New Village Announced

Today The Villages has announced the latest new village to be constructed in the southern area. It will be built entirely on the median of the Florida turnpike. Exciting features will include 24/7 golf cart access to the Okahumpka Service Plaza with KFC, Wendy’s and Dunkin’ and Tesla EV chargers. The rec center will have snow cone machines enabling residents to pelt passing 18 wheelers with snow balls. The executive golf course will feature longer holes with narrow fairways and no doglegs. A unique golf cart elevator will be constructed at the Bexley bridge providing connectivity to the rest of the Southern Oaks area. Watch for further updates in the Daily Sun and Goldwingnut videos.

Will golf balls on Turnpike be classed as Out of Bounds, or same as a Water Hazard?

retiredguy123 04-01-2023 06:11 AM

I think the turnpike noise will be a non-starter for some people.

If it lands on the turnpike, you have to play where it lands. There is a new asphalt wedge at all the CC shops

Altavia 04-01-2023 06:31 AM

Oh boy!

Golf cart access to Dunkin Doughnuts and Wendy's!

Not only that, but under the rules, if an 18-wheeler (outside agency rule) knocks the ball 2 miles down the turnpike while it was still moving, you have quite a comeback shot. Of course, if it came to rest first, you can replace it with no penalty (other than getting flattened by the next 18-wheeler. In either case, you can have a Dave's triple in your tummy at the time

Direwolf 04-01-2023 10:47 AM

I have also heard that any of the residence of the new village will have unlimited free turnpike access.

tophcfa 04-01-2023 11:14 AM

Just saw them breaking ground on the new Village from the Workmen Shuttle bus. When the excavator swung around the backhoe it almost grazed the side of the bus, then it almost hit the overhead power lines.

Absolutely hilarious. Thanks for the post !!!!

Freeda 04-02-2023 05:37 AM

Do they have a name for it yet?

Prime property TV is buying, just prime!

RICH1 04-02-2023 05:44 AM

I heard it’s called “ Jake Brake Acres” …
a guy in the stall next to me at Palmers CC, said his sisters friends cousin heard about it from her hairdresser!

I heard on April 1st that the new "village" name was going to be done by popular vote of homeowners.

How about "Village of Speedos?"
Any others?

bobmarc 04-02-2023 08:02 AM

The conditions of the course might be better than what we now have here. Won't have so much to take care of.

That's great news. Does that mean I can grab a "Light & Sweet" from DD via the 4th Fairway at Southern Oaks? Ohhhh yeahhhh

Andyhope 04-02-2023 09:12 AM

That’s funny

Gator_Girl 04-02-2023 09:20 AM

Will I be able to hear turnpike noise? Will TV construct a noise canceling wall for me if I do?

When the turnpike is widened to 8 lanes and they will be adding a golf cart lane but I'm not going to be the first.

Prison View

I heard there is another Village soon to be constructed down by the Coleman Prison… called Prison View! Lots available soon.

daniel200 04-02-2023 06:35 PM

You forgot to mention there will be a Costco built on this site.

Sounds like a plan, leave it to the Villages to be innovative and unique ! Love it ! It's good a platform such as this brings us serious questions to ponder, as well as smiles !

Nucky 04-03-2023 06:20 AM

I see you are in Vermont. That’s not exactly the high rent district on the Monopoly Board! What’s going on up that way today? Is it hug My Moose Day at your Pool or Recreation Center?

Bellavita 04-03-2023 07:37 AM

Well that is just where I would love to live...in the middle of the Turnpike.

The ski areas are still open for spring skiing and maple syrup season is finishing up. But my wife and I are here in Florida waiting for Vermont’s mud season to be officially over.

Thanks for all the comments on my April 1st post.

According to The Villages Department of Sprawl the Coleman areas will be referred to as "Cell Blocks" as opposed to "Villages". All new homeowners are entitled to "three hots and a cot" at the Recreation Center of their choice. Lights out at 9.

Wisdom is more precious than pearl when buying a home!
Some people whom have spent a great deal of money buying at the villages didn't even take in to consideration the noise of the Turnpike when they bought there and now are complaining. What they should of done was do their due diligence before they bought at the villages.

Just returned north to our home in the Berkshires after a great winter in the Villages and am already missing swimming, golfing, and biking every day. Still got snow and lots of downed trees from the big 30 plus inches of heavy snow storm in March. Gotta do taxes, pay a pile of bills, and do major spring clean up. Mud season is in full swing and our driveway and road are trashed, ergggggg! My wife just got the attached phots of moose wandering around in our back yard looking for food after the long winter. We still got about a month before the hummingbirds get here for the season.
