditions were outstanding. No restrictions but some parts of holes were roped off for wet grounds.
Tee boxes were great, greens were great, fairways were great. Also the fairways had that extra 1/4” of grass that golfers have cried for. Definitely a huge plus. Congrats to the greens keeper.

tophcfa 10-14-2022 08:32 AM

Played Hemingway to Kilimanjaro Tuesday the 11th and was happy with the conditions, huge improvement from earlier in the year.

Played Havana on the 12th and I thought greens were in great shape. Got to enjoy a few birdie juices that day!

Played today, great shape
