Best Christmas movies.

71 Best Christmas Movies of All Time - Best Christmas Films Ever Made

I just watched Home Alone again but had not seen it in years.

It is number 5 on this list.

Not sure if I would consider Die Hard a Christmas movie.

Why not? It may not have Christmas as it's subject, but if you enjoy it as an alternative for viewing during the holiday season, then it counts in my book. Personally, I like the original Japanese version of Gojira (Godzilla) for my holiday viewing. Me reliving a past life holiday experience.

Was on tv yesterday here in UK.

The Great Escape was always on here at Christmas as well up until a few years ago.
I never liked the thing, but my German BIL was an avid fan of the movie!

JMintzer 12-05-2022 08:48 AM

Elf...

And "Die Hard" IS a Christmas movie!!!

Whitley 12-05-2022 09:30 AM

Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.

charlieo1126@gmail.com 12-05-2022 10:00 AM

The Lemon Drop Kid , the movie has a wonderful scene where Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell sing the classic Christmas song Sliver Bells introduced for the first time , Hope is rather funny in this one and less silly then some others he’s played in

PugMom 12-05-2022 11:15 AM

"Krampus," please keep an open mind about this selection. it's a movie i insist we watch each year, & yes, it can be heartwarming. Krampus (2015) - IMDb

it's a Christmas staple here, mostly because, imo, it's a well-made film. most of Capra's movies are very enjoyable. :beer3:

me too

My favorite movies/shows about Christmas are 3, 6, 15, 28, 70. Not a Home Alone person at all. And never cared for Carrey's Grinch, I'll take the 30-min cartoon every time. I'm okay with his Christmas Carol because he's only annoying in one scene.

daca55 12-06-2022 07:40 AM

Scrooge is my favorite Xmas movie but it has to be the 1951 version with Alister Sims. The best!

Coincidently during the mid-70s one of my holiday viewing movies was the Japanese monster movie called King Kong Escapes at the theater in town. It was a few weeks before Christmas in Hawaii when it was out and the stores and mall nearby were all decorated with lights. Just the whole experience during the holiday and feeling back then; one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" memories.

True story..... James Garner played my father in The great Escape.

airstreamingypsy 12-06-2022 08:00 AM

My favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas. Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen...... magic.

garykoca427@gmail.com 12-06-2022 08:10 AM

I stopped when they said Christmas in Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck was only the 64th best Christmas movie of all time. It is clearly one of the BEST Christmas movies of all time. Should be in the top ten for sure. Die Hard is not really a Christmas movie.

Different parts of the country, even the world have unique traditions. Where I am from, Thanksgiving is not complete until we all gather and sing Alice's Restaurant. At the end of the song, the Christmas season begins.

Any of the classics from that time. I like the ORIGINAL, "The Bishops Wife" with Carey Grant.

dtennent 12-06-2022 10:01 AM

Anyone who has gone shopping early on Black Friday at Walmart will understand why Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

The Bishop's Wife

The original 1947 version of The Bishops Wife. Incomprehensible how that was not on the list, yet some modern hallmark channel films were.

Dgodin 12-06-2022 10:49 AM

The 1947 version of Miracle on 34th street

2newyorkers 12-06-2022 11:05 AM

We watch While You Were Sleeping, Holiday Inn and White Christmas.

It was an amazing story. Your father was lucky not to get out that night.
He probably flew his plane over my father at some time in N.Africa!

jimjamuser 12-06-2022 12:29 PM

I don't believe anyone mentioned the classic "You'll shoot your eye out" movie AKA "The Christmas Story". Watch out for the Bumpas's dogs. And no triple dog dares.
........."Bad Santa" was also good. Great holiday spirit.

While we are on the subject of Christmas and related movies, wasn't anyone disappointed that out of 71 movies there were only 1 or 2 that addressed the true meaning of Christmas? I would have hoped to have seen movies like "The Nativity Story", "The Ultimate Gift", "Christmas Miracle", "The Robe" etc., you know, to counter such other great Christmas classics as "Silent Night Deadly Night", "Batman Returns", "Gremlins" and "Die Hard". Just saying.
