Lithium Battery Conversion Columbia ParCar
 

Trying to convert ParCar to Lithium. Have purchased a 48 volt Eco Battery. Everything installed; Battery, Onboard Charger, voltage reducer and new battery meter. Just one problem (that I know of anyway); the hand brake has an interlock which I need to rewire. When I disconnected the old onboard charger (a Delta Q) I disconnected the interlock which came off the charger and which was tied into the interlock wiring coming from the hand brake. Now I have a black wire from the hand brake with a spade bit but not connected to anything. Previously the interlock system for the charger and hand brake received voltage from the batteries via the charger. If the charger was charging no voltage was allowed to flow through. Same is true for the hand brake (if hand brake on then no voltage going through) Cart had 8 six volt batteries before the change. I have contacted 4 golf cart shops and none have been able to help. Since this is not my area of expertise I hate to assume anything. My thought is that the previous system would have received around 52 volts through the interlock system being fed from the charge system wiring connected to the batteries. Now I do have the option to feed through the voltage reducer which would only provide about 12 volts. So once I answer the question of the voltage being sent previously through the interlock system I could determine which way to go. Thanks for any help.

If there is any possibility of getting the original wiring diagram, I may be able to help, but I would need that diagram. Did you happen to check with the provider for the "kit" you used for the conversion to see if they have any info?

Have been online looking for wiring diagram to match, but not successful yet. I have contacted Eco Battery, but to say kit would be using that loosely. They sent me same items for my Club Car (Which I did with no problem) and the Par Car. Just for everyone else's benefit they have a skinny battery and a pretty much square. Specs are the same but size dimensions very different. I was expected the more square from The Golf Cart Farm which is what they show on their site. However, both sent were the skinny version. So the kit included battery, voltage reducer, onboard charger and dash meter, but no instructions for anything with a ParCar. Tech support said they couldn't help as they had not done such a conversion in-house and had not received feedback from anyone who had. Have also called shops in South Carolina, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Wisconsin (Waiting to hear) and stopped by The Villages Golf Car Service. Didn't think it would be this difficult for those who work with these things every day, but evidently I was wrong. For now I'm just trying to hook up the interlock from the brake to see if that fixes things. Just didn't want to have the wrong voltage going through. Since the voltage going through before was determined by the voltage back fed from the batteries, if I could confirm that was 48+ volts then I can connect to the 48+ from my current 48 volt battery. Couldn't find anything for the Delta Q charger which showed any voltage reducer for the back fed voltage going through the charger interlock wiring. I was thinking of hooking up my Delta Q charger (but not as a charger) to see if I get 48+ volts going to interlock. I just didn't know if the full 48 is back fed from the old system. Seems like an easy question for those of you who understand these things. This is not my field so if this doesn't make sense my apology. If I could find a ParCar with the same setup I could test the voltage with everything hooked up, but I realize there are not a lot around. May try to contact one of these shops again to see if they would do the test for me. Thanks for your time.

OP, you have already done almost everything I would have done, so, did you try an internet search, say something like: Par cart lithium battery conversion or similar, with any luck you may find a site with info, or a youtube video.

Thank you. Have been searching for such a video, but still have not seen my issue addressed. Perhaps Kenny or a dealer I am waiting to hear from will have the solution.

Check out Palmetto Battery Pros. They have a lot of Youtube vids and work on many types of carts and use various batteries.

Palmetto was one I called. Said they had not done a ParCar and couldn't help. Thanks for the info and taking time to respond.

OP, can you get or do you have the wiring diagram for the ORIGINAL installation, that might be all I would need to solve your problem.

I want to do the same conversion but can find very little info.

Which ParCar do you have? I have installed lithium in two of them. I think I know which wire you need to connect.

Does Lithium conversion increase value commensurate with investment?
 

Does anyone on this forum know whether converting a conventional electric cart to lithium will increase it's resale value commensurate with the investment?
