Driving from Ft Myers to TV

Hi,
I drove from Ft Myers to TV and it took me forever. What is the best route to drive?

gatorbill1 12-08-2022 10:39 AM

I75 all the way to Rte 44

DiviAruba 12-08-2022 11:43 AM

Unfortunately that was the way I came. Took over 4 1/2 hours and I did not see any accidents.

According to google maps, it should be about 3 hours 15 minutes - but that does not include stops for meals, bathroom breaks, fuel, etc. Were there any stops? Did you go the speed limit the entire time?

Google Maps time estimates are optimistic—giving you the time it takes to get from point A to point B under optimal conditions for the time of day. Most experts suggest adding 20-25% more time to account for less than optimal conditions.

DiviAruba 12-08-2022 06:17 PM

I was alone, not stop unless the cars were stopped. Faster than speed limit. Also no stopping for anything except traffic.

WingedFoot78 12-09-2022 05:53 AM

It is 196 miles from Ft. Meyers to TV. Driving time should be a little over 3 hours. The best route is probably I-75 all the way.

The local traffic around the Fort Myers area may be heavier that usual because of the activities related to Hurricane Ian — contractors, clean up debris and gutting houses, and so on. Other than that, the drive is straightforward mostly on I-75.

Bertram00 12-09-2022 06:23 AM

If the drive from Ft. Myers to The Villages takes "forever" does that mean you are still on the road?

banjobob 12-09-2022 06:45 AM

No matter what route it is a long drive , suggest I-75 .

collector0915 12-09-2022 07:19 AM

I frequently drive that route and find that if I leave FtM before noon or after 7 PM the traffic is manageable. It usually takes
more than 3 hours to go from exit 136 to exit 329 and most times less.

Hi DiviAruba. We are at Dutch Village now! Although we use I75, we always use Waze which gives alternate routes when driving due to traffic or accident and is updated by drivers ahead of you.

only 1 real way 75 all the way, but not sure why the issue. You didn't mention time of day, speed, etc. All I can assume is that you got slowed by mid-day Tampa traffic. add to that whether you go with the flow or the speed limit or under. eh 4 hrs isn't all that bad
gas stops?
food?

Google maps every time… it will change the route based on traffic and accidents.

Right now, Google maps says 3hr 22 min with 2 small accidents along the way. If you don’t want to pay the toll, 3 hr 58 min

What toll? Have driven that route many times, never paid a toll. I75 all the way.

Route

I can't drive on I-75 (big trucks passing on the left scare me too much, and yes, I do go 55, or used to when I used interstates - when younger I went 65 or 70).

I'd like a good, rather rural route TV to Ft. Myers as I will attend an event there next year. Can anyone help? I've looked at Google which shows more than one possibility but I do not know which is best.

edit to explain: Time is of no concern here - 6 or 7 hours is fine - I just need to avoid I-75. I also cannot drive over large bridges without fear interfering with my driving. I am a good driver, careful and not too slow, but I know to stay away from anything that challenges me, such as high-speed freeways and high bridges.

Not surprised. A lot of traffic on 75 especially around TV.

Looks like you need an old fashioned paper map and have a lot of time and patience. There are a lot of small speed trap towns between TV and Fort Myers. US 27 goes in the general direction. It is probably a lot more dangerous than 75 since vehicles can cross this road. There was a 2X fatality accident on 12/3 at it's intersection with the turnpike. Good luck.

airstreamingypsy 12-09-2022 09:21 AM

Google map Ft Myers to Wildwood. It will show you two routes. I-75 is the one in blue, the alternative is in gray. If this forum didn't make it so difficult to post photos I would post one.

jfkilduff 12-09-2022 09:39 AM

Drive it every week or so 3 hours

Route 75 is always busy with traffic and construction, not to mention if there is an accident. Try coming up the center of the State, even though you will pass through small towns.

DiviAruba 12-09-2022 09:57 AM

Such as what routes?

What routes would that be?

jjombrello 12-09-2022 11:55 AM

We use I-75 and I generally plan for a four hour trip.

Smalley 12-09-2022 12:24 PM

For health reasons it's advisable to stop and get out of the car for a few minutes at least every two hours. Better for the back, legs, alertness and to avoid deep vein thrombosis. My two cents.

I normally wiggle my feet when sitting. I’ve had blood clots before and make sure I move my legs and feet when on a plane or car.

Ft Myers was fine. It was worse nearer to here.

I will be at the Divi Golf from 1/9 - 1/23.

That drive is miserable.... best to take a flight (private charter)

Getting up and walking a bit is much better than "wiggling your feet"...

I can’t help you, sorry, but wondering the best route to take to Naples. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks!

Same as Ft Myers only farther.

ScottGo 12-12-2022 06:05 PM

I-75 south to I-275 south, back on I-75 south in the Bradinton area and another 2 hrs depending traffic/weather or whatever. I-275 will bypass outer Tampa. usually a little quicker. Naples add an hour.
