Here's a trailer.

It does lose a lot on a screen smaller than most movie theater screens. Saw it three times at the Old Mill Playhouse.

Really enjoyed it but did not understand why our enemy had better planes than we did.

Keefelane66 05-21-2023 12:37 PM

Enjoyed Maverick BUT similar plot line in the ending of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope: Destruction of the Death Star. It was a one in a million shot and Luke accomplished it.

Probably someone with a lot of oil money or a despot who pretty much gets the money pulled in by the government. It is his or her state/country.

But not far fetched. Just think about North Korea.

Maverick

Don't see Tom Cruise movies after finding out some of the things he stands for.

Blackbird45 05-22-2023 06:28 AM

I hate to be a kill joy.
I love the visuals and they get better every year, but it's the same old tired script.
Good triumphs over evil or the underdog wins at the end.
I don't know what Hollywood could make different, but if you've seen one of these movies you know what the ending is going to be before your second bite of popcorn.

Never been a big Tom Cruise fan, but Top Gun: Maverick, is easily (in my opinion anyway) his best work. Cruise brings a maturity and a seriousness to the role that just wasn't there in the original Top Gun movie. And the romance between Maverick and Penny Benjamin, two middle-aged folks in real life as well as in the movie, appeals to a much broader audience than the original somewhat vapid fling between Maverick and "Charlie".

I haven't seen it yet, must do that. I'm looking forward to Fast X.

suggest viewing rogue one if you like the star wars franchise

retiredguy123 05-22-2023 07:27 AM

I would finish watching the movie if I could just remember where I was when I fell asleep the first time.

Hmmmm.... something to think about...

Fastskiguy 05-22-2023 09:38 AM

It sounded good too with the boom boom turned up!

But who the heck is Penny? I feel cheated out of a backstory.

Joe

And that accomplishes what? Penalize the many for one?

She is some kind of love affair he had around three or more years before the setting of Top Gun: Maverick and is the daughter of an admiral. He was sent back then on another mission.

I kinda got that but it felt like there was too much familiarity for the limited backstory we got. Just a nitpick though. I loved the movie!

cjrjck 05-22-2023 11:03 AM

The original is a classic. This one may soon join it. A good alternative to the overdone and silly super hero movies of the last five years. Still, there are a lot of plot holes in TGM and if you know anything about military aviation, a lot of scenes that just don't make sense. But that is Hollywood.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

It is a winning formula at the box office. That is what matters in Hollywood.

Wait until Killers of the Flower Moon comes out in late Autumn 2023. It is a real life story of the triumph of evil which happens a lot in real life. The book of the same name tells the sad story.

Killers of the Flower Moon - Rotten Tomatoes

I enjoyed the movie as well, but that's EXACTLY what I thought when I saw what "the mission" was!!!
