Lanai Flooring

Looking for flooring ideas for a large lanai. Have considered tile but looking for ideas of what others have done and satisfaction with contractor. Currently screened but enclosing with glass.

GpaVader 10-10-2022 11:32 AM

We haven't done it yet, but our landscaper suggested using pavers. We just haven't decided if we are going to enclose ours or not since that may impact our decision on if we want to level the floor or leave it with a sloop to drain any rain or water...

dewilson58 10-10-2022 01:58 PM

go to Great Lakes Carpet & Tile in Wildwood.

We did porcelain tile, we bought it from Home Depot and found a tile contractor online

If your lanai is not completely enclosed make sure you get a NON-SLIP finish on whatever you decide to use. Lanais are typically sloped away from the house for water drainage, ours is 2 inches of slope over 13 feet. Be sure you consider this.

vintageogauge 10-10-2022 04:29 PM

We had The Floor Shoppe install porcelain tile when we bought our home 5-1/2 years ago and have had no problem with it. Before we enclosed it rain came in plenty of times and no slipping at all.. If you use pavers you'll be tracking paver dust into your home with porcelain there is no residue or dust.

richs631 10-11-2022 04:52 AM

Our lanai is enclosed in glass. We were in tha same boat so we decided to just have a berber carpet installed as a temporary fix (easy to take up later) until we could make up our mind. That was 2 years ago and one of the best decisions we made. We currently have “indoor” furniture in the room and it works great

Lanai flooring

Just had Roberto’s install porcelain tile in our enclosed lanai. It resembles plank flooring. Looks terrific! It really completed the project.

Loug56 10-11-2022 06:12 AM

We used Liquid Floors for our garage and Lanai and are very happy with results. Little $$ but great job.

They put the tiles in my entire house (before I bought it) and a lot of tiles aren't even. I assume they did not use the wedges that ensure each tile is even with the next. It mostly affects moving furniture (like chairs). Rather annoying, but it's not worth ripping up the entire house.

rsmurano 10-11-2022 06:29 AM

We enclosed our lanai with glass this year. If you are going to spend this kind of money on enclosing it, do it right to get your money out out of it and have it look like the rest of your house:
1) We used double pane windows
2) We put electricity/cable/Ethernet in more places for the tv/stereo/desk
3) raised the floor to match the floor height of the house
4) put the same tile down as the house
5) use quality shades if needed to block the sun to keep the room comfortable

Knock down with Tropicrete Acrylic Deck coating, . Easy to clean, looks great. We have screens and Shade Brothers screens on the outside. 😎

Glowfromminnesota 10-11-2022 06:39 AM

We have tile. No problems. Feels like another room and not a lanai. We spend most of our time in that room.

Waterproof LVP

Lowes sells Vinyl planking that look fantastic and is also waterproof. I haven’t installed it yet, but plan on during my Nov. return.

I like the idea of it’s easy install and it’ waterproof design.

"waterproof", not weather-proof.

read fine-print.................does not like direct sunlight or exposure to weather.

If your looking for a contractor DO NOT USE “VIP Home Improvement” as they are not licensed or insured - let alone did the most horrible job on our home - plus they are scammers!

Chattahoochie River Rock -- great!

TNLAKEPANDA 10-11-2022 07:41 AM

We had a house with brick pavers. They looked nice and could get wet but they were not easy to clean. Our house now the Lani is
Enclosed and we have vinyl plank flooring. It is durable and easy to clean. Better then tile in my opinion.

We had our lanai painted and sealed/anti slipped. Outdoor carpets are in furniture areas for comfort and additional traction. When we add the birdcage, I will paint and use carpets there too. Easier cleaning, simple maintenance, and carpets can be changed.
After a rain, if carpets are wet, I vac them with my Bissell Crosswave. Moisture is removed and they dry very fast and clean.

Chattahoochee River Rock

We have Chattahoochee River Rock in both the lanai & outside uncovered patio & love it. Very durable & no worries about any type of weather. We did not have it installed as it was here when we purchased the house. Have had it cleaned & sealed once by Matt Allums, (352) 326-0622. You are welcome to come see ours if you like.

Smalley 10-11-2022 12:28 PM

It sounds like you made good decisions and the lanai will really function as another room. Would you mind sharing a ballpark price. We are very soon becoming full-time Villager. Lots of projects to do!

What about air and heat?

golfnut 10-12-2022 01:19 PM

We used The Floor Shoppe on 301, we put in luxury vinyl plank throughout the house and the lanai, it looks like any other room in the house and gets a lot of use.

4daughters 10-12-2022 01:52 PM

Thanks for the input. Where did you get your carpet?

4daughters 10-12-2022 01:58 PM

Welcome. We are having All Seasons Rooms install our glass on our 13' x 28' lanai. We had them enclose the lanai on our previous home and were very happy with the product and installation so having them do this one too. We just do single pane because we dont try and make it an air conditioned space. We dont get direct sunlight in it so it will stay a little cooler. We have 2 ceiling fans for the summer and a tower heater for cooler weather. The cost to enclose our lanai is approx. $12k.

Lanai flooring

I have a patio villa and put in river rock as flooring, it looks beautiful and always looks new. I would highly recommend placing in this over tile. It is very durable. The company is Allums Chattahoochee Riverrock. 407-633-9278.

plimit56 10-16-2022 09:45 AM

Recommendations for a company to paint our Lanai floor. We enclosed and now need the floor painted.

I was gonna suggest that, but I couldn't spell Chattahoochee, just river rock......LOL:shrug:

Garywt 10-17-2022 10:45 PM

We had it painted at the same time we were having the garage floor painted. We then bought a nicer indoor/outdoor rug in it.

I have an enclosed lanai with glass windows. I installed vinyl planking and it was easy and it looks great. I was concerned with the possibility of water leaking in, but it has not happened in the years since I installed the vinyl planking. Very easy to take back up if I ever decide to raise the floor level with the rest of the house. I purchased my planking from Lowes at a large discount and have been really impressed with the product. If I had to do it over again, I would have the rest of the house done in vinyl planking instead of wood laminate.

Hello we are thinking of putting porcelain plans in our lanai. Can you please tell me the name of your contractor? We're you happy with his work? Was he expensive?
Thanks Ray

MrChip72 01-25-2023 11:47 PM

i'm just going to do DIY luxury vinyl plank on my lanai this year. Will feel more like an indoor space this way and it won't break the bank. I've done a lot of research online and there's plenty of people using LVP on outdoor covered patios, even some with much more temperature fluctuations and rain than we get here. I have installed LVP before and it's very straighforward if you're reasonably confident with DIY stuff.
