New and single in The Villages

Hi -
I’m literally days/weeks from purchasing in TV (The village of Richmond - Fingers crossed, as this village location is extremely popular with people seeking new builds). I’m a single 61 year old male, that will be all-about pickleball/bocce ball/water volleyball, and to a lesser-extent golf. I love having a late afternoon glass of wine at either Harvest or Blue Fin, grabbing a bite there, and then moving onto Brownwood square for entertainment. I’m pretty social, and have found it easy to meet people while eating at the bar, at the squares, having coffee, at the pools and rec centers, etc. I did two lifestyle visits this summer, and have been doing homework on TV daily for about five years, so I feel I have a real good grasp of TV. I’ll be coming back out for a few weeks in a few days. Here is my question — How can I quickly get paired up with a partner or team to engage in the activities I listed? Do I just contact the various clubs, and do they pair me up? I know I’ll eventually meet people who share my interests, but until I do, how do I “hit the ground running” and engage in these activities? Thanks for your replies, and so looking forward to becoming a TV resident and member of the community very soon!😀

Definitely check out the clubs and activities that interest you. Good place to find folks that share similar interests. Introduce yourself to the neighbors, you might find you "click" with someone close. And, be open to new activities and experiences.
Welcome!

There is 100k people here! Don’t rush into a relationship! Enjoy your freedom and live the dream before someone rips your heart out and steals your soul !

OMG! Sounds like somebody done somebody wrong, big time. 😨

Actually, I read the post that OP wanted to pair up for sports and other social activities, not necessarily a romantic pairing.
While I consider your advice basically sound, I admit it startled me a bit. Somebody needs a drink to calm him down. Me. One 18yo single malt, 2oz strait up.

Now, back to the hurricane coverage for relaxation. 😎

Go to City Fire...you sound like a full scale Romeo. Remember, bring a wad of bills. $50s on the outside, $1 in between. The green haired babes will be all over you.

"Green haired babes"? Sounds like an episode of Star Trek. 😐😈👧👴👹👽

npwalters 09-27-2022 02:04 PM

I'm an old married guy but for what it's worth...start by choosing a pickleball court near you and then go and play several times a week during open play -sunrise until 10. You should take the classes offered if you haven't already. Within a few weeks you will get to know a lot of the players. That can progress into joining one of the many groups that meet on certain days to play.

For male companionship consider playing softball. They play over 5,000 games a year here in several different leagues.

Your neighborhood will likely have a golf group of some sort.

Enjoy

vintageogauge 09-27-2022 02:15 PM

You didn't mention where you would be staying for a few weeks, if in The Villages you'll need a resident ID card to participate in organized groups, if outside of TV I don't think you could play on any of them. Once you get your card you can start signing up.

Michael 61 09-27-2022 02:33 PM

Just to clarify - I’m not looking for any romantic pairings - lol - just anyone to share my activities with 😀

MrFlorida 09-27-2022 03:29 PM

Hang out at City Fire, flash some big bucks and maybe you'll get lucky.

Stu from NYC 09-27-2022 04:20 PM

Look at a listing of clubs and join some that interest you. Due for most is very cheap.

The woman from the original series were all very hot. I was partial to Yvonne Craig aka batgirl. Her body was green.

Water Volleyball that Im familiar with is at Everglades Rec in Marsh Bend.

Basic (beginner) 1pm Monday, 3pm Thursday. 1pm Friday, 1pm Sunday

Best to arrive 30 minutes before start time to get a ticket for entry, bring your rec card.
New players will be assigned a court to be instructed on rules of play, etc.

After being acclimated, you can join the general population.

Also Ezell Rec is building up a pretty good program, not sure of their schedule.

I wonder if the rules are the same in the nearby Village of Coleman for joining "gen pop".

go to districtgov.org to the recreation tab for a list of all clubs in the villages.
also, pick up a recreation news paper and go to the sports pool pages for listing of all sports pools and their activities/days and times.

La lamy 09-28-2022 06:28 AM

Like others have said, morning open play pickleball is a great place to meet buddies if you're into that sport. Table tennis, beach pickleball, water volleyball, and many more are all good opportunities to meet people. Look at the activities schedule, pick and choose, bring your Village ID. Welcome and enjoy!

Janeyp 09-28-2022 06:36 AM

Join SITV - singleinthevillages.com

SITV is a very active group of sinles who play pickleball/bocce ball/water volleyball, golf, have socials, pop-up happy hours, etc. This not a dating site, just singles enjoying The Villages. It's very well organized and a great website with a calendar that shows the multiple activities. Participate in as few or many as you like. Only single residents can belong. Check it out!!

rsmurano 09-28-2022 07:26 AM

For pickleball, go to a rec center that matches your level of play, you will have more fun and have a good chance of getting included in like groups. Start with Everglades or Ezell, and if your level of play is more advanced, then there are other courts you can go to

That place sounds awful. I'm not surprised it's in the Northern section of the villages.

Are there any places like that further south? I want to be sure I don't accidentally end up in one of them on my next visit.

If I were you, my 1st priority above and beyond Villages partnering would be the elevation of my property...and how well it's going to weather this hurricane. Hopefully you have or will purchase a FEMA flood policy on top of your homeowners insurance. Then go have your fun.

Facebook pages for your Village

We have enjoyed meeting several new people on the Facebook page for our Village suggest you look for the Page for Richmond. Ours is Social Club not sure what yours would be but I am sure someone can advise you.

Check out www.pickleballcommunity.com. There are huge clubs for picklers. It's a great time with great people.

I read your post a little to fast and quickly thought you were recommending an 18 yo for this 61 yo man :a20: The single malt is a much better choice!

I just moved into St Johns, southern most section right near the Okahumpka Rec Center. My wife and I did the Lifestyle visit a year+ ago, then rented in Citrus Grove this past Feb-Apr. Decided this is where we wanted to be, and closed on the house in St. Johns in May. I was rated 3.5 by the Villages Pickleball Community. I'll be checking out the play at Water Lily (closest courts to where I'm at). If that doesn't work out for me, I'll be heading to Ezell Rec Center, where I played just about every day during our rental period. A great group of players - mostly intermediate to advanced players. Depending on your level, either of those 2 locations could work. Once the Richmond courts are opened, that'll obviously be a great option for you...and me as well (5 minute golf cart ride). I'm an avid golfer as well - @ a 15 handicap. Hope this helps, and if you want to hit a few pickleballs, or golf balls, let me know.

Join groups on Facebook- by searching for your interests- clubs are listed in the back of the Rec newspaper that comes out every Thursday-

One of the City Fire's is in Brownwood which is not considered North. Maybe when Eastport opens Brownwood will be called the Center Section.

Just don't wear fuchsia slippers and they'll leave you alone. :duck:

I have a very similar story. Closing on house Monday (as long as the airport opens so I can get there). Really, the only difference for me is I’m married but my wife still works so I am looking to get into these activities while she is home working.

I will be following this thread closely.

What of you're married, but identify as single? Asking for a friend. 😄
Just a joke. Don't get angry.

For the new to TV. I'm sure you have been warned already, but beware of all the door knockers/solicitors offering services, especially when they offer special price if you sign-up now. Also, beware of the Welcome wagon gimmick. It isn't a real thing, just solicitation/advertising trick to get inside.
Good luck and welcome to TV.

I would suggest you simply engage in all the activities you mentioned. Everything else will fall into place.

You are either very lucky or just never noticed them. Been her 9 years and were turning them away regularly. Slowed down as time went on, but we still have at least one a month or so. Even had a few that would come back once or twice just in case we changed our minds.

Good luck with Richmond! I’ve seen comments in FB groups and under YouTube videos from others who’ve been trying to get a Richmond home with no luck. Long waiting lists for each home release. Same with lots. We really want a veranda model in Richmond, but are now thinking we’ll have to adjust our expectations because it’s not looking good. 😕
