Atick Vacuums - review please

I am thinking of buying a stick vacuum to replace a very heavy vacuum I am now using. If you have a stick I would appreciate hearing your views on them.

retiredguy123 10-24-2022 10:56 AM

I have a Dyson cordless. Expensive, but very convenient, lightweight, and easy to use. It hangs on the wall and is always ready to use, with no cord to get in the way.

asianthree 10-24-2022 12:27 PM

My dyson stick was left up north.. so bought a shark stick.. it does an ok job.. but I know the carpet is just not getting a good vacuuming with the stick

Just got a Dyson (battery) with the extra tools. It does what the manufacture says it will. The head is very flexible and a lot smaller than what you are using which means it is a lot easier to vacuum around furniture. I have a head for rugs and one for bare floors. Either would work on the other type of floor. Can remove tube and use as a hand held vacuum and vacuum where I could not before. On regular speed I can do about 1800 sq ft (less due to furniture etc.) of cleaning on a charge. On high speed you do get a big increase in vacuum power but probably 10 or 15 minutes of use. This is ok as the need for high speed should be minimal. The suction and ability to pick up stuff is very good. Also very nice not having a cord. You could grab it and use it for a quick clean up a lot easier than your old machine. We do not have any pets.

The sticks are great on solid surfaces (hardwoods, tile, linoleum, etc). I’d recommend getting one with a light on the end (floor brush section ). It does wonders in helping you spot dirt. Especially helpful if you have pets that shed. Battery vs corded and no bag (but a dust cup/collector) would be 2 other options I’d recommend.

Dyson is the way to go!

Love our Black & Decker stick vacuum. Hangs on the wall, always ready to go, 3 speed, stands up by itself without needing to lean it against something, powerful too, and has 2 led lights. It will run a sufficient amount of time on a full charge.

CosmicTrucker 10-25-2022 05:15 AM

I currently use a Shark robo self emptying unit and a Dyson stick plus a Shark upright. The Robo and stick are good for light general cleaning, but if you have any pets and some carpets then you’ll have to use a good upright model to get the job done well.

Two months ago we purchased a Dyson Absolute from Dyson direct...free shipping and best price found. Did this based on my two son's recommendation...both son's are techies and know thier stuff. We've been very happy with the purchase. It comes with all the attachments you'll need...bare floor, carpet, upholstery bruses, extentions, etc. We have one large area rug and the rest hard floors. Also have an air purifier that we run the brush attachement over the outside pre-filter. The motor is very powerful. The battery has two settings, regular and max. On max it lasts over 20 minutes...enough time to do all the sweeping we want in one session, but we don't need to use max all the time. It does great on all our surfaces. A bit more expensive than others, but well worth the money.

rothbear 10-25-2022 05:38 AM

Dyson, definitely! Used a Dyson upright, still going strong for over 20 year. Bought a Dyson V6 stick probably close to 10 years ago and 99% of the time that's the one that we grab. Hubby refuses to use the upright. Came with a bunch of attachments, including the "fluffy" head which is great on wood, tile and vinyl. Small "powered" head great for steps. Hangs on the wall. I would like to get the latest, more powerful, one, but can't justify since this one still working fine. Son-in-law does all the cleaning and on our experience they asked for one on their wedding gift list. They also upgraded from the Dyson ball my daughter had (2 cats, one long haired), which also still works. Yes they are expensive but worth it.

I bought a Shark stick vacuum as the Dyson were more money than I could justify. It definitely does the job well. We have carpet in the bedrooms and vinyl everywhere else. I chose a corded model because it has more power.

The one negative is we have pets that shed and the cup that collects the hair/dirt is not big so I sometimes have to empty mid way through.

I have a Eureka RapidClean Pro. I use it frequently on tile, lvp and carpet for light cleaning. It works great. Still need to use a regular vacuum for deep cleaning on carpet.

Unlike the rest of the world, we used to have a Eureka hand held vacuum that we used on ledges in our old house. It was fantastic, tons of suction, etc. Still have it these 14 years later. We wanted ease of use, multi-use, and same strength and logevity. We got the Eureka stick that does everything from blinds, drapes, floors, rugs, bulk stuff. it can be a full vac or can be broken down into something smaller for multiple uses. Our cleaning person loves it better than hers, so I let her use it here.

Couldn't be happier - and the best part it was less expensive than Dyson and the rest.

Yes - we have one and it works nicely. Thanks for asking.

I love my afoddon one. Inexpensive, but works great on hard floors one low pile carpet!

before you buy ensure that battery and roller brush are in stock and available. You cannot get a hoover roller brush anywhere. Amazon rep assured me they had a replacement that would fit. It didn't.

My wife bought a Shark system several years ago and has "loved" it ever since. We have two dogs to help keep the place in need of cleaning. It actually does exceedingly well at that. She even let's me "drive" it on occasions. Not as much fun as my Harley, but I guess to each their own.

We use a Bissell Air Ram and love it. https://www.bissell.com/airram-cordl...cuum-1984.html

We’ve had it for 5 years and use it on tile and laminate floors and it does a great job. A charge lasts 45 minutes.

You didn't ask, but have you considered a robot? We have one in each of our homes and absolutely love them. I personally would not recommend them for carpeted floors, but if you have hard floors, they are fantastic and save you hours of manual labor.

Stick vacuum

The Simplicity S655 cordless vacuum was recommended to us. We love it. Bought one for both houses and one for our son. Has a hand held option and runs about $250.00 on Amazon.

daniel200 10-25-2022 08:18 AM

My first Dyson stick failed within 30 days. Had it replaced. The second works but the battery went crap after a few months. It will only run 3 or 4 minutes after charging. I would not touch another Dyson

I also have had an irobot i7+ for 18 months and am very satisfied

maistocars 10-25-2022 08:34 AM

Get the LG from Costco - best in class! Have one in both my houses.

Dyson is the best quality vacuum for the $$$. We have the upright for quick jobs and the regular Dyson vac for doing the entire house thoroughly. The problem with the upright is the battery charge. I met a sales guy at Costco once who was demonstrating the Dyson's. His Dad had a Shark and swore by it. They did some dirt testing at home and Dyson performed superiorly over the Shark. Their Customer Service is also excellent.

We have a "whole house vacuum ". The hose retracts into the wall and the vacuum motor canister unit is in the garage. The amount of suction it produces is amazing. If you have pets, it's a must. We had it installed when we moved in. Had it in my last house too. Will never own a home without one again.

Stick vacuum

I have an older Dyson and my battery died—meaning it wouldn’t charge—after about 18 months or maybe it was two years. But anyway it was out of warranty. I purchased another battery and it holds a charge for about 15 minutes. A friend has a new Dyson and It works great! The battery lasts much longer, and it’s more expensive. I really love using it without the cords. I also don’t run into my toes as much. If you can afford one, go for it!

What I don’t like is emptying the dirt catcher. Cleaning it is even worse. I like my old vac that had disposable bags….

1. Check the ratings in Consumer Reports for unbiased advice. This applies to all appliances.

2. Buy one lighter in weight, yet has a high rating. Some of the sticks weigh over 11 pounds and you will really notice that weight.

3. Spend the money for an extra battery. It's very frustrating when the battery runs out in the middle of a job and you don't have a spare.

4. Look for a "factory reconditioned" model on eBay or Amazon and save a lot of money. Many of these are returned yet operate perfectly. They are repackaged and resold. Sometimes you will get a new battery. Amazon has great deals on these. If you don't like it, returns with Amazon are very easy.

5. We bought a Tineco and are satisfied both with its performance and ease of use.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I am already wrestling with a whole house vacuum and that is why I would like a stick. The whole house is rather like wrestling with a snake, not that I have ever done so, but it wears me out and it is too heavy to drag around.

I have had some greagt information from posters and I much appreciate everyone taking the time to help.

Would that be a stick-shift vacuum versus an automatic shift............sorry, truly sorry, I could NOT resist that one.

try MooSoo stick vac

I bought a MooSoo stick vac on Amazon abut 3 years ago and love it to death. Much cheaper than Dyson, Shark etc and customer ratings on Amazon rate it higher than many big , expensive name brands. Several of my family/friends have also bought MooSoo and also love it. Light weight, cordless, lights underneath so you can see things, fits under almost everything, swivels to fit everywhere, charge on low speed lasts about 25-30 min, on higher speed lasts 20 min. Does good job on edges and even picks up cat litter and surface cat hair. Detachable parts make it simple to convert to handheld to clean car and between crevices easily and gets into window, sider door runners easily when take off attachments and just use hose. Only negative is smaller dirt cup so have to empty during vacuuming if lots of pet hair, but only takes a minute to empty and shows me just how well it works as getting up so much pet hair! Several different MooSoo models with different suction power, but I think highest power now is 30 KPA such as this link shows.
Mine is only 18 KA and has plenty of suction, so 30 is even better! Read customer reviews!! You will probably still want to use an upright, full size vac now and then to do more deep cleaning, but this stick vac is super for every day and frequent use! Good Luck!!

We have had a Dyson 7 Absolute for 6 years now. We love the 2 interchangeable heads. A year ago, we put a new battery for $30.00. Gets around our 2000 sq ft home just fine. Love it!

This is an update to my request for information on stick vacuum cleaners.

I purchased the NISE from Amazon, it arrived today and I could not wait to try it. It is amazing. It cost $55 which is less than a meal out, and it works just great. We have a large very hairy dog and it even picks up pet hair. Great buy, could not be happier. Highly recommend it for anyone needing a good vacuum for small places.

I like my Miele canister. Long cord, quiet and has attachments.

Buckeyephan 11-24-2022 08:58 AM

Interesting question. Recently got my late MIL’s Dyson stick that had been sitting in her garage. It won’t charge so I went to Sharkey’s to have the battery replaced. Was told it was junk and can’t be repaired but they could sell me a Simplicity. He said all Dysons are terrible with poor customer service. Friend told me the Dyson people were wonderful and customer service walked her through the replacement. I will try that. In addition, decided to check out the sewing machines next door. After walking around the store for many minutes while being ignored by the man and woman at the cash register, I left. The woman followed me to my car and accused me of stealing fabric. What a disgusting way to run a business.
