New Village / Mapping Updates
Neither Google nor Apple maps currently recognize the streets in the Village of Richmond. Any idea how long it typically takes the technology to catch up with reality?
|
If you can get the maps from Sumter County, you might be able to send to Google, I have never tried to do this but it might work. Or contact google about the problem and see what they suggest.

I have found the Villages free app (green background large white V) works very well for both car and golf cart, however does not work for visitors or deliveries.
|
It took about 3 months in Hawkins for Google maps to show the streets. I added my address with the "contribute" tab on the android app and that helped with deliveries. Waze did show the streets much earlier.
On a side note, Google maps in satellite mode still does not show any houses but it does show the early road work. Apple maps is even further behind as they just show fields and marshes with roads overlaid. |
Waze will have the streets long before Google and Apple. Go figure, since Waze is owned by Google. In Chitty Chatty, Waze was up and running about 8 months before Google.

Took a few months for St. John's to show up on the map. House was finished in early May...saw we were in google maps in August. Some use Waze but at round 10 miles away better to use google. I got lost one night when Waze tried to cut me through a wooded area that couldn't be cut through and I ended up in a dead end. Was scary for a bit, but I backtracked and found my way out.
So after that I used google maps and aimed it at UHF Health on Meggison and 44 as a home base, which is right in the St. John's/Richmond area. Never got lost after that. |

The VillagesGPS that you pay a few bucks for have more options than the free app. It does take a few weeks for the upload of new streets though.

FWIW the link provided in response #3 really works. I did that with my location and with a few weeks it was on it. I also found that the Apple maps one took a little while but it wasn't much longer before it showed up..

I dropped a pin at my front door and reported it as my address to Google. They placed it close and I moved it. If your village has a Facebook group, make a post and ask all to report their location to Google.

You can add the streets yourself in Waze. When we first bought our home in Phillips Villas, none of our streets were on any of the mapping apps. I drove around our neighborhood and added all of the streets. You can even add house addresses and identify where a specific address is located.

The free Village's app has the streets first. It can take up to 6-12 months for Google or the Apple maps to catch up. Wayze is guicker. Don't blame the county or TV they send them the data but they need to actually drive the streets before they will publish them on line.

Still waiting for Chitty Chatty to get on the main GPS apps. WAZE is the only one that has it.

In 2010 I was arriving at our brand new Home in Pennacamp 18 hour drive, car full of stuff, at 1800. GPS stopped working just south of LSL.
Women runs into street in front of my car, screaming her husband fell was in pain, had no phone to call anyone. I pushed blue Onstar button. Told them I was in new area. She not only could pinpoint my exact location, the rescue pulled up behind me @2 minutes and 41 seconds. Onstar stated exact time response, I knew it was under 3 minutes, but not as accurate as her info. So address can be updated quickly as new neighborhoods are built, its just not done in a timely manor |
Just to reiterate - you can add what you need TODAY to Waze, and it will show up within days on the general map.
