Home checkers

Just bought a home in TV. We do not plan on moving in for 6-12 months. How do people have there houses checked periodically?

Thanks RCJ

Empty Nest program worked well for us

Community Watch

We use Community Watch. They do a daily visit: check doors, windows and do an exterior walk around. Price is right too

Get internet and a few ring cameras.

RCJ61 02-01-2023 10:17 AM

Thanks for the Link. Seems to be exactly what we are looking for.

Looking into Internet now. Any suggestions for the right company?

It’s called Home Watch.

I have cameras all over the place, and a great relationship with neighbors, who keep an eye on the house.

Still have someone come in, walk through the house, make sure grass and weeds are getting services, etc.
Also, if a hurricane is coming through, they will check the house after storm passes.

If the house is new and labeled as "Smart Home Ready" contact Centric Fiber. When I was signing the contract in DocuSign, there was a flyer for them. I called today and found out that our new home in Newell is apparently already wired for them with everything in place. We just have to close and they turn on the service. Wifi and equipment is included. Plus, they have a special and the first two months are no charge.

We plan on starting with them (we close on March 1st)

Ron

For those who are new, as recently as 4 years ago, there was no such offering as "Smart Home Ready", and houses were all being wired for telephone jacks. . .

I have never hired anyone. We have a friend that has a key and neighbors on each side have our email. In 4 years, no issues.

We were given some information on them from the Villages. Our home says its smart wired also. We are also in Newell and closing 2 days before you. We are very excited. (and a little nervous)

Thanks RCJ

I only have Comcast available. Works fine.

First of all we shut off the water when we’re away. We have a nest doorbell and nest cameras in the front yard side yard and backyard. We have a nest camera in our large living room and kitchen area. We also have a nest thermostat so we can easily check the humidity in the house and, if necessary, turn on the air which we keep at 80. We also have the Rachio internet sprinkler controller so we can also control the sprinklers when we are away. The neighbor across the street has a key if we need them to check the place. There are still a couple things which could still be a concern - a roof leak or a sprinkler head popping out and spouting a huge stream of water.

If you get a FLUME (about $200 on Amazon) and attach it to the water meter, you can monitor your water usage. It will alert you if it thinks there is a leak or excessive water is being used. If you have separate water and irrigation meters, you could just use it on the irrigation and shut the main house off. That said, the water does evaporate from toilets and traps, so getting them refilled on occasion is something that should also happen.

I have a WiFi garage door opener on both the houses I own, and when I was a sunbird(come down in July, up north in January), I had a maintenance company pick up the cart from the garage. I opened the door, watched him get it and drive away. I then closed the door. Easy peasy.

I used the Empty Nest program last summer and was very disappointed with their service. In their brochure they state they visit every 7 to 10 days. Some times it was 14 and 15 days between visits. I called them to complain and was told it is their busy season and they "strive" for 7 to 10 days. I have a 3 bathroom house and the middle bathroom the water was brown so they never even walked into that room. I was on a phone call with my neighbor across the street when coincidentally they arrived and were in and out of my house in 90 seconds. Never walked around the house or could not have time to do the checks they said they do like checking the sprinkler system or run the dishwasher. And they still charged me $105 a month.

I could go on and on but I installed Ring cameras and my neighbor is now going to check on my house.

We go down for a week here and there for vacation. A friend has a key but he doesn’t check on it.

Suggest a WI-FI thermostat…. Check & control your temp and humidity levels ….
