We are thinking about switching to YouTube TV from Direct TV...
If we do, how can we get rid of the in-ground satellite dish in the back yard?
thank you... |
Need to remove it yourself, they will not want it or remove it. You tube is great since I dumped Comcast TV.
|
Just cut the cable and remove the dish/pole, throw away.
If you can’t do it, youll need to find an handyman or landscaper to do it. I’ve been with YouTube TV for a few years - really like it. |
Be sure to check the channels that youtubeTV has versus the channels you normally watch. YouTubeTV didn't have a couple that we watch compared to Directv. In case you aren't aware, you can get Directv stream which is cheaper than Directv by satellite. There is a streaming app but it doesn't work well IMO because you can not enter channel #'s. DirecTV stream has a small box (approx 6x6x1/2) and the menu and all remote functions work exactly like the sat service. Channel #'s are the same. There used to be refurb boxes available for about $50 which is what we chose. New boxes can be paid for monthly on your bill until paid in full. Sign up online and get free unlimited DVR. Recordings are saved for 9 months.

Clarck Howard just had a article in cutting the cord from cable to streaming.
He warns that the future of streaming will be raising their prices and suddenly we'll be paying cable prices again. Shop wisely for streaming services. The nice thing about streaming is that you can cancel anytime, (for now anyways.) |
We had DirectTV with a dish in our last location. Arriving in Central Florida, we had Spectrum for about 4 years. Then six years ago, I returned all my Spectrum boxes (3) and cut the cord in favor of Sling TV. We just had a $5.00 a month increase on Sling so we now pay $45.18 per month. The cost is $40.00 plus $5.18 tax. Six years ago the cost was $30.00. A ten dollar increase over 6 years doesn't sound too bad to me. Over the past six years we have changed our plan several times within Sling and added things like sports packages. With Sling, changes are easy and immediate. You simply log in and make your changes. The new changes are available within 60 seconds. So until Sling raises their prices ridiculously or runs me around, we will continue to keep Sling and recommend them to others.

When removed use the dish for sledding downhills after our next snowstorm. Oh wait…. Never mind.

My son got rid of cable and has YouTube etc. I find it takes about 5 minutes to change the channel.

Google Assistant works so great with YouTube TV, tell it what you want to watch, and boom you are watching.

P.S you can get a free trial of You Tube TV to try it. I will be doing the same in a few months as they will soon have the NFL package. |
It seems like the new trend in streaming is to produce a new show with a popular star, like Sylvester Stallone on Tulsa King, and then require you to pay $4.99 per month for Paramount Plus, which you may never watch again.

I also have quantum fiber and YouTube tv. This months bill around $105. Last month it was $187 with an increase coming this month from Xfinity. Would have been over $200. Best decision we ever made regarding internet and tv

Love you tube tv since dumping Comcast

Welcome to 2023 ….. STREAMING YOUTUBE TV will bring you into a whole new world ….Dish, and equipment should be in the landfill years ago! …
|
I did exactly what you are considering about 3 plus years ago and wouldn’t even consider going back to Direct. Give your landscapers helper $50 after he removes the Satellite and pole. You’ll be glad you did it. Oh, use a Roku for your YouTube. They are great!

Do your homework
I switch from Xfinity to YouTube TV, it had less to do with savings and more to do with I wanted a change. But I got a surprise when it came to savings. We have 5 TVs hooked up at $8.50 a box which total $510 a year. None of my TVs are smart TVs so I had to purchase 5 Chromecast devises at $40 each totaling a onetime payment of $200, saving me $310 just the first year. I already had my own modem, but if I didn't that would have been another $15 a month total $180 a year. Now with my program list almost equals the cost of Xfinity, and I will probably stick with what I have because I'm too lazy to constantly make changes. But if you check on regular YouTube there are many sites where people suggest signing up for extras like HBO, Showtime, etc. when there is a series you want to see and when the series is over to drop them and pick them up again when you want to watch them again. I picked up a couple of extras and it only took just a clip of the mouse, and you can drop them just as easily. Before you drop Direct TV, you should figure out why you want to drop them and then do your homework.

Love our Xfinity/Comcast triple play. Love to just speak to the controller and it will find the program in a second.
I seriously thought about cutting the cord but by the time you buy all the extra$, you are paying close to the same. I was at a friend's and he was trying to find a movie. He admitted it is a pain in the butt at times to get the channel/program you want. He said much of the time streaming is inconvenient compared to his previous system. We all have choices and that is a good thing. |

... and who provides you with Internet, and at what cost?
|
When you close your account and pay the final bill, remove it and carry it out to the garbage. You may want to check with your Dish provider if they want the head. (Receiving Unit)
We switched to Quantum and service from Direct Streaming. Very happy and saved $80+ a month. Also, there are no contracts. Good luck. |
Leave it in until your sure you like your decision. Just saying...
|
Who is the provider of quantum? Spectrum?
Local contact? |

That's what makes the Directv Stream a great option when you use their box. It uses a standard directv remote with numeric buttons. My channel package is still the same and about $100 less than when I had the directv dish, dvr, etc. and I still have dvr capability (using cloud storage) with this stream package. You can see the little box here: Directv Stream I looked at going to youtube tv but it was missing some channels that we sometimes watch. Finding another package for those channels was more $ and added another service to scroll through. Having been a directv customer since 1998, we were used to their channel numbers, the menus, etc and I decided to try their stream option. Very satisfied with our choice. They were selling refurb boxes for about $50. DO NOT BUY one off of eBay. Directv stream did an update on their boxes last summer and if a box didn't get the update then, it is now a brick and is being sold on eBay to unknowing customers. There are no contracts so you could sign up for a month, buy the refurb and test the waters. Be sure to sign up online so that you can get the unlimited dvr. |
