Marshview

Tried to play Marshview P&P. The conditions overall were very bad. The greens had not been cut or rolled for what appeared to be quite a while. Lumps of grass, and what appeared like someone had taken a knife and cut slices into the greens. The rough area was horrible, grass was way too high, again not cut. In the fairway portion of the hole the areas that had been cut there were piles of dead cut grass over what was grass. The mats were like trying to hit off concrete. Totally unacceptable. Probably worst course we have played.

How much did you pay to play?

Never played a pitch and put and probably never would even before your report. But holly crap, you have to hit off a mat, that’s a non starter! And what difference does it make what the conditions of the fairway portion of the holes are like? It’s a friggin pitch and put!

Hardlyworking 08-23-2022 04:55 AM

Those “cuts” are from the Sandhill Cranes.

RICH1 08-23-2022 05:15 AM

Some people will complain after a “ Happy Ending”…

Hardlyworking 08-23-2022 08:28 AM

I’d rather have beginners learning their swing on the pitch and putts than out in the other courses clogging up the system.

Pitch-n-Putt - good for your 'game'

Hitting from the mat is not all bad. It does teach to hit the ball first with a descending blow, and not scoop it. The greens do need to be maintained better (and at a little faster speed that I witnessed this year). All in all, the Pitch-n-Putts are fun and great for your short game.

Wholeheartedly agree. Great place to learn the swing and course etiquette (if you have somebody that knows what they're doing playing with you). I've only played it when recovering from rotator cuff surgery, short holes meant I didn't have to give a full swing.

I enjoy playing down at Marshview. Depending on the time you play you get to listen to music for all 18 holes then drown your sorrows for either your bad golf or your thoughts on the bad conditions.

Very bratty remark . Answer is $179 a month like we all pay, at least in newer homes south of 44.

MrFlorida 08-24-2022 07:29 AM

Played there many times, seems ok to me, maybe just bad timing on the maintenance schedule.

CoachKandSportsguy 08-24-2022 07:52 AM

Definitely NOT a good course for a ranked amateur! ranked amateurs need to play on the 18 hole courses only! Great for beginners! Excellent for learning golf! excellent for practicing after a long lay off, or recovering from injury

hrenner 08-24-2022 07:53 AM

When you experience a great little course, in wonderful shape, become a cow pasture, it is natural to become sad. I was SO disappointed to see the neglect. Yes, it is free. It used to be free and excellent. Now it is free and almost unplayable due to greens "unputtable".

hrenner 08-24-2022 07:54 AM

I guess i'm "bratty" for experiencing a loss :)

No, you weren’t “bratty”. My comment was uncalled for. My apologies.

You pay $179 just for pitch and putt golf? Seems pretty steep!!

Mcnuke 08-24-2022 11:37 AM

Golf Central sells plastic tees for use on mats. Very simple round ball stands of various heights.

Really? I live on a golf course and have opportunity to witness first hand the skill level of golfers. As a whole, I’d say 98% of them are beginners, a few intermediate…in house landscaping looking for their wayward balls, ball retrievers pulling balls out of water, clubs scouring the tall grass bushes looking for balls, etc. Ha! I love it….even saw a guy take his club and throw it into the marsh…wonder what he told his wife in order to replace it?? LOL 😂 😆

Yeah, really.

remedythis@sbcglobal.net 10-04-2022 10:26 AM

How much you pay was and is not the issue. The Villages boast about golf and the pitch and putts and they should be kept up to at least a playable condition. They are aweful and unputtable. But they are building some more. Take care of what is already in use.

UpNorth 10-04-2022 12:18 PM

I suspect that they've "downsized" their golf to pitch and putt and putt and play to use as much land as possible for profitable houses. Expect MiniGolf to be next.

Well, considering they are building both... I doubt it...

Except for the two 18-hole courses that are planned. I suspect that they have not "downsized".

And don't forget the several new Executive courses either under construction or planned to be built...

Sandhill cranes don't cut. They puncture. They're hired to aerate the courses. That is unless they are Chechen mafia sandhill cranes. Those birds carry switchblades and will cut your fairways soon as look at you. :a20:

Duh, why do you think I put “cuts” in quotes?

Hackers pay amenity fees too.

Hardlyworking 10-06-2022 09:32 AM

So what? At least to hit the ball first on a pitch and putt and then get out on the executive courses like Sarasota.

Green rolled on a pitch and putt??????????? :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

We're lucky if they roll the championship courses every other year

Welcome to the Villages.

I agree I’ve lived on 2 golf courses here and also at the Bay Hill Country Club in Orlando , people seem to show there true colors screaming at there wife’s and friends , hacking up the greens and yes throwing there clubs , even at Bay Hill a lot of bad golfers and quite rude , I ran into Arnold Palmer once after finishing a run, he said to me I see you running but I never see you playing golf , I told him I don’t play , he was silent for a minute and then said very smart a whole lot less frustration in your life to worry about lol

Same price you paid for every executive course in here. This course should have the same standard as any other executive course in here.
How would you like Volusia to have foot tall grass from the tees to the greens? Then have the greens bumpy, areas of dead grass, and have holes.
Last year this pitch n putt was in good shape, this year it’s been the pit of the villages

arickis 10-27-2022 05:42 PM

Marsh View is Terrible!

We just played Marsh View today because Richmond was completely booked. The greens have been totally neglected. You cannot get any practice putting because the greens are so bumpy that you have no idea where the ball will end up. The course is embarrasing. We played last year and it was beginning to be neglected, now it is totally unplayable. I don't know if Mitch Leininger is in charge of this one, but whoever is should hide their head in shame.

Rheimer 10-27-2022 07:27 PM

Hopefully 66Lion you won’t like the Richmond p&p so it will free up tee times for others looking for fun. Quit your bitching.
