Need new mattress
Need a firm interspring mattress. Consumer Reports lists several online brands. They also recommend The Original Mattress Co as a good store.
Any comments about them? Also, how do I dispose of my old mattress? Thanks |
We always made sure the old mattress was hauled away as part of any deal. We recently used Mattress Firm for two recent purchases and they did a great job swapping mattresses and hauling the old one away. Sorry no experience with OMC.

If I were buying a mattress, I would buy a Tempur-Pedic and buy it online.

OP, you can call your waste hauler, and they will make a special pickup, in our area this has a $10 fee. You can also put it out on trash night, and it might just disappear.

When we purchased our house went to several mattress stores on 27/441 to see what they offered. We were astonished by how expensive they were.
Went to Sams and found a very good mattress, made by a national brand, at a fraction of the cost and bought it. Very happy with our purchase and how much we saved. |

We need a new one as well. We spent quite a lot on the current one at a local mattress store.. It can't be flipped and is pretty much done in almost 7 years. I'd rather pay less and get a new one every 5 years. |
We did some furniture shopping at Hudson's in Ocala. We bought a sofa and two mattresses (a king for the MBR and a queen for one of the guest BRs).
We like a firm mattress and found a great one which was made for the Biltmore Hotel in NC. Only issue is it's extra depth and requires deep pocket sheets. We've been thrilled with them so far... |
I don't understand how a mattress store can add any value to your purchase, other than to allow you to test the mattress in the store. I would much prefer to buy it online, and avoid non-helpful sales people.

We bought from Original Matress Factory some years back and it was just OK. I'd not go there again.

If you know what you want, Costco is the place to buy a mattress even if you have to
get their membership. I know a family where they ordered a new mattress delivered to their front door free shipping, and took their old mattress. Three months later, their grandson had a accident. They called Costco got a new mattress delivered in two day, and no questions asked why. |
Buy an online mattress you get a free trial and send back at no cost if dissatisfied. Many to chose from

We just bought the Estate Charles Rogers mattress mentioned in Consumers. I’ve known about the company for years. It’s firm and comfortable and I liked the materials used. The Estate mattress is made in Fla. I did not get White Glove delivery. It was an extra $200. I was surprised that it came in a box. I hired James Dose Dose to help set up and move the old mattress to the guest room. I also researched the Costco route but in the end went a different direction.

Consider getting a Sleep Number mattress. You can adjust the firmness/softness infinitely to your sleeping pleasure, and if you have a parnter they can adjust theirs seperately from yours. We've had the same one for close to 15 years now and wouldn't have it any other way.

Note that this weighs a total of 350 lbs in the box. I paid about $100 extra for set-up, and that was money well spent. It’s easy to set up, but hard to lift, carry, and turn over. These are really terrific for older people who don’t sleep well or may need to elevate their head or feet. Like us. The king bed has two separate mattresses so they can be raised and lowered separately. But if you like to cuddle at night, the queen is better. If you’ll be sleeping alone the rest of your life, just get a standard size. So much easier to make the bed, and so much more room in your bedroom. Amazon.com |
Just replaced a Tuft & Needle Mattress with a King Sizrr Posturpedic Fitm Slab. It was great for about two weeks but back to the store for an exchange for something more comfortable.
I would have bought it online but 60 months INTEREST FREE can’t be beat. In a way I wish I could just cut it out with going for the interest free offers but old habits are hard to break. Ashley in Ocala beat the best online deal I could find by I think a hundred dollars. The bad part was I couldn’t say no to my wife when she saw a beautiful bedroom set there. It still cost less than the deal we had pending at Babbettes. The quality is not as good but it sure came out better money wise for me. Babettes is the best furniture store I’ve ever dealt with. |

Amazon for half the price, they have all the name brands like Ashley that I got for a steal with a heavy-duty frame for $400.

Still like brand new. |
We bought an Avenco king size mattress on Amazon. $500. It comes in a box and when you open the box it basically inflates. It takes 24 to 48 to fully form.
We were skeptical at first but we had friends who had one and you would never know it came out of a box. Our mattress is very comfortable and comes with a 30 day trial and 10 year warranty. There are a bunch of these types on line but this brand seemed to be the best. We went to Mattress Firm and got sticker shock $2000 to $6000. No way! |

They delivered it, frame via ups and trucking company for mattress and box spring, but since we had tossed the old one away before moving here nothing to take away. However it was a trucking company so doubt they would have hauled it away. Overall a very positive experience. |
I know you said “innerspring”. But I’d recommend a Sleep Number air mattress. They’re more expensive, but they last forever. We had a king which we finally replaced after 25 years of faultless use. You’ll never come close to that with an innerspring.

We bought a mattress for our Murphy Bed from the Original Mattress Company store in Spanish Springs. We’ve received numerous unsolicited compliments from our guests. We bought the cheapest mattress that met the specifications from the manufacturer of the Murphy Bed.
|
Got this one from Amazon for the guest bedroom:
Vibe Gel Memory Foam 12-Inch Mattress | CertiPUR-US Certified | Bed-in-a-Box. Everyone says they like it, and it is less than $400 for the king. Our friends that now live here but visited us bought it for their own bed. Wish we would have. Spent double+ on a Nectar mattress and I think I like the Vibe better. You will have to get rid of your old mattress on your own, and will probably need help getting this on your bed frame. |
We prefer our mattress to be extremely firm. We looked locally and could not fine what we liked, that is one a salesman suggested we try Macys in Orlando. When we called, the salesman said I have three that may interest you, and he was correct. We chose the firmest one and have been very satisfied. They had a very good selection.

Have a select comfort. One is #65 and mine is #35. A regular mattress doesn’t work for us.
