Blocking or Ignoring another user

Is it possible to block or ignore another user on this site? If so, how is that done? Thanks.

Michael 61 10-25-2022 12:03 PM

Reason, I’m asking is there is someone who posts a zillion times a day that I would just like to be able to ignore, rather than having to sort out all their countless posts.

Click on the user's name, click on public profile, click on user lists, and select "add user to ignore list".

Should'a made this a poll, I have my guesses as to whom you refer.

I do wonder. They have and enforce rules. Does anyone read every post? MY VIEW, too many people only associate with people who agree with them.
You learn far more from people with a different view. Too many people are talking to themselves. Teasing a bit, We all do that from time to time. You LOOSE one or the other side of the argument.

I have several dozen people on my Ignore setting but I will admit I look at their posts if I need to do so.

You can ignore them, but if someone quotes them it shows their post. I ignore for content. As for quantity, I have to ask myself why some people live here with so many things to do, but spend most of their day on a message board. It's startling to look at the statistics and see how many times a day some people post and how many hours they must spend doing it. Kind of sad.

I don’t think many people are hanging around the house all day posting ,we all have some moments all day that we might look for a moment and send a message , that’s what I phones are for. I often wonder when I see people asking how to block posts on here , what’s the matter with simply not looking or reading them , are so many people lacking so little self discipline that they need a automatic program to do it

I agree with your post - and thoroughly enjoy reading and learning from posts from people with opposing views - my OP though is for a person who posts WAY too many posts, which become very annoying when trying to sort through the other posts within a thread.

OK, I’m sure it’s me, but where do I click “Public profile” once I have clicked on the users name, and am then taken to their profile? I’ve looked and don’t see anything labeled “public profile”? Thanks for your help.

So, I just clicked on your name. Then, clicked on "view public profile" then "user lists" (at the top) and then there is a selection called "add to ignore list".

Note that I am using the old version of TOTV.

Left click on the user's name at the top of one of his/her posts.
In the pull-down menu that appears, click on "View Public Profile."
When that appears, at the very top it will give options: Send Message, User Lists, User Note.
Left click on User Lists, and the third option down is Add to Ignore List. Click on that.

Scrolling on by people of whom you do not want to read their posts is very easy

I truly wonder about people in general. I think you can learn from most people.
Sometimes the lesson, an important one, is I do not want to be like that.

There are a few people who do hang around the house all day, it would seem, posting comments that we could very well live without. There is one woman who has thousands of comments under her belt, so what does THAT tell you???

I had to laugh at your post, because I had the same thought this morning and my plan was to search for the "blocking" button, later today.

Everyone here knows the folks who sit in front of their computer and post gratuitous nonsense 24 hours a day. Many of them have already commented on this thread. :BigApplause:

Sadly I think there are many people who are bored to death and live through their computers on this chat line.

It’s geriatric day care. Then there are the serial posters who post such eloquent verses such as “Very true” or “I Wonder…..”. Those are the post count cowboys. lol. Just look at each thread and it’s the same people that post the most. And usually by a wide margin.

I often wonder just why people get their undies in a bundle over what is posted, here and wherever. We're not interacting with people, but with words on a screen. If those words happen to contradict something that we believe (or, all too often, a certain prejudice that we are married to)...so what? ignore it or answer it. But giving in to an emotion reaction is merely legitimizing it. And why do that? Is it that important that other people need to believe precisely what you believe?

All too often people are not looking for information, but VALIDATION. And when that isn't forthcoming...well, that's when those undies start bundling up.

So far three posters who are on my ignore list have already responded to this thread, which is pretty typical on a two page thread..

Two Bills 10-28-2022 11:31 AM

It would be nice if someone replied to the poster of this thread! :icon_wink:

Everyone has blocked the poster.

laboutj 10-28-2022 01:25 PM

Am I the only one who has blocked the poster with the same "What did they say when you called them?" answer that is given each time?

How do you know, if they're on your "ignore" ?

Nevermind, now I know it shows up as an "ignored poster". Next I'll learn how to delete a post, like I just tried to do with this one.

Actually, you can't delete a post yourself. But, you can delete all characters except three. Some people use "///" to indicate a post that they wanted to delete.

RICH1 10-29-2022 06:43 AM

If I was Paranoid , I would think the OP is trolling me!
