Uh Oh, 462 Nightmare

It’s no secret 462 is having a lot of traffic problems Northwest of 466A between St Vincent DePaul and 301. Church services demand the attention of police officers prior to and after services to expedite traffic flow several time periods a week. The road is of course just 2 lanes. Soon there will be more retail in the area and hundreds more residential domiciles utilized right along this corridor. In addition, yes, there was just more ground broken along the road for yet more multi family dwellings. Adding to the situation are church attendances increasing to the point of more than 1000 parishioners to some services. The road can’t be widened. What was Wildwood thinking of when they OKed the situation?

Laker14 02-22-2023 11:24 AM

What were they thinking?

They were thinking "more is better!"

JohnN 02-22-2023 11:46 AM

Let'$ $ee, perhap$ they were wanting more $ati$fied re$ident$.

I try hard to avoid that area now and forever.

Maybe they wanted us to appreciate how wonderfully The Villages has designed its highway system.

We often drive to the Wildwood area. My wife likes the post office there, we both love the barbeque from Oakwood, we like going to the ACE hardware, and we enjoy going to Sparrs. We often drive along 462 and we agree that it is going to be a nightmare.

Keefelane66 02-22-2023 01:39 PM

We avoid the area Saturday evenings and Sunday. More of a travel issue on 466a East and West DAILY.

Why was Morse Blvd north of 466 not made as 4 lane road? Developer got most things right but not this one.

Probably because they did not realize how big The Villages would become.

When we were planning to move here in 2016, we did not even consider any house that would require driving along that part of Morse Road.

villagetinker 02-22-2023 02:00 PM

Wildwood also missed the boat when they reconstructed 466a, and left it at 3 lanes (2 travel 1 chicken), this should have been 4 lanes with dedicated left turn lanes, just my humble opinion.

Suzay 02-23-2023 05:55 AM

Cha ching !
More i s better!

They just want money. None of the elected boneheads live there so it doesn't affect them.

Bridget Staunton 02-23-2023 07:57 AM

Don’t forget there are 8 churches on 462 including St Vincent and those churches have a fairly large congregation. We must get used to traffic unfortunately

airstreamingypsy 02-23-2023 08:01 AM

It took me 10 minutes yesterday, to drive from the curve on 462 to the light at 466A. Wildwood only allows churches to be built on 462 apparently, and the brilliant minds on the Wildwood commission have let building churches and housing go unrestrained. I'm afraid the damage is done.

My theory is that they want a slow traffic flow, especially thru the residential area.

I think you are giving them too much credit.

Tvflguy 02-23-2023 08:48 AM

Why can’t the road be widened?

Because Harold Swartz the founder of The Villages had no intention of going further south. Gary Morse expanded "the dream" and Mark Morse and Jennifer Parr got greedy.

Tobys Dad 02-23-2023 09:18 AM

Greed

Harold Swartz the founding father had no intention of growing this large. Gary Morse started the incredible growth, still with no plans of going across 44.
Mark took over and off we go.
Morse north of 466 would have remained adequate if the original model of size had remained.

Wider roads just gets more traffic to the next bottleneck quicker!

More like there was strong customer demand. Someone else would have done it, but with the no evidence of planning we see in Wildwood.

And clearly not as well given the long range planning, creativity, innovation and vision of the Morse family has provided.

When did you move here?

Excellent question...

I find that most people who complain about growth are of the "close the door after I got here" mindset...

Homes South of 44 don't seem to have a problem with that.

Flyers999 02-23-2023 01:39 PM

Wildwood has never seen a zoning change they didn't like. Can't wait for their luxury apartment high rises. Completely overlooking TV. Nice view.

Rsenholzi 02-24-2023 06:57 AM

462 backup

Many of you are under the impression this area is owned by the villages. It is not. It is owned by Wildwood. In the 6 years I have been here , it has never been as bad as it is now. This started when the light at the new condos was put in . It is only going to get worse when the new section of houses are built! I have waited through 3 or 4 lights on Powell Road and can’t see a way around it at this point. It is horrible. I do think it would help if , Police control the lights before masses the same way they do after masses. Oh well, guess we all need to tack on an additional 15 min to our trips down that road during mass times

kendi 02-24-2023 07:08 AM

Lots of people moving to Florida. The housing is needed or they wouldn’t be building.

Romad 02-24-2023 07:43 AM

The Villages wanted to develop Trailwinds I and II with 700 homes and some golf courses. Wildwood said no. It is all about the $$$.

Cleveland Ave, aka 466A, was closed down for 2 years when it was widened not that long ago. 462 was also widened with no consideration whatsoever to future traffic.

Normal 02-24-2023 07:58 AM

Widened

There isn’t the physical room. Brand new apartments that haven’t even been completed yet sit right up next to the road.

mlmarr 02-24-2023 07:58 AM

It's bird season. More and more want to live in freedom..relax is the best way. M

Wildwood said yes... IF the Villages would put in sidewalks. The Villages said, "No sidewalks." Wildwood said, "Welcome Trailwinds"

Thanks heavens they did, Trailwinds has much more interesting places to shop, instead of all the same old places in TV.

Other than Lowe's (which you can actually get to from the historic side) and Aldi's, which much more interesting places to shop does Trailwinds have?

It has Burger King, ABC Liquor, Jersey Mike's, and Marco's Pizza.

It is easy to get there from The Villages, but it is not golf cart accessible.

There are tens of thousands of Villagers that live south of 466 that are glad that they got "greedy".

None of those are desirable businesses that I patronize. I don’t see myself shopping at Trail Winds.
