Knife sharpening IN or near The Villages.

I am looking for a kitchen knife sharpener. Any references?
Thanks.

A person or a device?

daniel200 04-17-2023 06:41 PM

I have been using this device for kitchen knives for several years. It has ceramic blades that sharpen the knife. Its easy to use and will quickly put an edge on your knife. There are many similar on Amazon …

Amazon.com

I use the same type of device that I bought at Bealls Outlet last year. I never understood paying someone to sharpen a knife.

PM me, I have a nice diamond sharpening stone and enjoy putting a good edge on knives. Love to put an edge on regular blades, can’t do serrated blades well.

Another vote for Ace Hardware. Done in less than a week and very affordable.

Any ballpark on pricing?

Battlebasset 04-19-2023 06:10 AM

I bought the Presto 08810 Professional Electric Knife Sharpener from Amazon about a year ago. It is powered vs manual so it's more expensive, around $70. However, it is easy to use, and does a good job. Quick too.

I just had all my pruning tools done by Jim Bribois 352-571-5383 down in Fenney. He did an outstanding job, has all the equipment, very welcoming & a joy to talk too

JDDankert 04-19-2023 07:26 AM

Try The Marion Market for sharpening tools and knives.

The price is a deciding factor. Geezz

chriskarst 04-19-2023 07:36 AM

Cutco comes to The Villages every other month or so. Charge $5/knife. Just get on their email list & they send you notices re when they will be here. They take appointments so you never wait. They do a great job.

retiredguy123 04-19-2023 07:48 AM

I have one of those wooden blocks with about 10 knives, but I only use one knife for just about everything I cut. I guess I need a knife lesson.

CandJ 04-19-2023 08:00 AM

I have used knifeaid.com
Not inexpensive but I have been very satisfied with the results. Basically, once you pay, they send you prepaid envelope for shipping and they come back in about 10 days. Had some high end kitchen knives that didn’t want to trust just anyone with them

Madscout1 04-19-2023 08:23 AM

A person.

To some, yes... It is...

CynthiaAnn 04-19-2023 09:04 AM

If he is a Cutco rep, he shouldn't be charging to sharpen your knives. It is a free service.

SBerson1948 04-19-2023 12:22 PM

Take a coffee cup, turn it over, then use the unglazed rim as a sharpener.

That Market of Marion guy ruined my Henckel chef's knives. I had to send them off to be fixed. He may be good for some things, but definitely not for chef's knives.

It is a free service if you send the knives to the factory, but you need to pay for "shipping and handling". Their website is not perfectly clear as to whether or not local reps are free, and/or they may be sharpening non-Cutco knives. Looking at the prices for their knives, I won't ever be buying any.

This sounds like Retiredguy's cheapskate nomination to the 2023 tightwad of the year. This is an extremely high honor.

Dgodin 04-19-2023 01:58 PM

ACE is the place

We’re also very happy with the job Jim does. I think he’s around $5 per knife. A little more for serrated.
