Pickleball Got Me Today...

My first full day back in TV and I went to play Pickelball with the wife. 5 minutes into our 2nd game, I felt something "pop" in my right arch, close to the heel...

I knew what it was right away. A partial tear in my Plantar Fascia... I tired to finish the game, but I had to quit...

I popped a handful of Motrin, and I've spent the afternoon with and ice bag on my heel and the foot elevated. No sign or bruising or swelling (which is good), but it hurts like a sumbich when I first get up to walk...

I had to cancel our golf game this afternoon...

I could have sworn someone said that Pickelball was better than golf...

Hopefully, I'll be able to play golf when my daughter and son in law arrive tomorrow evening. We have a tee-time at Evans Prairie on Wednesday...

Well, at least I'll be able to take the cart...

Ouch!

Give it plenty of rest - all to easy to try to get back out there too soon.

Think an xray is in order. Pop does not sound good

Papa_lecki 02-19-2023 06:15 PM

Lot’s of time to get in trouble on TOTV then.

Kenswing 02-19-2023 06:20 PM

Now if you only knew a good foot doctor. lol

Velvet 02-19-2023 06:31 PM

Ice, crutches, limited activity, pain control …you know the drill….

And music, good music.

Take two aspirin and call yourself in the morning...

Hardlyworking 02-19-2023 08:38 PM

Sounds painful, I hope you can find help soon.

Medically... I got it covered...

Psychologically? I don't think I'm curable... :jester:

Florida Musculoskeletal in lake Sumter Landing Dr. Weber, have him take a look I have been very pleased with his services. I have potentially bad knees, was advised to avoid all sports with high impact to knees, I have followed the advice, I golf and bowl, and knees are working fine.

ouch...I've had plantar fasciitis, in both feet...hurts a lot....I don't want to try to imagine what a partial tear would feel like...
I've had a succession of hamstring problems this winter, and now fighting (and losing) a battle with tennis elbow.

I wish you a speedy recovery, but you know better than most, these things don't heal quickly.

Thanks, but treating this is what I've been doing for a living for over 35 years...

As some of you know, I'm a Podiatrist...

I just hope it's feeling better before I go back to the office in 2 weeks... Having your Podiatrist limping around the office doesn't exactly instill an air of confidence to your patients... :p

Might as well go on a shellfish and liquor binge, bring on the gout. What the hell, your foot is out of commission anyways!

Chucker 02-20-2023 05:53 AM

Sounds like Plantar Fasciitis. I froze a 16 oz water bottle and while you are sitting around roll it back and forth on the bottom of your foot. Plantar Fasciitis does not go away real quick. It took me months to get rid of it. Good Luck:

And, that's why I don't play pickelball. Way too many injuries

It's also why I shouldn't play PB. However, the "fun quotient" keeps drawing me back.

Ah yes, welcome to Old Age, the mucus the makes TV go around and appointments after appointments to come.

Remembergoldenrule 02-20-2023 07:02 AM

I used a sock similar to these until my foot felt better. Mine came in two pack. Wear one while other washed.

Sand/Beach Tennis is an fun alternative to Pickleball that's a little safer.

Achilles?

racquetdude 02-20-2023 07:38 AM

I suggest you try touchtennis. You can play it on a pickleball court. The problem with pb is the ball bounces too low and the paddles are too short, requiring players to bend over and that causes injuries.

Bad knees? Why give up things you like to do because you have bad knees? Replace the knees or get injections so you can do what you want.

I just love these threads where people don't scroll and read before posting their responses! OP says he's a podiatrist so probably knows what needs to be done. Hoping he feels better soon and listens to what he'd tell his patients.

I seem to be immune from gout. Many a crab feast with no ill effects...

But, I have the needle and cortisone... Just in case...

NoMo50 02-20-2023 08:08 AM

Pickleball is the #1 injury-producing activity in The Villages. Sorry you had to add to the statistics. On the bright side, be glad it's not a torn knee ligament or a hip! Recover soon...

Thanks for the advice. I honestly appreciate it. But I'm a Podiatrist. I have this covered...

Nope. The achilles tendon is fine. It's the bottom of the heel...

LOL! I honestly -DO- appreciate all of the advice, since I know people are just trying to help...

But yeah, It's does drive me a bit bonkers when people don't read the thread before posting...

Villages Kahuna 02-20-2023 08:33 AM

Pickleball can be a dangerous sport. I recall one key rule taught my wife and I when we took lessons several years ago — NEVER, EVER RUN BACKWARDS! (Lots of people suffer head injuries, concussions, bad cuts, etc. when they try to “back up” to hit a ball, then trip and fall backwards, hitting their heads.)

But I’m sure you know that already.

Bilyclub 02-20-2023 08:56 AM

This thread is really showing how many posters don't read the whole thread before posting. Either that or reading comprehension is as bad as the driving around here.

Of course people are going to weigh in with advice. Why on earth anyone would post their aches and pains on this forum is beyond me, short of soliciting sympathy or attention. Maybe a get well card would be more appropriate.

Good grief.

I ended up with both feet having that same problem after playing a lot of pickleball. Unfortunately, it takes a long time to heal at our ages. Good luck.

Oh, I don't know... Maybe just to share something that happened?

But "Get Well Cards" would be appreciated... Especially when attached to a nice bottle of Bourbon...

Apparently not all of us read an entire thread before posting or perhaps some doubt you really are a podiatrist.

For the doubters post either your diploma or some testimonials for people who had problems with their feet and after seeing you walked out of your office.

And yes this is tongue firmly in cheek.:BigApplause:

You actually think any of my patients are able to WALK out of my office?

Damnit! I'm a Dr, not a magician!
