Why does the villages need Wildwood?
The new sections are annexed in to Wildwood. Why? I see no value they provide for a fat tax.
|
Ea$y. It'$ a value to Wildwood, not you. That'$ how it work$.
|
Let see. Water and police are the first two things that come to mind.
|
My guess is that Wildwood got permission to annex those worthless properties years ago, probably so they could tax outsiders who want to build on that land. Now Wildwood is reaping the benefit of their decision.

Technically, if some of the usual county services are provided by Wildwood, the residents should pay less county taxes.

Wildwood rubber stamps...ea$y... With all that money coming in, you see NOTHING back from the government. Kinda makes you wonder where that money is going.

Anyone want to run for office?
City Commission | Wildwood Florida The form of government of the City of Wildwood is known as "the Commission-Manager plan." The City Commission makes up the governing body with powers to pass ordinances; adopt resolutions; appoint a chief administrative officer to be known as the City Manager, boards, and commissions by resolution; and exercise all other powers provided for by the City Charter and federal, state, and local law. The City Commission consists of a Mayor-Commissioner and four Commissioners, whose terms of office shall be for four years; all of whom are elected at large and qualified as prescribed in the City Charter. Their terms of office begin on the second Monday in January following their election. The City Commission conducts its meetings in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order except as may be amended from time to time by resolution or ordinance. |

When The Villages started building south of 466, one of the benefits the developers showed to be approved was that the land was or would be part of Wildwood and Wildwood would benefit from the taxes it could collect. If you remember back then, Wildwood was a very poor community with closed and boarded up stores along 301 and elsewhere. The Villages knew that they had to improve the conditions there so people would not feel threatened going to Brownwood and/or buying south of 466. Wildwood had a very bad reputation for crime back then as well. So, essentially the developer determined that the people building in that area needed to subsidize Wildwood so that it would become a nicer gateway into The Villages.

Richmond water and trash Not provided by Wildwood. We have a county sheriff. See zero benefits for taxes paid. Wildwood wasting money on it’s sad downtown and chasing criminals. It will never be great

I don't see anything nice in Wildwood. Everything looks run down. Who is getting the money and when are the plans starting for redevelopment?
|
Folks could always move north a ways and not be in Wildwood...no city tax...no bonds for the most part and def no bonds north of 466...closer to shopping, town squares, medical, and many more choices of those...just sayin'
|
No thanks to moving north. I am in unincorporated Wildwood and I see no difference in services so don't understand the difference and what you are paying for. Seems to be a pretty run down town and the development plan, which I have only read about in the paper, will take MONEY.

Haven't seen this gripe before. It might become the latest ad nauseum thread like dogs pooping on neighbors' lawns, crowded squares, greedy Morris kids, etc.

United we stand
All of our community leaders whose members live under the wildwood jurisdiction should get together as a political voting block and tell us residents what issues we should vote up or down as a group. This way we would ensure that wildwood treats us fairly.
|
They were smart enough to annex the land that the Villages was going to eventually expand into. If you go to the web: Wildwood-Fl.Gov, and look at the Wildwood Comprehensive Plan 2050, Policy 1.5.5, you will see that all of land where the Age Restricted Development (ARD) referred to as The Villages of Southern Oaks, is inside the Wildwood city limits.
This is most of the developable land : South of SR44, East of 301, on both side of the Florida Turnpike, East to the Lake County line. Will eventually include 60,449 dwelling units. |
Why does The Villages need Wildwood?
You challenge the “wisdom” of the management of The Villages? My goodness - you must be a new resident.

Wildwood was an important railroad town, and when that ended there was the usual deterioration with no plan. Until now. The Villages is a godsend, and hopefully the revitalization will soon occur. It is a blighted eyesore.
|
One correction...Wildwood did not decided to annex these areas. The developer petitioned Wildwood to have these lands annexed by the city.
|
Same crap Pineridge and Pinehills we get nothing I can see from Fruitland Park, just keep paying the city taxes and tax on our electric bill.
