Im renting a beautiful home in Richmond, and have noticed that many of the lights on a couple circuits flicker on and off at a fast rate. Haven't seen this before, at first I thought it was a loose bulb but then realized that all the lights on a couple of circuits do it. Am I missing something? or this a thing down here with fluctuating power?

It's an electrical defect, maybe the wall switches. Call the landlord.

We had the same problem when we moved in. It did it mostly when we were running our washing machine. Called warranty and the electricians came out and changed all our bulbs. It seems that the LED bulbs they used were the problem. The electrician was actually able to adjust one of the dimmers just so and he could turn our kitchen pendant lights into strobes. lol

LED lights are very voltage sensitive. You will find many LED fixtures have a separate voltage regulator (?) to prevent this. Most LED screw-in bulbs do not. Also, all the bulbs I've tried calling themselves "flicker-free", are not.

I agree with above, call the landlord so they are aware of the problem, and ask them to call home warranty or electrician. It appears that some of the LED bulbs are NOT designed for use with dimmers and will cause problems. If the landlord says just replace yourself, be sure the package states the LED bulbs state they are dimmable.

We have a couple that do that. Found it is when the dimmer switch is in a position not quite on full.

When buying LED bulbs, I think it is always a good idea to buy bulbs that are advertised as both "dimmable" and "flicker-free". These bulbs used to be a lot more expensive, but now the price difference is minimal and well worth buying, even if you don't use a dimmer switch. Also, the "Daylight" bulbs provide the brightest and most natural looking light.

This has been a problem south of 44, flickering lights.

It’s the led bulbs. I’ve had the electrician out a few times when we 1st moved in and they made adjustments to the switches and it still does it once in a while when you initially turn the lights on. Many others south of 44 have reported the same issue.

Actually, the color of the bulb has nothing to do with the brightness. Lumens are the measure of brightness. The way they get the daylight look is by dumping a lot of blue light which is bad for aging retinas. A warmer light will give just as much light wattage for wattage. It's why the military uses red lights in dark out situations. Retina sensitivity

I have Feit brand led's from Costco and they seem to work okay with the TV installed dimmer switchs.

We had something like that, I called the electric company out. They found that a mole had eaten the insulation on one of the main lines and the wire eroded away . They had to find the break, dig it up and splice in a new wire.

When I changed all the bulbs to LED I had a similar issue.
DIMMABLE LED bulbs REQUIRE a dimmable LED SWITCH. I had to change several switches.������*♂️

Our friends' lights flicker when they run their Keurig machine.

Yes. I had that problem and said it was the LED light bulbs. Their fix was to replace them all

Inferior Bulbs
 

This has been a common theme and question on all the social media sites for at least the past year regarding new home ownership in TV. TV installs a very low quality bulb that does not work well with dimmers. Had to replace almost all off these bulbs in the first 6 months of ownership.

"There are no signs of structural damage to the retina from the LED technology. There is absolutely no serious risk to using LEDs in your home or business environment. In the pro-con list of LED lightbulbs, the pros—environmentally friendly, saving you up to 10% on your energy bill, and better light quality—far outweigh the cons."

You are correct that lumens is the technical measurement of brightness. Although, I don't always believe the lumen rating for some bulbs. Personally, I prefer the natural appearance of the "daylight" bulbs, especially in the kitchen, bathrooms, and for reading. The other bulbs look yellowish. I have a 100 watt equivalent daylight LED bulb in my reading lamp, and it is amazing how much easier it makes reading. But, I think it is a personal choice.

If anyone has the flickering problem, I have a set of 6 Bright white bulbs that I will sell for half the Amazon price. These are Phillips which the electrician told us is the only one that has figured out this flicker issue. I bought the wrong color vs what I have in my lamps.

We had that problem with our new house in St. Johns. We changed to new bulbs and the problem stopped. Get the feeling that TV got a great deal on some defective bulbs.

Is there a dimmer on those circuits, if so there are non dimmable bulbs in the lamps

Apparently, "dimmable" and "flicker-free" are two separate things. Theoretically, non-dimmable bulbs should work fine if the dimmer is turned up to the highest setting, if the dimmer is working properly.

The good old days are gone. Led bulbs, supposed to last what do they claim 25 years? I have a bag full of them that are blown. Where did I buy those? Where is the receipt? For some sending them back to CHINA costs far more than I paid for the bulbs delivered.

The blown bulbs are useful as markers in the yard. Stuff like where the sprinkler heads are.
When done I put them back in the bag.

Color of light seems to not be consistent to what is stated. Typical of electronic stuff one out of whatever fits your fixture will fail early. If a fixture takes 4 I always buy 6 or more. We have many fixtures that take the same looking bulb. I have a closet full of them, ok half a shelf.

Good news. Our outside lamp I have 3 Cree brand bulbs in it. The brighter ones 10 amp? and warm tone. They are nine years old still working fine a guess 9 yearsx10 hours a day=365x10=3650 a year x9=32850 that is amazing
