Queen Elizabeth

God bless Queen Elizabeth.
Her reign of 70 years was incredible.
Thankfully she died peacefully surrounded by her children.

Rainger99 09-08-2022 01:53 PM

It will be interesting to see the pomp and circumstance with a coronation of a new monarch. It will be wall to wall coverage - the networks have been planning this for decades!

The first one in my lifetime!

What to know about King Charles III, Britain's new monarch - CBS News

Will take a lot of time to get used to the title King Charles III.

Kenswing 09-08-2022 02:01 PM

She was an extraordinary woman during extraordinary times. It will be interesting to see if the Monarchy can survive without her.

King Charles is 73 years old. Rather old to be starting your first job!

This sets a record for the oldest British monarch to be crowned. The record had been held by William IV who was only 64 when he became King.

Hardly his first job! King Charles worked faithfully and full-time as Prince of Wales for decades, and it really was a LOT of work. Now he may well serve as king for another twenty years. Now Prince William will be working full-time as Prince of Wales. These are not easy jobs.

manaboutown 09-08-2022 03:19 PM

Her coronation was aired on black and white TV when I was ten years old. I remember my mother watching it and shushing me, telling me it was a once in a lifetime event and she (my mother) would never see another. She was correct. It was amazing to watch, even with early 1950s TV technology.

Queen Elizabeth II was an amazing woman whom I have always admired for her dignity, dedicated service to her country and indeed the world, incredible self control, and ability to face and successfully deal with more difficult challenges than I could even imagine encountering.

Over the centuries it always has.
She was a great lady, and a hard act to follow.
But follow we will.
We always do!

I always greatly admired the Queen. I know she has had her heart broken several times in the last few years but always handled everything with class and grace.

HeleneGB 09-09-2022 04:21 AM

I'm proud to be half British. May her memory forever be a blessing. An incredibly successful life.

What a crass, completely inappropriate, rude, obnoxious remark.

…………though not the first — seems to be an “Obvious” pattern.

Not true. She did a lot for the many Commonwealth countries, diplomacy & the U.K. She always tried to build bridges between people.

I would just point out that, it may appear that the British monarchy spends a lot of money, but their entire budget is about $120 million per year. By comparison, the White House budget for staffing, travel, and security is $1.4 billion. That is about 12 times as much.

:ohdear:

the united kingdom mourns the death of its queen as if a family member had died. The pomp and circumstance of the next ten days and the gathering of nearly all the world's leaders should surely demonstrate that it was never about time or money. The queen was the soul of the uk . She earned that by being a wartime princess, soldier and queen heroine to her people.

The Queen was an amazing woman...heck, an amazing person. She was thrust into a job she really did not want, but was born into. She served her nation with grace and distinction for longer than a lot of folks live. Whether you agree or disagree with the concept of Royalty, her dedication to her country and her countrymen is admirable.

airstreamingypsy 09-09-2022 07:34 AM

I was at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. After dinner, my boyfriend and I made our way back to the hotel, The Queen Elizabeth, and there were crowds of people just standing around in the lobby. Tom asked me what was going on, I said I don't know but they appear to be waiting for something. So, we waited with them, I swear not a minute later the elevator door opened, the crowd parted and Queen Elizabeth walked out!!!! OMG. When the crowd parted I found myself in the front row, and she passed within a foot of where I was standing, diamond tiara and all. It was quite a thrill.

Beautiful and loving to the people, she was what a queen should be like. I was born after she became queen, so 70 years is amazing. Charles on the other hand with Camilla, good luck!

Velvet 09-09-2022 08:22 AM

For me, a time of mourning. I will miss her.

She did lose her husband recently, she just recently went through Covid, she was 96 years old… perhaps it was time, her duties were done.

What are the odds that Charles will abdicate soon after the pomp and ceremony is over, in favor of Prince William? From what I've been reading Prince William has been being groomed by his grandmother and more or less has been calling the shots for the family for some time now.

Haven't been able to verify this...apparently some months back there was some scheduled ceremony or other and Prince Andrew (not one of the Royal's favorite sons esp. w/his connection to Jeffrey Epstein) wanted to attend. Prince William basically drew the line, saying that if Andrew attended, he wouldn't. Andrew didn't.

William is well-liked. Charles? Well...

LuvNH 09-09-2022 09:10 AM

Look around the world and see that countries with a monarchy are very stable. The countries that have overthrown their royals have declined into 3rd world powers. America is right now a viable country, but many people want to tear up our democracy.

plus the Monarchy brings in hundreds of millions of pounds each year from tourists who would otherwise not visit the UK or would not stay as long
