Wow - homes floating away in SW Florida, probably some lives lost and you’re worried about a few palm branches?

I drove up MMP along Morse and commented that it wasnt too bad. Yes, I drove over a bunch of down branches, but wow
You would be the first to complain about fees going up to pay for landscaping.

So you are bitching about some palms down after a storm. What will be the issue for you tomorrow. You could have just said that there were palms down and left it at that, no need to throw the Villages under the bus.

BTW, I drove through brownwood about 1:30 - they are picking up the debris, will be back to normal by dinner tonight

Stu from NYC 09-29-2022 01:58 PM

Neighbor across the street paid last week for two bucket trucks to remove lots and lots of dead branches.

Guess they are sorry they did not wait a week for nature to take em down.

No, that's us. Can't wait.

charlie1 09-29-2022 02:56 PM

Went to a VHA presentation by the Head of the District Landscaping where he discussed the maintenance of the landscaping in the Villages. He discussed trimming the Palm trees. Due to the number of Palm Trees (I don't remember the number but was well above 10,000 trees) and, the fact, to eliminate the palm fronds from falling, they would need to trim at least a couple of times per year at a cost of $50 -$100 per trimmed tree. He said they just do not have the budget for that. He did say that they are starting to trim select Palm trees in highly used areas.

frose 09-29-2022 03:10 PM

oh yea. house here going on market saturday .can't wait to get out.

frose 09-29-2022 03:11 PM

let's see what the clean up costs..

frose 09-29-2022 03:15 PM

all you miss the point.. If this had been done all along, instead of letting them go, they would not have to be cleaned up now. Lucky no one got hurt by falling debris. that's all no big deal..

frose 09-29-2022 03:20 PM

i just paid to have mine done also. I want the property and area to look great, not wait for an event to knock them down.. In fact I had my neighbors done also, they could not afford to do it but take a lot of pride in their home so it was an honor to have it done for them.

maynebonnie 09-29-2022 04:21 PM

Sounds like you are a great neighbour !

have you found a talk site in North Carolina that takes complaints so you can tell them how good they did things in the villages

You people really don’t get it. I’m not bitching about the villages just the people who don’t get it. NC doesn’t have a site like this thank god. Even these rednecks have more sense than some of the people on this site

Michael G. 09-29-2022 05:11 PM

TV planted the type of palms where the fronds die off on the bottom and eventually fall off in the wind.
When we first moved here, my wife complained and wondered why they don't trim that
dead stuff off, now we know way.
I guess it's cheaper to just pick the dead fronds up.

Sounds like it isn't the palms but the palm fronds that are down. I was fully expecting the streets to be littered with the fronds. I trust they will get it cleaned up but it will take time.

The "story" I heard is that Sharon Morse liked the look of the "beard" on those tall palm trees and she did not want them trimmed.

Given the maintenance on them very happy all my neighbors have them and we do not.

They do get very tall and a bucket truck is needed to maintain them. I'm also glad we don't have any on our property.

The point that you are complaining. You seem to have issues with the villages for whatever reason so it is good for all that you are leaving.

No, you're not getting the point... It is much easier (and much less expensive) to simply pick up palm fronds as part of the routine maintenance, than to drive around in a cherry picker and trim the dead fronds. They would STILL have many to clean up after a storm, since they are constantly growing new ones as the old ones die...

If you think they can actually trim every single dead palm frond from every single palm so that there will be none to clean up after a storm, you're dreaming...

It says that your join date is June of 21.
I’ve lived here 13 years. The Villages never trim palms on their property….that’s why so many of them have brown skirts hanging down. They know that mother nature will eventually clean things up.
If it’s storming enough that debris is flying….you need to stay home.
If you are going to stay in The Villages , learn to live with the critters and the vegetation. Otherwise move someplace that makes you happy

The two biddies seem to be paid by the complaint and they have already reached their complaint quota of 471, so they are off for the year and finding new ways to be obnoxious for the future.

Guess the request to "Please stay off the roads" yesterday was just for someone else??

bowlingal 09-30-2022 05:24 AM

the Villages does an awesome job of cleaning up after a storm. Just be patient people it will get done. You obviously were not here during hurricane Irma. Is your house still standing? Is your property under water? do you have your car or cart running? Did you lose electric? Just turn on the news and see what other people south of us are going through. Jeez ...you have some nerve complaining

Place is great. The people, not so much. I look at it as old people trying to get to heaven through a golf course.

I was taking a neighbor to urgent care on 466a. Sorry for trying to help someone

frose 09-30-2022 05:37 AM

I was not complaining, just making an observation. You people reall need to lighten up.

WingedFoot78 09-30-2022 05:43 AM

There are only two biddies?

The Palms are like that because one of the ruling Morse girls likes the look of the hanging dead palm fronds
