COPS Program Over Subscribed

Civilians On Patrol for Speeders on multi modal paths program has been over subscribed and we have a wait list. Our vehicles and equipment will not be in for 2 months so we will have to go under cover until then. Our research shows that the Yamaha Golf Cars are 90% of the speeders. Our research also shows that of those 90% at least 50%, the ones with seat belts, are the biggest offenders. We will limit our initial patrols to the Squares from 5-8 pm and ticket only the Yamaha Golf Cars with seat belts. This will take a big load off our future work. Tickets can be attached to the windshields and will have instructions on payment. Thanks again for your service to make the Villages safer.

Huh? Is this a joke post?

dewilson58 03-31-2023 12:39 PM

See if the cart smells like a cigar....................cigar smokers and the worst speeders.

tophcfa 03-31-2023 12:51 PM

Since I have a Yamaha with seatbelts, I’m going to remove the windshield so I can’t get a ticket. Problem solved.

Those who hang their knee outside the cart, will be accessed a double fine for speeding in both lanes:MOJE_whot:

This program had a few month hiatus but they have been active now since march 1. Sneaky, I got busted by 1 near Sumter Sq yesterday. I was passing another slow poke and got nabbed. Reckless driving while passing, $95 fine.

Worldseries27 04-01-2023 04:23 AM

The force is with them

Do these tickets also apply to electric bicycles, unicycles, scooters and "Atomic Cars". Segregating Yamaha Golf Carts with seatbelts is being discriminatory and probably illegal. If this is going to be an enforced ordinance, then speed signs need to be posted on all cart paths at regular intervals. Regardless what may be written within any documentation regarding this, posted speed limits must be in place. And tickets must be able to be contested before a magistrate, with the enforcing principle present for the hearing. Who is going to manage and monitor this? Where do the fine fees go? How will "over zealous" ticket cops be administered to and complaints handled?

The post regarding speeding for whatever reason makes having seat belts in carts a bad thing. Shouldn’t the message be emphasizing speed not belts? IMO giving citizens the responsibility to patrol and ticket is the same as the people driving around to report yard art, etc.

This program is strongly supported by the entitled ones that only drive 16mph but yell at you for passing them.

Polarlys 04-01-2023 06:47 AM

Whew. I almost fell for this one until I looked at the calendar. But I knew that I'd be exempt from this because my Yamaha doesn't have a speedometer.

john352 04-01-2023 06:54 AM

The post states, "Tickets can be attached to the windshields and will have instructions on payment." Under what state law or ordinance by local government can this group collect fines for speeding golf carts? What action can they take if the fine is not paid?

This sound like a scam or a joke.

If you're attaching tickets to windshields it implies you're ticketing a vehicle that is not moving and possibly without passengers?

I have a Yamaha golf cart with seat belts and it does not go over twenty miles per hour. I would hate to come back to my cart at Brownwood and find a ticket on my windshield simply because it's a Yamaha with seatbelts?

Please clarify?

Romad 04-01-2023 07:40 AM

Everyone knows it’s impossible to speed because there are more golf carts and bikes on the multi modals than there are cars on the turnpike.

Heytubes 04-01-2023 07:44 AM

I’ll either remove my seatbelts or just outrun them as my cart goes 43mph. Catch me if you can🤪

Speed Walking is also now outlawed on the Multi Monday Paths. Tickets will be applied to the walker's sunglasses.

As we moved out of the villages 3 years ago it is finally time for the community to take the initiative to control the speeding offenders in their Golf Carts on both the mogul paths and on the streets.
.
As a license plate is not required in T. V. why not require every Golf Cart to be registered with the Village they live in as there are many?
.
Each owner will have a sticker installed on the right side of the windshield which will give the community who owns the Golf Cart.
.
And perhaps require each G C owner to submit their declaration page yearly to prove all have insurance.
.
The community we have moved to requires this on all Golf Carts. The sticker is about 12" wide and 3" high with numbers and letters
for identification. Perhaps use a 3 letter code to identify each community the G C is located in. Example ABC-12345.

entited holier than thou

Sounds like more from the entited holier than thou crowd - if they don't hurt anyone why go to all this trouble. I guess maybe they watched cop programs as a kid or had a cowboy pistol and always wanted to be able to act out like that?

This is why I keep thinking I should go back to texas - they drive faster but are way more courteous drivers than here. And no big entitled group either.
