Quick question about swimming pools
 

I know there are sports pools, family pools, and neighborhood pools all over the Villages, but I’m interested in locating any that are deep enough for diving. Or at least 8-10 feet deep for surface diving. Where can I find that information?

The sports pools, neighborhood pools and family pools all have signs with large letters, stating "no diving" and I believe all three categories only have 5 feet of water at the deep end. You most likely can find a country club to join that would allow diving, and they might even have a diving board.

Mulberry Grove and Laurel Manor might have a deep pool…..not 100% certain

The priority pools do not have diving boards. We had priority pool membership and never saw a deep pool.

I think the insurance companies have pretty much done away with diving boards in recreational pools.

Don’t think any of the pools are that deep. None have diving boards.

There are only two pools that have starting blocks - Laurel Manor and Mulberry. Mulberry is where the Villages Aquatic swim team practices, and Laurel is where they hold the Senior games swimming events. All the other sport pools are too shallow for diving.

Expect to half to get into a college or school pool. They open for the community at regular times too.

Laurel Manor and Mulberry both have the platform dive boards. The Villages High School uses Laurel Manor I believe for swimming. I personally have never seen anyone dive into either of them, but they are both deep water pools.

Paradise pool has a deep end. It's an older pool. Probably had a diving board back in the day.

But the sign says no diving.

good luck on that one,this is Florida... the only place you'll find that is typically a YMCA or a High school/College etc. Residential areas typically don't have diving pools due to the water table in the state.

Laurel Manor and Mulberry have a deep end. Call the rec dept. they can confirm.

The Paradise pool is a unique and valuable asset
 

We have gone to the Paradise pool many times. Yes, it does have a deep end but no diving board. Changing can be done in the small restrooms. One of it's great features is that, unlike all the other pools I am familiar with, it is open until 10:00pm! When our family visits from more western time zones they need a place to go later in the evening. Nine o'clock in TV is six on their time. Sadly I have read that the pool and recreation center are going to be renovated. I suspect that this will mean the end to this unique, and to me, valuable asset.

TV has no deep water pools. They are designed for water volleyball and are about 4.5 feet at the deepest at most sports pools. Mulberry and Laurel Manor have a few 5.5 and 6 foot sections. A few adult pools have 5 foot areas, but no diving boards.
The country clubs have pools, but I have not investigated them. When I asked if they were deep pools, I got strange looks. There is a membership fee also.

I was going to teach water aerobics here, but the pools are too shallow for anyone over 5'5" to get a good workout. The Venetian Garden pool in Leesburg was suggested to me, but was closed when I checked.

I've recently noticed the all of the sports pools are very cloudy. Does anyone know why?

The new high school will have have a deep diving section, but you might need to “ turn back time” to use it:1rotfl:

Mulberry has diving blocks, they also offer a deep water aerobic class which is phenomenal.

As previously mentioned, the only two sports pools with one end a little deeper that the other are Mulberry and Laurel Manor, but I wouldn’t really classify them as a true deep end. The shallow end of these pools is 3.5 feet like all other sports pools and the “deep end” is 5.5 feet. I can stand flat footed anyplace in both of these pools. A true deep end (at most YMCA’s) is 10 feet and is designed for a diving board. The deeper end at both Mulberry and Laurel manor is designed for a shallow dive of a starting block for competitive swimming, not a diving board. All of the YMCA’s I have swam at over the last 15 years up north have removed their diving boards for liability reasons. Most sports pools in the Villages don’t have a deep end because water activities such as volleyball couldn’t be played in that half of the pool.

You are unfortunately correct. I hope when the renovation of the Paradise recreation center and pool are finished they will retained the pool or allow the new pool to have a deep end.

I would be surprised if they did. Generally pools deep enough to dive, I don’t mean race dive for swimming, use a life guard. Our shallow pools which resemble hot tubs except cooler and larger in area, are easier to handle. Also I find that older people don’t appreciate a person splashing around them. Some ladies have their hair done ($70 or so) to attend clubs etc, they don’t even wear hats against the sun, just sun-visors not to mess up their hair - and along comes someone splashy! Also they can’t swim any more walking is about it. The neighborhood pools are “walking” or socializing not swimming pools. The sports pools are dedicated. The family pools consider toddlers too. Although I have seen some “youngsters” sneak in a swim (not in sports pools) early or late when pools are basically empty.
