Mallory Square-Bobcat sighting
My wife told me this morning that a warning on the Ring neighborhood was posted regarding a bobcat. The posting was of a video yesterday morning, and the bobcat was observed near Mount Croghan Trail in Mallory Square.
I didn’t know about it when I walked my dogs early this morning, but one of my dogs refused to walk up a street in that area. I don’t know why he refused, but initially I thought he might have something wrong with his paw or leg. I know that predators are around, but what was concerning was that this bobcat was out and about in full daylight. He did not appear sick, but this would not be normal behavior. If you have a Ring and “Neighbors”, you can check out the video for yourself. |
yikes amazing sense of smell that dogs have

Attached is a picture of are a couple of bobcats that we see all the time hunting from the perch on top of the fence behind our birdcage/pool in our back yard. They are harmless creatures that live in the wildlife preserve that feed on squirrels, geckos, and other small critters. No need to worry about them unless you have a small cat or dog that you leave unattended (which should never be done) in your yard. We very much enjoy having them as our neighbors : )

I've seen a bobcat twice wandering about in the dark hours in St.James

I walked outside one early morning about 5:00 am to bring the trash to the curb. A very quick animal (did not look like a dog) came running very fast right in front of me ran between my house and my neighbor's home. Within 5 to 10 seconds, I heard what sounded like a small dog screaming out in pain. That scream lasted only a few of seconds then complete silence. Ever since that incident, I'm very careful when going outside when it is dark. It was a very chilling experience. I felt so sorry for the poor little dog and his/her owner. |

I see them every now and then in daylight. Had one come up right behind me while I was gardening. He was very sweet, stared at me for a minute or two and then got bored and wandered off. See coyotes, armadillos, raccoons and gators too. I love seeing all the wildlife in our backyard.

Bobcat
We saw one last year first day at about 9:30 in the morning, next day in the afternoon around 3 ish. I called the wildlife folks and they said to make a commotion like banging pots together. Said they’re more afraid of us and won’t come back if they’ve been scared off. Haven’t seen one since.

You "enjoy" having them as your neighbors until they do something you might not enjoy.

Bobcats are not Harmless Creatures
Bobcats are not harmless. They are formidable, wild animals that can eviscerate a Doberman faster than you can say, “here kitty, kitty, kitty.” Yes, I know someone to whom this happened. Drug the dog out of the dog door. Not a happy day. Live and let live I say, but don’t underestimate the power and capacity of these seemingly small cats.

Bobcats might be cute but they’re here for a reason, they’re predators. Very nasty if you approach one, I know because hunted them. Very nasty tempers. Hope an authority reads this & gets them out of TV. If you think they’re cute & cuddly I think you’ll be sorry! Bobcat always avoids people, they must sick!

Bobcat also in Village of Sanibel
I was sitting in my enclosed lanai about 10 days ago and likewise saw a bobcat which walked the whole length of the lanai almost touching the lower windows about 6 in the evening. Quickly scooted off when I banged on the window. Probably weighed 15-20 lbs. Small but certainly bigger than your normal housecat.

About a month ago we had a bobcat walk through our backyard. He was in no hurry. We live in Bonita

males being much larger. Must have been a panther. |

We did get a Dobie puppy later and had to fence in our back yard. The breeder had already cropped her ears and docked her tail. The blood would attract a bobcat to a young, vulnerable pup. We got a fence put up quickly but in the mean time I carried her out to the yard and as soon as she was done I picked her up and carried her back in the house. |

Never Underestimate a Wild Animal

As for panther/mountain lion, I’ve seen film of one hopping over a ten foot fence and dragging a 90lb Akita over it like it was a kitten. Never underestimate the power and strength of a hungry, wild animal. |
Bobcat Hacienda South
Neighbor video of Bobcat walking between our homes in Hacienda South around 5pm…2-3ft tall came off golf course into our hood yesterday
|
Oh they get heavier than that!
|
Your exactly right, even if some people think they look cuddly!

Hope someone calls animal control, & keeps it in sight until they get there. They’re not easy to trap they might have to dart it & knock it out.
