Just want to say goodbye to all the people on here. I know I’ve had some differences with some of you but I do enjoy the banter and seeing some of the opinions has been an interesting experience. Even the moderator had his moments I enjoyed being in tv jail for a month. Lighten up pal you can sure misread an opinion. Any way enjoy you time in tv and I wish all of you the best.

We moved to Arden 10 months ago after 10 years in TV. Best move since we moved to TV. This area is great.

Someone once told me you have 3 stages of where you live in life.

1. You live where you NEED to live.
2. You live where you WANT to live.
3. You live where you HAVE to live.

"Happiness ain't a thing in itself--it's only a contrast with something that ain't pleasant. As soon as the novelty is over and the force of contrast dulled, it ain't happiness any longer, and you have to get something fresh" -- Mark Twain.

Safe Travels

We moved from The Villages to Asheville about 3 years ago. While we had a great time in The Bubble, Asheville is an incredible place to call home, for so many reasons. Hope you enjoy NC!

When you say it is not for us, what in particular was not for you? Was it the weather, the people, too crowded, the politics, missed grandchildren, etc., etc.? What would have had to have been different for you to stay?

Other people that are considering moving to the Villages would probably find the answer helpful.

Hopefully you made a nice profit on your sale and enjoy North Carolina.

That depends on the family and family includes siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and so forth.

That poster responded to the OP who stated they were moving to North Carolina and they said they had moved to Arden. It appears they are talking about the same state.

I love Florida and I love the villages but my plan from 25 years ago hasn’t changed at all,I said that around the age of 85 which is in 14 months , I would go home to Boston for good and it’s still the plan. The thought of aging out here scares me a little , I want to be able to walk everywhere, to see life on the streets with different races and ages and if it comes to the point sometime where all I can do is look out the window ,it’ll be a better view then my front yard or some assisted living parking lot

We came back home to Concord NH on July 5 this year. We know what we are facing with the winter, but in our case we will have nothing to do with clearing snow. Our youngest son built us a beautiful apartment attached to their home and it has turned out to be better than expected. We really like living in New England, like the people, the food, especially the fish and lobsters, the fresh produce that people sell from their front yards, and most of all we love the foliage colors in the fall. We have four grandchildren, two here and two in the Southern States, they all intend to move back to NH when they have their own families.

It has been a great move and I would have done it sooner, but my other half was enjoying his various activities until one day he said OK, lets go. We spent 18 yrs in Florida, but we both knew we did not want to die in Florida or end up in an assisted living facility.

Life is good and it is great to be back home with family and friends. .

Gotta say, we have just about decided the same thing, that TV isn’t for us after 6 years. We are just trying to decide where we would like to live out the rest of our lives. I like warm weather, husband likes it cold or colder than here. He loves golf. I don’t. At this point, we are narrowing down choices, but with all of the advantages of TV….beauty of manicured grounds, convenience of medical services and shopping necessities and restaurants, golf cart accessibility of amenities, it isn’t an easy task. Suggestions appreciated. 😊. And good luck to the poster of this string.

And fabulous golf courses, Biltmore Forest, Grove Park Inn, Asheville CC, BUT don't forget the Moose cafe for giant biscuits and Apple butter...yuuum!!

We have friends who have moved to Seven Lakes in NC and they absolutely love it. They are both excellent and avid golfers and golf almost all year.

I had some dog park friends who moved years ago to the mountains of NC. They needed to sell their Villages' house. They have family close by in NC. Since then, the husband passed and his wife might be back in FL. Not sure.

After 16 great years, we moved back north. Covid changed everything for us. Felt too far away from kids and grandkids. Haven’t regretted a single day.

that's the hard and bitter lesson learned by those who said to all, " i wont move to the villages, my gc need me" 15 years to late. All they get is hi grandma/pa, bye grandma/pa

Wife and I must be very lucky then.
Or.
Maybe we taught our kids and grand kids to be better people than that?

Our grand children never "needed" anything but love from us, they had their own parents to love them and guide them into adulthood. We were just there to be a safety net if they ever needed one, and a couple of them did. Technology has made the world a very small place and we kept in touch through any means we could, we flew back to holidays and birthdays, we were there for them whenever they needed us. They had their lives and we lived ours.

Everyone takes a different path. There's no right or wrong here. The Villages is like anywhere else, it's not for everyone. I have friends and family that wouldn't leave their grandkids if you paid them to. Which is fine if that's what makes them happy.

Afterall, at the end of the day isn't that what we all want? To be happy.

My wifes sister and her husband live in Stone Creek/Del Webb in Ocala and love it. They looked at the Vilages but thought it was too busy. lol.
We visited them there and thought it was boring. No way we would live there.

Good luck with your relocation. Hopefully it brings you much happiness!

You made the right decision.

BRN_RI_FL 11-08-2022 07:01 AM

We’ve only been part-timers in FL for almost 5 years. Our intention was to eventually sell RI and become full time Florida residents. However, living my whole life in RI I took a lot of things for granted that I’ve only recently realized. I love the four distinct seasons in RI. Two + acres of land, privacy and wildlife out in the country is also a plus. Those two acres of land includes about an acre of lawn which I enjoy cutting with my riding mower. Then there’s restaurants, doctors, family, etc. Winter can be long in RI which is definitely not a plus but summer can also be long in Florida. As a result, we’ve decided to remain part-timers in Florida.

We have a lot of contact with kids and grandkids, and they all supported our move to TV. I have a grandson station at Eglin Air Force Base up in the Panhandle (part of the Army 7th Special Forces group stationed there) so we see him from time to time. He's coming down for Thanksgiving as a matter of fact. Granddaughter flying down in December for an 11-day vacation. My stepdaughter, her husband an four kids (ages 13 to 24) come down once a year, and we fly to Minnesota quite a bit as well. My son comes down from time to time. Sister-in-law from Milwaukee comes down each April for about 10 days--loves to play golf.

There is something about a Minnesota winter that makes a stint down here in the land of sun and palm trees VERY attractive.

Of course there has been some lessening in personal contact. Living an hour away by car vs. flying from one end to the other will inevitably cause that. But we make up for it, and then some, with the quality of the time spent.

Having recently moved from The Villages to Asheville, NC 3 years ago, this conversation is quite interesting to me. I thought I would miss all of the things to do in The Bubble, but for those interested, here are a few things in beautiful Asheville (we live in WONDERFUL small suburb called Weaverville) that are SO much better than The Villages IMHO. Ya'll come on up! Asheville NC Insider’s Travel Guide
