Firestick No Signal

Have a Firestick on a Hitachi TV. Been working fine for 3 years. We stream with Internet from Century Link. We were away for a couple of weeks and when we came home this TV doesn’t work. TV turns on but then says No Signal. Other TVs in the house work fine so it’s not the Internet connection. Have tried the suggested fixes of unplugging the Firestick from the TV. That doesn’t help. Also tried plugging the Firestick into a different HDMI port and that didn’t work either.
Any other recommendations?

roob1 11-14-2022 05:20 PM

Firestick, Settings, My Fire TV, Restart.(while fire stick is plugged in)

- Make sure the TV is looking for a signal from the HDMI and not the antenna (you probably already did this but I would hate to overlook something)
- Try plugging the firestick into another TV to make sure the firestick output is good
- Try plugging a firestick from another TV into this one to make sure the power cord and the HDMI input are good

Can’t get to settings. Can’t get past the No Signal message.

I think you should retry what Bill14564 was suggesting, from your tv remote you want the menu device settings, scroll thru each one until your fire stick pops up.

Caymus 11-14-2022 06:36 PM

Did you check the batteries?

Babubhat 11-14-2022 07:05 PM

They do crap out. Lots of sales now. Found Roku much better. Check slick deals.net

To reboot without going through settings, hold down the ok button and the pause/play button simultaneously for 5 or so seconds until you get a powering off message. It will reboot and come back on.

keepsake 11-14-2022 07:20 PM

While you were gone there was likely a power outage. Unplug stick and attempt to access settings.

RouseysMom 11-15-2022 04:27 AM

Does the fire stick have power? If you have it plugged into the USB port on the TV for power you may want to try plugging into its own outlet. Let it “charge up” a bit then attempt the input search for the fire stick on TV.

Two Bills 11-15-2022 04:41 AM

This is useful for some Fire Stick problems.

Roku sticks are on sale for half price at Best Buy and Amazon, $24.99. In my opinion, they work better than the Firestick.

Joncar11@sbcglobal.net 11-15-2022 05:09 AM

Unplug the TV and Plug in again and restart. I had that problem and it was the TV that had to be restarted.

I have found that it is usually a good idea to use a plug-in house current USB device to power the streaming stick instead of the USB port on the TV.

We tried Fire Stick and found Roku sticks much easier and more reliable.

airstreamingypsy 11-15-2022 08:06 AM

I wouldn't change the Firestick for ROKU, I have 5 Firesticks and they work flawlessly. I wonder if, during a power blip, the TV went on a different HDMI port. Unplug TV and Firestick. (Firestick power should be from wall outlet, not USB back of TV). Plug all back in. Use big circle to power up Firestick, and use TV remote to change HDMI to find it. It's also possible that power outage/surge killed TV. I had one die from a power surge here, now all my electronics are in UPSes.

Firestick

Maybe look for a reset button on firestick or. Go to their website

Mine did the same thing. Brand new fire stick. Next day worked fine. We have xfinity. No clue what happened. Doesn’t help you but maybe it will start again.

Rheinl271 11-15-2022 08:19 AM

Have encountered that a few times when the stick hasn’t been used in a while. Unplug the power source to the stick and plugging back in seems to reboot it ok.

Will have to try the reset from the remote someone suggested here next time.

sborlove 11-15-2022 08:21 AM

Pull the firestick out and unplug power. Wait 10 seconds. Do the same to the tv. Then plug back in. Should be back up and running.

braguy 11-15-2022 09:00 AM

Unplug the TIVO ! Wait a few minutes and plug back in!
Should reboot the Cable connection

ron32162 11-15-2022 09:15 AM

unplug from the power for 30 sec plug power back in then hit the home button

There was a solar flare 11/6/22 that locked up a bunch of our electronics. Had to cycle power on the router and the smart TV. Other issues I can't remember now, but just cycle power on everything and see what happens.

JerseyBK 11-15-2022 09:23 AM

Hey...if you haven't already tried this, it could be that your TV is on the wrong input. The remote should have an Input button, which switches between the different HDMI inputs on the TV. Try switching through the inputs, wait a few seconds, and see if the Firestick shows up. Good luck!

HRDave 11-15-2022 09:35 AM

TV Inputs??

Did you check your TV inputs? Sometimes they get messed up and the TV will change to an unused input.
Make sure you have the TV inputs on the HDMI input the Firestick is plugged into.

Loug56 11-15-2022 09:44 AM

cache

Clear App Data and Cache on Fire TV Devices
Go to Settings on your Fire TV.
Select Applications.
In Manage Installed Applications, select the app you are having trouble with.
Select Clear Cache, and then Clear Data.

I would never but a Roku. To limited on what you can do. I only but Firesticks or Android boxes.:clap2:

In what way is Roku more limited than firestick?

Professor 11-15-2022 12:41 PM

Not trying to be a simpleton here, but you might try using the TV remote and make sure that the proper HDMI port is selected on the TV itself. We have one remote that is easy to bump the input selector on and once we reset the proper HDMI port that usually fixes the problem for us. Good luck.

Bill14564 11-15-2022 12:59 PM

If anyone is interested in the current score:

Use Firestick menu to reboot: 2
Reboot without using menu: 1
Power cycle firestick: 6
Power cycle TV: 4
Check HDMI input: 6
Try firestick on another TV: 1
Use Roku instead: 4

I was at Best Buy today, and they were out of stock for the half priced $25 Roku sticks, but you can order them online. I just ordered one from Amazon. $25 is an excellent price for the Model 3820R Roku stick.

Thinking about getting a Roku stick. Does Roku come with ads and if so, is there a simple way to disable? I have adblocker on my main computer that works great but my dumb smart TV throws short ads at me every 5 minutes that I have to click to close.

Wouldn't ads or no ads be a feature of the stream you are watching? I have an ad blocker on my computer but that only affects the browser, not the stream it is showing. Are you watching the same thing (Hulu, Netflix, Disney) on both your computer and your dumb smart TV?

If the TV really is interrupting a streaming app (Hulu, Netflix, Disney) to insert an ad then I would definitely get a Roku or firestick and avoid the "smart" features of that TV and I would keep that in mind when I purchased my next TV.

It doesn't show pop-up ads, if that is what you mean. If you watch free content, there may be commercials during the program, like any free TV shows. Amazon is selling the Roku Model 3820R for $25, which is half the normal price. A good deal for a streaming stick that has everything you could need in order to access almost any streaming service.
