sun pass/e-pass double billing
Do any of you use both systems?
I do supprise!!! they both charge for same use |
Please clarify. I thought one was good for the other?? Are you saying that you have both and when you go through a gate it charges both transponders? I need to log on to sunpass and put more $ on mine and I can't find my account number. It is in a very safe place so I can go to it right when I need to - ever do that?
|
e pass
I would put one in the trash can.
|
sun pass
Thats right, they both charge you
|
Don't use two transponders!
The SunPass transponder picks up and charges you for the ePass tolls. I assume if you have an ePass transponder it will do the same thing (for SunPass tolls). So if you mount both transponders, you will get billed twice.
Call the SunPass toll-free number with any questions. They have always been very helpful. |
I have one SunPass transponder and it works with both. Why would you buy one of each?
|
I just have a Sunpass mini transponder which works on both systems. I have never had a problem with it working on the Epass system.

I have Sunpass and it works for both.

Account is on transponder, Right?

Yes, lose one of them.
You only need one transponder for both of them. As far as money deposits go, why not just have them auto deposit into your account? I do it in increments of $10. It has never been a hassle. |
I do the same as Mr. Boston. Never had a problem.

Coming from a world where there are few, if any, toll roads and having driven the toll roads on the East Coast so little, I've always been confused about what is the difference in Sun Pass vs. e-Pass. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Epass is good from Virginia to Maine. Sunpass is only good in Florida. What a pain that we have to carry around several transponders. You'd think that with today's advanced technology "they" could make one unit that can tell what state you're driving and transfer the toll to them. I bet it happens soon. |

The Sunpass Florida transponder works on all Florida toll roads that are marked as either Sunpass or E-Pass and all monies come out of the same linked account. Very seamless. |
Christa Deason, Florida Turnpike Commission.
"Florida customers haven't indicated much of an interest in making the SunPass system compatible with other states. And eventually, all electronic toll collection technology will become "interoperable," probably within the next decade." http://www.tampabay.com/news/transpo...heaper/1132417 |

Things have changed since you left the Bay Area - we now have FasTrak transponders for the numerous bridge tolls ($7 for Golden Gate Br, $5 for the other 7 bridges - they were 40 cents in the early 70's). Wonder if FasTrak transponders will work in Fla??? . |
EZ Pass doesn't work in FL
What timing! Was disappointed last week when my NJ EZ-Pass didn't work in FL. http://www.ezpassnj.com/static/info/facilities.shtml
Have had it for maybe 10 years and used it up and down the East coast, was surprised it didn't work in FL. So now I will need to have BOTH transponders for FL and East coast as I plan to drive to NJ/NY once a year. Anyone who has driven through those tolls, knows the high COST especially on the NJ Turnpike and crossing bridges (almost $50 roundtrip from NJ to MD). Boo hoo, but on the bright side, don't have any tolls nor meters to worry about in The Villages.....another plus for living in TV. |
We just purchased our Sunpass today and will activate it tonight. We have to go to Richmond, VA later this month. How soon after you go through the toll booth will it be before you can see if you were charged for going thru? Also, does anyone know if you will be charged automatically even though you go through the Exact Change lane? If not, I guess I'll find out later this month.

Why would you want to wait in line anyway when you can just pass right through (sometimes at 65 mph)? |

Sometimes, stuff happens
Last trip to TV, I ended up in the wrong lane on the tollway...Sunpass only lane. Once you're there, there isn't much you can do, so I went on through. I was in a rental car, so when I got back to Germany, I saw an extra $7.00 charge on my bill for the toll I missed. Bet it happens alot, with travelers who are not used to our toll systems... Rental car companies probably get a volume discount ... :icon_wink:

If you google "does the sunpass work at ezpass tolls" you will find that the answer is NO. You still need an ezpass around richmond.
