Bernedoodles
I saw there was a post on Nextdoor about Bernedoodles. We are on the waitlist with the breeders in Summerfield, for sometime in February. It would be great to get a group going. Sounds like we will have our hands full for a while!
|
With all the amazing mixed breed and even full breed dogs available at pet rescue centers and the local shelters, why would anyone want to wait for an intentionally-mixed-breed dog? Especially one that requires a couple of HOURS of walking every day, and has expensive grooming needs.

Adopt, don't shop...

Poodles are very smart. The miniatures and standards enhance the other breeds' traits. The first ones I remember were the Snoodles and Cockapoos. Then the standards came into play with the Goldendoodles and Labradoodles. Probably won't be too long before we see a Pitboodle.

I was at a friends for dinner, years ago. He had a couple of black labs. Wonderful dogs. Half way thru dinner, my wife had to take me to urgent care, as my throat was closing up... An no, it wasn't a food allergy... I would love a golden retriever, but not enough to need to carry an epi-pen... When my daughter had a cat (it was her roommate's), I could last about 15 minutes in her apartment, before the itching and tearing in my eyes and the sneezing fits started... |

She's incredibly smart, and once you "mutt up" a pure bred, most of the health issues disappear... Plus, I have ZERO allergy issues with her... |

Hopefully everyone got the negative comments off their back. Now to my original post…any Bernedoodles owners wish to share time, experience, etc together?

Bernedoodle
Don't have a Bernedoodle yet but plan to get one. We will be on a wait list too from a breeder in Illinois.

Is it about the dog, or the cute name?

Some people just aren't satisfied until they pay $1400.00. |

Those things cost as much as my Homeowners Insurance….

Yep she is truly a adopt only, she just got a call to pick up 3 berniedoodles, all very sick, and may or may not make it. Hand feeding every 1-2 hours. Came from a back room breeder. Cute as hell, we may adopt one if we are picked, but our age comes into their adoption guidelines |

In my opinion - if you can't stand the idea of getting shedded fur on the carpeting, then don't get a pet. If your priority is carpet first, pet second, then you shouldn't get a pet. If you're allergic to dog fur, then either get a non-allergenic one at the pound, or choose a different species of pet. As long as there are millions of dogs and cats that are rescued, abandoned, unwanted, neglected, there should be no need to "breed" pet dogs. |

A little of topic but what's to like about pit bulls?
When they bite, they lock their jaw shut like Florida alligators. And the owners always insure you: "Don't worry, he wouldn't bite". |

Hence we purchased outs. Neither one was anywhere near the prices people are claiming here... |

Just say no to buying doodles. There is NOT ONE single ethical doodle breeder. Zip, zilch, zero. They are not hypoallergenic. They shed. They have intense grooming needs. They are often crosses of dogs with VERY different body structures and temperaments. You don’t lessen your chances of your golden mix developing cancer, you’ve just increased your chances of your poodle mix developing it. Your Poodle/Pyrenees cross doesn’t know if they should hunt the birds or protect them. Poodle brains are a thing of beauty. Quit ruining them. Please stop doodling EVERYTHING.
If you want a mixed breed dog of unknown size, temperament or background history, adopt a shelter puppy! If you want an ethically bred, purebred dog- then research your breeder and find the right dog for you. Source: Saving Grace Animal Rescue of Maryland |

Or neighbors had a goldendoodle that also caused ZERO allergy issues, yet a golden retriever (or any other Labrador) will cause my eyes to start itching and me to start sneezing... Genetic testing or not, waaaay too many purebreds have developed significant health issues due to overbreeding. Hip problems, cancers, etc... I will agree that the "doodles" are "designer mutts". But what's wrong with that? |
Historically, dogs were bred for specific purposes, now these breeds are called “purebred”. Well, today they are breeding for different purposes (eg these doodle mixes) and these types of dogs are going to be called “purebred” when they get registered at the American Kennel Club. I find it interesting that some people want so badly for time to stand still.
