Getting to Tampa airport

We have a noon flight in August (and no car)

Have checked car rental rates and they want $200+ for one-way rental

Yankee Trails aren't going that way on the day we want

Do you have any experience of local drivers - with rates if possible?

Thank you

splashes 02-17-2023 02:58 PM

Thank you - I am hoping to get a direct answer from someone who has done it, rather than have to call the eight operators on a Google search individually for pricing

We drive down the night before, have a nice dinner and do a sleep and fly.

Yes, I was planning to rent a car, but at $200+ for the day I suspect a private ride will be cheaper

Garywt 02-17-2023 11:26 PM

Workman transportation has towncars you can book.

But is Victoria's state licensed as a livery service and have commercial insurance for their riders safety? Couldn't find such a company on sunbiz.org which is the states business license website.

Babubhat 02-18-2023 07:56 AM

Price will be high because a local driver is unlikely to find a return trip. Look for last minute car rental deals. Keep checking Enterprise

Try AVIS

I've rented an Avis car for 1-way to the St Petersburg airport. Be sure to include your AARP membership # for cheaper rate.

I've done this twice; 1st $125, 2nd time $85

There is an Avis location on 441 south of Leesburg proper, but do the rental on the avis website.

That certainly worked in the UK recently where, checking every few days, I managed to lock in at a price 30% lower than that originally quoted.

We park in their long term lot at the terminal. Convenient and not expensive.

I agree the drive is not much farther than Orlando airport in time and overall traffic/congestion in and out of the airport better if you’re willing to do it.

Mikee1 02-19-2023 08:24 AM

$200 for a rental just might be the least expensive way. Look at it this way, if you were to be in that business. Gas, round trip at close to $100. TIA is right close to 100 miles from TV. Labor , the trip will be 4 hrs. round trip. How much do you charge for labor? Wear & tear on vehicle? I can tell you that if it was me, I could not survive the business at $200.

Try Travelocity

Under Travelocity , go to Cars, do a pick up in Leesburg and a drop off at TPA . Pick up one day and drop off the next(at the same time or earlier). There are many cars under $100 total.

I rented a Budget car to get to Miami Cruise Port for about 85.00. What kind of car are you renting.

Do a Google search on "transportation from the villages to tampa airport". There are a lot of options. Good luck.

If velvet and silk hang in your closet you can step out in rags.

Has anyone ever used Lyft or Uber to or from airports? Our son took a Lyft from MCO to DeLuna for $100. Price would be the same for 2 people and is from airport to residence.

Depends upon where you live in TV. We live near Spanish Springs. Orlando is 65 miles and Tampa is 90 miles. Also to get to Tampa you have to go through entire town and near the downtown area.

Arctic Fox 02-19-2023 03:11 PM

Thank you all for your replies - we have decided to fly out of Orlando instead

A number of our neighbors like to get out of the bubble, so maybe slipping them $150 would do the trick next time :-)

We've used Village VIP Transportation LLC to/from MCO twice. $229 round trip. Unsure how much they charge to Tampa.

Granville75 02-24-2023 01:14 PM

Could you say a bit more about what sleep & fly is? Thanks.

I suspect you drive to a hotel in Tampa, sleep there, then fly out the next day?

Babubhat 02-24-2023 02:04 PM

Hotel near airport sells you a room the night before and includes parking for the duration of your trip. Usually 7 days max
