Location of Memorial Benches

Is it just me or is this the dumbest location ever for a memorial bench? Would it creep you out if someone was on the bench when you picked up your mail?

Two pictures of the same bench at the Tamarind Grove postal station.

We have a bench at the station on Chula Vista Dr. I often see neighbors sitting and talking, or a couple of dog lovers watching their dogs interact, or just someone sorting or reading their mail.
I haven't noticed creepy activity around the bench area which seems to me to be a nice neighborhood social gathering spot. I would more concerned if I spotted someone hiding in their car constantly watching the mail station.

Great spot. In our small town in VA we always are stopping to talk at the PO.

Postal Stations are a great social / meeting place.
(they're like clothes lines from 50 years ago)
People are always visiting at our station.

Probably a story behind the placement of this bench.

I see so many benches out in the sun. It’s nice to see one in the shade where people are likely to want to sit for a while.

Yes.

It's just you. St.James postal station has a bench, not a problem at all.

This is a great idea to have a bench at postal center where people

I see people socializing at the postal station often and a bench makes good sense

That’s my postal station. It doesn’t “creep me out” at all. My previous postal station was Tierra del Sol. It had a bench, too. Much appreciated after a long, hot walk to pick up the mail. Benches like that are great.

One advantage of a bench at the postal station is that all residents will see who donated the bench and who it is in memory of, because every resident evidentially walks by the bench and reads the plaque.

Bench

It's probably the most logical location you could pick. People will use it and enjoy having it.

NoMo50 02-25-2023 08:57 AM

Why would it "creep you out" to see someone sitting on a bench? Now...if that someone was dressed in a clown outfit...

loweglor 02-25-2023 08:59 AM

It would creep me out if that someone on the bench was dead. Personally, I just look at it as a nice place to sit and go through my junk mail just before I throw it in the trash.

Not at all. It's nice to have these spread around where people can use them.

buzzy 02-25-2023 09:14 AM

That's a good location. At least it will get some use. People are not allowed to sit on the ones on the golf courses during play, for safety reasons.

Of all the legitimate complaints one can level about what occurs here in TV...this certainly isn't one of them. lol

That NEVER "creeped me out". The idea of any memorial is to have future people remember a person or HISTORICAL incident. Since a lot of people pass through getting their mail it would appear to be a GREAT place to remember someone's name and life.
.....If anyone was stupid enough to want to remember me, they could put a memorial sign at the Post Office, or in front of a bar, or near a tennis court or, up a tree for the squirrels to see. Just don't put my name ANYWHERE near a Golf (ugg) course!

Might be better for the appearance of the Post Office if people would take their junk mail home and put it into their own trash - because the P.O. trash overflows.

Memorial = Dead

Djean1981 02-25-2023 06:31 PM

I think it is great. Everyone dies, at least physically. There's nothing creepy about it. It's a useful way to remember those who were here and contributed to our community before us.

Here we go, once again, on the topic of trash cans at the postal station.

Since you’re the trash police, kindly share with the rest of us exactly what type of trash is allowed to be placed in those containers.
