Target, Trailwinds Village to begin construction

Plans have been submitted to begin site preparation for Target, next to Lowe's in Trailwinds Village. Several pages are attached. Note that on pages 2 & 3, North is to the right.

They sure are putting a lot of big box stores in that area. Traffic is getting less than pleasant now. Once this store, Home Depot and all the apartments are completed it'll be a real mess. Just hoping Walmart doesn't decide to put a Superstore in. lol

Triker 03-23-2023 07:46 PM

Being able to Access this area via golf cart would definitely help the traffic situation.

follow the money

Would be interesting to know where the money is going from the land that the villages could not develop because they wanted to remove too many trees according to the Wingnut. It would help with traffic on 466A if golfcarts could access that area. Why can't that be done?

dewilson58 03-23-2023 07:55 PM

Every time I'm by Circle K by Winn Dixie..............I see a golf cart cross 466a.

I'm not sure if the local coppers care.

If you cruise through the houses in That development, you will see golfcarts in some of the garages.

Good to know, but irrelevant.................I see the carts driving North across 466a from TV into TW development.

I remember the times when people were complaining because all the big box stores were on 441 and they had to drive all the way up there. And those that lived in the Spanish Springs area were complaining about all those between 466 and 466A were creating so much traffic and congestion. Now I guess it will be our turn when all those below 44 will be coming to 466A.

mlmarr 03-25-2023 05:15 AM

I see carts cross 441/27 at the Sharon Morse too... along with a....people have definitely gone crazy no rules for me...until they get hurt

Maybe the carts you see are not villagers driving into that development but people who live there returning to their homes. I don't see carts parked at Lowes or Publix parking lot when I go there to shop.

You can't have one without the other. It is a tradeoff that is a net positive. A couple minutes more is much less than the time it takes to go from Brownwood to Lady Lake or to the stores on 466.

I am curious though on what TV would have done with the property if they had been able to develop it. Would we have these same big box stores? I suppose we will never know.

Either way the increase in traffic was inevitable.

It just easier for me to jump on the turnpike and fly down to Clermont for the few times I need to get to a big box store. (And Costco will soon be there as well).

For those below 44 I say "hallelujah"!!

For those concerned about traffic, the road to over crowding and traffic jams has long since been paved by T V. Wildwood is not T V and does not seem to be able to keep up with T V visions. For instance, the 301 / 44 intersection headed north and the fun is only beginning. 301 will be a royal mess for the next, what, 3-4 years based on start date for expansion and the pace they are at with fixing one single corner side walk.

The only negative I see in Target being at SMD is NO CART access like up North; however, not surprising since the vision of cart accessible existence seems to be fading with every 8k homes they build toward the South.

Most likely people living in the in all the homes and apartments. That area is not owned by the T V. It would be nice if the backside of Lowes had a cart path but... nope.

Mulliganguy 03-25-2023 07:26 AM

If The Villages Golf Carts can get to their area then golf carts from their area can get to the villages and then we can have more complaints about too many Golf Carts traveling the Golf Cart Path🤓

There are golf cart parking spots at Lowes. I assume for Beaumont residents.

Never said they were villagers.

I C carts parked at L & P all the time.

daca55 03-25-2023 10:47 AM

The Villages doesn’t own any of that land in that development Trailwinds so I doubt we will ever have access by golf cart.

3105boy 03-25-2023 02:35 PM

The cities of Wildwood, Fruitland Park, Leesburg, and Lady Lake determine for themselves where golf carts may share the roads with cars/trucks both within and outside of TV. (Yes, somewhat influenced by the TV Developer.) Go to city hall with your request to expand the areas allowed by carts or to provide safe road crossings. Show them the benefits.

RUCdaze 03-25-2023 04:19 PM

Why put a Target there in the first place? A Costco would be much better and far more appreciated. As for the golf carts, if vehicular traffic becomes too heavy you know they will crack down on illegal golf cart traffic.

The Villages planned to build 800 homes and Wildwood turned then down because they wanted mixed use.

Thanks. I think that Wildwood made the right call.

Caylaboo

Because The Villages probably does not want to pay to put a tunnel in. Maybe petitioning Trailwinds to do this in cooperation with The Villages would increase sales for all the stores and conveniences in this area.

Not sure where the Sharon Morse is but there are developments along 27/441 with golf carts.

Do you think Wildwood made the right call putting multiple competitors across the street from each other?

I am glad that Wildwood zoned them for some commercial and not all residential. Otherwise the only large retail stores in the area would be in Lady Lake and 466. The closest large hardware store would have been in Lady Lake.

It was a long drive from Brownwood but much longer for folks south of the turnpike.

As far as the multiple competitors issue, I don't know enough to comment on it. My personal preference would have been more restaurants or a Walmart moving in rather than a Home Depot since Lowes is already here.

Wildwood is NOT the one who makes that decision. If the proposed building fits the zoning, they have to approve it.

The company -- Home Depot, CVS, etc.-- decides where they want to locate. And they are very aware of where their competitors are.

I am excited that Target is coming.

I'm located pretty much right in the middle of 441 and 466A. I love my location. Stores and restaurants everywhere and I can easily get to them. Traffic? What traffic? I'm from NY and NJ and South Florida. I know what real traffic is.

THAT is the one thing I'm so jealous of the folks down south. I would LOVE to be closer to Costco.

Too late for a tunnel to be constructed. Would a bridge be a feasible option?
