Marathon Stations…..

….at Pinellas and Lake Deaton being bought out by Circle K; changeover starts next week.

Stu from NYC 10-11-2022 10:05 AM

We do like circle k coffee

Babubhat 10-11-2022 11:58 AM

Yuk. Not top tier gas. That matters

Kenswing 10-11-2022 12:00 PM

Hopefully they'll do a better job of ensuring that there aren't any credit card skimmers attached to their pumps.

It is interesting. Seems someone, companies, are playing MONOPOLY with gas stations.
I preferred SHELL they have been converted to Circle K. I've done some reading.

As I understand it regular gasoline all comes from the same pipeline. You cannot if you wanted to say no Russian, no Venezuelan or one gallon Russian to ten gallons domestic
What makes gasoline different is the detergent package added before the fuel is delivered to the station. Top tier group. Actually the company pays a fee to be able to put that on their pump. It is all hidden. You have no way to test. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Circle K is BP fuel. I've also read the fuel at 711 is Citco owned by Venezuela. Perhaps, the only valid information is who owns what-THIS WEEK

7/11 stopped buying gas from Citgo in 2006. Easily verified.

kcrazorbackfan 10-11-2022 06:00 PM

Does anyone know if they offer Rec gas?

patfla06 10-11-2022 07:50 PM

I never go to Circle K. Yuck.

Babubhat 10-11-2022 08:05 PM

We get Rec gas at WaWa

Businesses on Villages properties pay fairly high rent. Clark’s was probably outbid on renewing their contract.

Speedway, BP, Circle K are not currently Top Tier fuels!

Prepaid cards

Will all prepaid marathon cards be honored at circle k?

RICH1 10-12-2022 07:11 AM

Those “ crack pipes” don’t sell themselves.. nothing good happens after midnight, just ask a Circle K employee…

Just was on the Circle K site. I don't see anywhere that their gas is "Top Tier". They talk alot about the quality, but nothing Top Tier.

Also, their loyalty program requires that you link your bank account to their debit card to get the per gallon discount. I preferred the Marathon approach of just signing up, swiping their card, and then paying with my credit card.

7/11 doesn't advertise as Top Tier either, best I can see, but they don't require you to link your bank account to their loyalty card.

Once 7/11 opens down here in Magnolia Plaza, guess that is what I will be using. As it is golf cart accessible, pretty sure they will have rec gas. The new one near Shooters World in Brownwood does.

It is NOT necessary to link your bank account to the Circle K card. Here's what we do:
We go into the store and put $100 cash onto the Circle K card. That gets us the discount when we buy gas, and our bank info is secure. Also limits any loss from skimmers; the most they can get is the balance on the card.

Both of the Marathon stations, at Pinellas and at Lake Deaton, sell rec gas.
The Circle K on 466A also sells rec gas.

jpvillager 10-12-2022 10:17 AM

Careful! Sunoco Ultra 94 is certified as a TOP TIER fuel but regular use to be but is no longer. The top tier website is not up to date.

Resistance is futile

retiredguy123 10-12-2022 11:21 AM

Personally, I won't be going out of my way to find Top Tier gasoline.

laboutj 10-12-2022 11:49 AM

Top tier gas makes no difference. My car is supposed to take 93 octane and I've been putting in 87 for 160,000 miles. And not from any of the 'top tier' stations. Still runs great, passed inspection easily back when I had to get it done, and my mechanic said everything looks great.

Larchap49 10-12-2022 12:11 PM

Not true. According to the manager at the Pinellas Marathon, and the Top Tier website, Marathon gas is Top Tier. They had the Top Tier signs on top of the pumps until the hurricane blew them away.

Stu from NYC 10-12-2022 01:07 PM

My cars like running on BJ and Sams gas. My wallet agrees

Jus saying it does not make it true.

:what:

tuccillo 10-12-2022 01:14 PM

Is premium gas (91-93 octane) required or recommended for your car? Big difference. If it is recommended, then you can run on regular (87 octane and realize less power) as the engine control computer will adjust the timing (from data from knock sensors) to account for the lower octane and all will be well. If it is required, then it is possible that preignition (engine knock) will occur and possibly damage the engine.

TOP TIER™ Gasoline Brands

Babubhat 10-12-2022 02:21 PM

Top tier matters. Nothing to debate. I know the engineer that tested all the brands for a major oil company. Like Fram, you can pay me now or pay me later. No reason to cheap out for a few pennies per gallon.

I agree. But, the "top tier" designation would be more effective if it did not require a paid license to get it. Apparently, there are some gasolines that exceed the top tier quality, but, because they don't apply for and obtain the top tier license, they are not allowed to claim that they are top tier. Also, there are some small gasoline stations that buy their gas from various sources, so they may not always sell top tier brands. You shouldn't need to pay for the right to advertise that your gas is "top tier" because it doesn't always guarantee a higher quality product.

TNLAKEPANDA 10-13-2022 08:02 AM

Sunoco an Shell for Premium fuel are best. Both our vehicles require Premium… yuck.

The one on 466A (by Starbucks) does. I think they all do. Not sure about ones that are switching brands but they likely eventually will.

Babubhat 10-17-2022 09:58 AM

Circle K does not want to pay the royalty to big oil in many of their stations. Lower price a few Pennie’s. They pull you in to buy coffee and soda with huge profit margins.
