Time for the snowbird migration season to begin

September is upon us and it’s getting cold up here in the Berkshires. Just closed up the windows and put on a sweatshirt for the first time in a very long while. Temperature is dropping fast and is forecasted to hit 45 degrees later tonight. Time to pull the fishing boat from the lake, take the window A/C unit out for the season, and start the Villages packing pile.

dewilson58 09-02-2022 05:44 AM

Bring the boat..................A lot of rain down here.

NoMo50 09-02-2022 06:09 AM

Oh boy. And just when I had gotten used to being able to make tee times!

DARFAP 09-02-2022 06:18 AM

Even though September is the best month of the year here on Cape Cod, my wife and I can not wait to get back to the Villages in three weeks.

Yep, Likewise!
I can't wait to get back to TV and make the year-rounders suffer the inconvenience of my presence.:D

Hope it comes with instructions never put one on before

I have a theory. I believe that Snowbirds are the primary cause of Love bugs. We get them when they arrive, and again when they leave. We'll have to commission a paid study :)

There is still time. Not all the executive courses are back up and running.

Gotta like it, they started renovating Riley Grove right when we headed north for the summer and it’s scheduled to reopen when we return. Kind of makes one feel important : )

While we full-timers don't enjoy the added traffic, the businesses love you. So, yes, you are important. Welcome home!

Just got back from five days in Minnesota to attend the state fair...end of August, cold and rainy. No better reminder of (one of many) reasons my wife and I love Florida.

Fair was kinda disappointing though; one of my favorite exhibits, the snake and lizard zoo, was closed. Seems as if they had a reptile dysfunction.

There's a pill for that.

I'd like to thank the Snowbirds for paying amenity fees and property taxes all year, but only using them part time.

You're welcome. We get the best of both worlds, and you get some peace, quiet, and lower bills in return. Having snowbirds is a win-win situation.

Your welcome, but don’t forget we also pay significantly more in property taxes with no homestead exemption as well as for trash pick up and base water and sewer usage while not there which helps keep your rates lower. The snowbirds are both the geese that lays the golden eggs as well as the gift that just keeps on giving.

I thought most snowbirds stayed down here for 6 months to qualify
for homestead exemption?

There is much more to it than that, the northern states won’t let you give up residency, and let you stop paying them income taxes, that easily. Our problem is that we still have a couple years to go to qualify for Medicare. Until then we have to buy our health insurance from the state exchange of our primary residency. If we declare Florida our primary state of residency, we would have to buy health insurance through the Florida exchange and would be out of network for all of our doctors up north, which we don’t want to do. Once we turn 65, the Medicare network is national and we can declare Florida residency, get the homestead exemption, and still be able to see our existing network of doctors. Not that I want to get any older, but we are very much looking forward to that aspect of turning 65.

I'm very grateful for those folks who are seasonal and snow birds. I'm sure the retailers and restaurants are grateful too. Your business keeps these businesses with their heads above water. Thank you very much. Hubby and I were once seasonal residents before moving here full time so I know what it is like to be scorned upon.

That's debatable, depending where they live. I know that snowbirds from a certain cold land where that goof Aaron Rogers plays take the exemption here.

😀

I don't even mind the additional traffic. From what I'm used to traffice wise, this is nothing here in The Villages, even in high season.

Three of our neighbors are snowbirds and I will be glad to have them back again, real nice people.

Frogs May be closer to a dirt nap than the younger snowbird’s. However not Frogs, snowbirds or snowflakes have expiration date stamped on the bottom of their foot. So dirt naps can occur no matter what their residence status is.

Perhaps we should start up an SLM movement and print up some t shirts and lawn signs.

I’m not following the lifespan thing, my remark was in response to the nasty perception of snowbirds stated by a poster which was in poor taste.

Bogie Shooter 09-02-2022 06:03 PM

I have 6 snowbird residences within eye site from my house, I look forward to their return.
Some posts on this thread are hurtful and really don’t make any damn sense.

billethkid 09-02-2022 06:32 PM

Everything is relative.
Today's slow season volume/population was the busy season volume/population not that many years ago....and again going forward and again going forward, etc.

Our street is half snowbirds and the block is way too quiet when they are gone

Finally someone gets it!!! :bigbow: I can't stand hearing the full timers complain when we come back. We GIVE YOU SPACE when we leave and keep paying amenities and taxes.

They already posted that they meant "sweatshirt"...

Please read the thread before you comment... :icon_wink:

Rwirish 09-03-2022 05:31 AM

Too hot here, snowbirds need to wait another 3 months before coming down.

Please.

WingedFoot78 09-03-2022 05:42 AM

Haven't we beat the sweater/sweatshirt/sweetheart thing to death long enough? Stop already!
