Mine works, but I made it myself from a gizmo I bought on Amazon.

What? Then I guess my wife has a "magic" car, since the gate opens every time we drive up...

Ed Ingalls put mine in. Love it. Works great.
His number is 217-433-1394.

ithos 02-07-2023 04:48 AM

I have one but I have to drive within a couple of inches of the sensor. It also fails to work at least one gate.

Is this typical or is there a better one available?

The exact model I have is no longer available, but this one looks like mine. You also need to buy some stick-on discs, the larger the better, but it is difficult to find discs that are larger than 25mm. I have found the it works better if you use 3 discs inside the mirror, but you still need to pull within a few inches of the gate box.

They all still work if yours doesn’t work it’s because yours is broke or something. but mine works just fine. But you do have to get close to the chip reader at the gate.

jedalton 02-07-2023 06:23 AM

yes they do work

Had mine done two years or more ago and they still work. Use them every day.

Card Reader

When we lived in The Villages all I needed to do was pull close to the gate reader, place my card to the window (as it was still closed) and it opened.
.
Don't live in TV anymore,
One reason is way too much traffic for a retirement village.

It's not true that the chips no longer work.

You must have missed it but according to posts 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, and 18 the chips still work.

You forgot to mention the red button for those gates without guards.

Really?

Where are these "new gate systems"?

Most gates don't have "guard's.

Yes - my wife has a number - but I don’t have one.

bowlingal 02-07-2023 07:20 AM

chip not necessary. The gate pass works right thru your window tinted or not. Just try it!

Bonnie and Dave 02-07-2023 07:38 AM

I’ve heard that a new system is in the works and what many of us have purchased won’t work once implemented. I believe there was even a discussion on TotV. A gate attendant confirmed that they are working on something.

Granted, this is hearsay, so I could be misinformed.

Chamo 02-07-2023 08:03 AM

All I can say is laziness

It's true that a new system is in the works, but that it will not include issuing new gate cards to residents. So, it is likely that the mirror chips will still operate.

yporter 02-07-2023 08:16 AM

Ours still works (both car and cart)

Joe @ (845) 542-7365. He will come to your home, clone your gate card and install it in your mirror. Last year, cost was $25 per vehicle and it took less than 15 min.

There aren't any "new gate systems"...

Not all card work this way. The ones we have WILL NOT work thru the window...

The chips in the mirror are cloned to be the exact same chips as those in the card. If your card still works, your mirror chip will work...

Remlod 02-07-2023 09:00 AM

An article in the Sun several weeks ago discussed TV has outgrown the capacity of the current gate system. They are getting ready to install a new system and one of the issues is to deactivate the capacity to clone cards.

BEETHOVENMIKEY 02-07-2023 09:41 AM

Not worth it

It is my understanding that the The Villages is changing the gate systems. So, do t bother.

Thank you in advance.

Just put the gate card the Villages gave you behind your drivers mirror. I've been doing it that way for years. Long before they were cloning the chips. And it costs you nothing.

retiredguy123 02-07-2023 10:00 AM

Some cars have a groove on the door just inside the driver window where you can place the card. It will operate the gate reader and not interfere with the operation of the window. You can cover the card with black paper to make almost invisible.

If the current cards will work with the new system, they will not be able to stop cloned chips from working.

The only way to do that is go to an entirely different type of system that doesn't use RFID cards...

I don't think that is "in the cards"... :p:p:p
