Marathon Gas

We always try to buy gas cards when Publix offers them at a discount with purchase. It appears that the local Marathon stations have all become Circle K now and we’re left with $300 in gas cards that are unusable locally. Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat or has any suggestions.

Bogie Shooter 10-27-2022 03:49 PM

Any relatives/friends have those stations?

DARFAP 10-27-2022 04:29 PM

The stations at Pinellas and near Rohan still appear to be Marathons.

As of last week Lake Deaton was displaying Circle K. I also tried a Marathon gas card there but it didn’t recognize it. The internet shows a Marathon station opposite Rural King on 27/441 and another one on SR 44 near I-75.

Babubhat 10-27-2022 04:38 PM

Marathon has also devalued the cents per gallon off to almost nothing. Likely need to use on interstate exits. Check gas Buddy.com

EviesGP 10-27-2022 08:17 PM

Pinellas is/has been displaying the Circle K sign for about a week now, possibly more? I can't get it to take my credit card, so I went to 7-11 for Non-Ethanol Gas.

Marathon gas cards

Publix will exchange unused gift cards with receipt for circle K cards or any other place you’d like

billlaur 10-27-2022 09:07 PM

marathon station at rt 301 and42 You can use them there///

Jhnidy 10-28-2022 04:18 AM

I have been told that publix does not deal in circle K cards.

Suzay 10-28-2022 04:59 AM

Publix will Not give money back on in used cards ,receipt or no receipt .

Fake news 😉

Circle K created a monopoly. Take over Shell and Marathon. I was getting 10 or 15 cents off per gallon weekly at Shell stations through my T-mobile phone account, but CIRCLE K bought them up. Now, the nearest Shell station I found is in Leesburg!

Babubhat 10-28-2022 06:11 AM

Circle K and 7-11 saturating the market. Convenience stores want to get you inside. That is the profit center.

Never heard of refunds on gift cards. Rampant fraud already exists. Treated as cash by vendor.

You can try to sell to Raise or cash card but it’s at a discount

There is a Marathon station on the corner of 301 and 42. We had the same problem.

I guess you mean Shell? All the Marathons are still Marathon but some Shell are Circle K.

Sadly that’s not true. Both the Marathons at Rohan and Pinellas are now Circle K.

There's still a Marathon at 44/Morse Blvd by the Publix.

villager7591 10-28-2022 07:50 AM

That station change to Circle K about a week ago.

Drdean 10-28-2022 07:51 AM

Exchange Marathon for Circle K or other gas card

I had six $50 unused Marathon gift cards from Publix. I also saved the receipts. The Publix at Lake Deaton exchanged the UNUSED MARATHON CARDS WITH RECEIPT for Circle K cards without an issue.

I could have received Wawa or any other branded gas cards they sell, but I chose Circle K

This happened Wednesday October 26th. Publix staff very helpful.

There is a Marathon in Leesburg on Citrus Blvd. Went there yesterday.

Rheinl271 10-28-2022 08:11 AM

Sign up for the Circle K Easy Pay card for 10 cents a gallon discount.

Ral51Bjl 10-28-2022 08:24 AM

These quotes are so true.

bluecenturian 10-28-2022 08:27 AM

There are marathons at 44 and I75 and 42 and 301 which are not circle K’s

dbaird 10-28-2022 09:50 AM

Yes, we are also stuck Pu $300 in gas cards that we got at Publix. We are at the age where we travel by air instead driving long distances.

The Marathon at Lake Deaton Plaza is now a Circle K. They told my husband that Marathon in Leesburg would honor the card. Not sure where it is.

There are some Marathon's left. Not many. Maybe if you go to marathon.com and see if they have a locator. You can also look up marathon stations on the gas buddy app. It says there are 4 nearby. One in The Villages, Wildwood, Summerfield and Ocklawaha. Good Luck.

Stopped at Marathon on 27/441 opposite Rural King. Not a car in sight. Went inside to make sure they were still open. They were open and the Marathon cards worked fine. My guess is that section is Leesburg just before Fruitland Park.

I just did the same today, October 28 at Lake Deaton Publix. They checked each card. Only unused cards could be exchanged.

OhioBuckeye 10-29-2022 09:11 AM

Credit Cards to me are getting scary. It’s getting to the point that cash won’t be excepted one of these days & the governments will just help themselves to your credit card. Times are changing!

bjansson 10-29-2022 10:29 AM

Shouldn't those cards be grandfathered in?

When there is a corporate buyout they have to take into consideration cards like these might still exist. If the cards are still valid and have not expired I would demand that they be accepted at the Circle K stores.

Silly.

If they purchased assets, not stock, it's not their problem.

Babubhat 10-29-2022 01:59 PM

Just now, south of Tampa I saw multiple Marathon station with banners saying circle K coming soon. Something bigger is happening

why is that? i see many Cir-K locations that used to carry Shell, but now the CirK brand has taken over almost everywhere. the closest Shell is now miles away, & i've had to switch over to Chevron in Leesburg/44. is it really corporate takeover?

Babubhat 10-29-2022 03:02 PM

These are franchises. Unbranded gas can be sold at a lower price. gets you in for chips and soda at huge markups.

7-Eleven and Circle K are 1 and 2 in size. Only will get bigger,

Add Techron to tank occasionally

I’ll look into that option. When I asked customer service at the Lake Deaton Publix I was told Publix had no remedy for Clark’s (the owner of the two former Marathon locations that are now Circle K) switching brands. I also asked at the Lake Deaton now Circle K and they indicated I had to go to one of the other Marathons, in Leesburg or north of Oxford.
If Publix will exchange cards I’d prefer to stay closer to home than drive 10 miles out of my way.

Babubhat 10-30-2022 12:58 PM

Publix is a third party seller of the card. it likely went through Blackhawk network. Publix is out of the loop once a sale is made. Your best remedy is to sell to Raise at a haircut if you don’t want to use it.

Marathon brand has been selling locations throughout Florida. See the store locator

We just came from the Lake Deaton Publix. The store manager was very graciously exchanged 5 Marathon gas cards for Circle K gas cards. The max number he would exchange was 5, and they must have been purchased from that store, and of course had a receipt. That was better than we had expected.
