Inserts In The Daily Sun

I always looked forward. especially Sundays, for all the sale inserts from local retail stores,
but their getting less and less if any at all, any reason for this?

Bogie Shooter 04-16-2023 09:54 AM

Inserts are on Wednesday’s.

Maybe because it's cheaper to mail them to you as junk mail?

Kenswing 04-16-2023 10:35 AM

They probably got left on the MMP while you were having your oil changed.

Keefelane66 04-16-2023 11:10 AM

I miss the inserts advertising oil changes by quarts

Exercise?

Michael. yes it's true. I noticed that also. Miss my inserts. Walgreens and CVS used to have inserts. Now I have to go online for the sales of the week. I prefer to read all the inserts, coupons and paper with my coffee while watching the news. Guess I'm old school. It was getting too expensive to print since Covid hit, and sales at all stores declined.

Lot of crazy stuff post COVID. Lowes military discount for instance. If a $400 item is on sale for, say, $380, the 10% military discount doesn’t apply. “It’s already discounted” (??). Had they left it at the original price, the discount would have been $40. Discounts and sales of yesteryear seems to be evaporating.

Inserts for Sunday Paper

The inserts come in the Thursday paper. I always thought it was weird there were none on Sunday too. I used to look forward to them.

alehew 04-17-2023 06:20 AM

You should Call the paper and ask. They also quit the Sunday magazine

chuck90199 04-17-2023 07:21 AM

In think the color inserts have Bern going down in quantity for awhile now. The larger amount of inserts around the major holidays. But I have noticed I get more ads on my emails from companies I should with.

Companies aren't stupid. It is all about cost/benefit(profit) ratio.

Michael G. 04-17-2023 10:41 AM

Some seniors complain about BJ's coupons are digital but
offer their coupon book on entry.

In advertising its all about the number of hits your going to get. With all the snowbirds and renters leaving the pool of active shoppers goes down. Companies like to make their advertising budgets go as far as possible and they are probably holding back on spending in the paper as opposed to other mediums. Also watch around different holidays for circulars to increase, like memorial day next month.

Weekly ads are available online. Cheaper for the companies and better for the environment. Quite honestly inserts are not that effective as a sales tool to the overall masses.

Snowbirds migrate north, less shoppers, not cost effective.

I've noticed that ever growing trend when "home" in south Florida, used to need help hoisting the Miami Herald on Sundays, same at our adult children's home in St. Louis. Newspapers are clearly dying, so the days of every major store (Macy's, Kohl's, Home Depot to CVS...) using newspaper inserts and providing us with at least an entire afternoon of perusing are long gone. Ads, coupons, "deals" and "come ons" are done via "apps". It's ingenious how businesses have shifted the burden to customers to pay the monthly bill for the cell phones to get virtual coupons which no longer are a printing and distribution expense for a business. Most other "services" have eliminated the huge cost of billing, for instance cable providers, banks, credit cards, they can take their payments directly from their customer's private (LOL !) bank accounts and eliminate many employees, printers, mailing departments, and so on. Today I received a notice that Starbucks, in an effort to save the PLANET (not save money and increase profits for Starbucks at all ) are now "urging" customers to bring in their own containers... no, not just the BUY our container and get reduced price refills, that's been around for some time at many places. But SB's is now urging customers to bring in any container, from the favorite home coffee mug, to their favorite sport drink container, and get their favorite SB beverage for $.10 LESS. Maybe restaurants will, eventually (who knows ?) give a small discount if we bring our own plate ! Maybe it will begin with buffet restaurants and spread in popularity ?

What is the point of getting a newspaper delivered anymore. Just adds to the trash. if it rains ours is always wet.

Daily sun is cheap and enjoy reading the sports section. Bring the papers up north to start fires in the wood stove.

Advertising with the newspaper is very expensive and most marketing people know the internet is the best bang for your buck. Direct to the people

Depends on the target demographic trying to be reached. Internet definitely the way to go for younger urbanites. Print media still a good marketing vehicle for retirement community demographic.
