If you have extra Euros and would like to exchange them for dollars, please message me. I can meet you at any Rec center, home or other location, and I'll pay the going exchange rate. Thanks!

I hope you find some Euros. I have been trying to buy some also but no luck. I think we will just get them once we land in Europe.

Wife and I travel in Europe a lot, and the most economical way to have access to currency is with our Wise Card.
Prefill any currency from your own bank. Minimal ATM charges, and best exchange rate.
Never had a problem anywhere in UK or Europe.
We have had the card for a long time, and top up currencies when exchange rates are are in our favor.
We carry three currencies on our card. US$, GBP, and Euros.

PS. Anyone traveling to UK. Now is a good time to buy GBP.
Lowest £ to$ rate for many years.

FYI, GBP is the abbreviation for British pound sterling. I had to look it up. But, it seems like it should be BPS. Go figure.

A symbol (£) for “pound” or “pounds” is a monetary unit of the United Kingdom. Do I need to look up everything for you Brits?

Carla B 09-01-2022 04:13 PM

Where do I find the "pound" key on the keyboard? and where is the "Euro" key?

Ecuadog 09-01-2022 04:35 PM

£ - (Press and hold Alt + 0163)

Thank you Ecuadog. Now I can mind my £'s and €'s. With your help I found out I have to put NumLk key on, press and hold Alt, type in the code on the Num pad, and when I release the Alt key, the symbol is magically there.

Maybe I should have written that the Benjamin's to Quid's exchange rate is very favorable!:icon_wink:

My wife and I vacationed the UK for three weeks this past July. I went with some British Pounds to use for small purchases and much to my surprise nearly every business insisted on customers using their charge cards. They don't want to handle currency. I could count on one hand when I was able to use the GBP. Came home with nearly all the GBPs I took. Just an FYI. And before any says "they can't do that" they did. So if you want to eat sleep and travel, have your charge cards ready and I recommend you use a card that doesn't charge exchange fees.

It sounds good, but, according to Investopedia:

"GBP is the abbreviation for the British pound sterling, the official currency of the United Kingdom"

Bridget Staunton 09-02-2022 06:57 AM

You can order euro from chase, Wells Fargo etc and get them in 3 days. I usually have euro but will not sell because I go to Ireland often & need them when I get off plane

You are right. Many shops and businesses in UK will not handle cash.
Even my UK bank is cash free, unless from a cash machine!
Funny,as before Covid nobody would accept a CC for less than £5 transaction as it wasn't economical.
Now they will take it for pennies.
Funny old world!

Some cities and states have passed laws that require businesses to accept cash. And, there seems to be a trend to increase the number those laws. Florida tried to pass a law, but it didn't pass. So far, the only business that I know of in The Villages that won't accept cash is Darlins Sweet Shoppe in the Sawgrass Market.

You can get Euros thru one of the Nationwide banks (eg Chase). You need to have an account at the bank I presume. You have to pay and order them. Takes about 3 days, they call you when the have it.

I just bought about $5k in Euros. Ordered at Chase bank and had it within 24hrs. Also, you can order big bills, small bills or combo. The exchange is good right now, or a few days ago. 1 Euro = $1.07 USD. Of course the rate changes daily or maybe hourly, but it’s favorable to the USD right now. Have fun.

Villagesgal 09-02-2022 12:47 PM

Bank of America, you can order them online, pickup at branch. Carry a Visa or Mastercard with an American Express charge card. American Express not accepted everywhere so you have a backup.

Weiserj 09-02-2022 01:22 PM

How much did they charge you?

Larry P. 09-02-2022 01:48 PM

Not sure if this will help you but I have about £49. I have 4-£10's, 2- £2 coins, 2- £1 coin and £3 in .50 coins. Text me at 248-504-9364 if you'd like to make the exchange.

CoachKandSportsguy 09-03-2022 10:24 AM

We have a visa card with zero fx fees, and i checked the rates on the transactions' and it was the current day's fx rate in CAD, used the regular visa card and an 8% transaction fee was tacked on. The bank has been trying to get us to give up the card for a % back card, and no way for them to charge 8% and give me back ?%

visa card finance guy

The easiest way to get Euros is to use your debit/cash card at an ATM at the country you are visiting. ATM’s are everywhere.

Love2Swim 09-08-2022 11:35 AM

I've gotten euros from someone. Thank you all for your responses. I always get euros from a money machine in the foreign country. I have a Schwab card that charges no foreign transaction fees, and reimburses the money machine fees. But its nice to arrive in the country with a few euros on hand, in case I don't find a machine right away.

l2ridehd 09-08-2022 01:42 PM

I have about 120 euros if you are still looking. PM me with contact info
