Golf Cart Turn Signals
I bought a refurbished to like new 2020 Yamaha golf cart from The Villages Golf Carts about eleven months ago. All was fine until late last year when the turn signals would flash both left and right like emergency flashers when the left turn signal was selected. It was an intermittent problem that would continue for several days at a time. I've had it checked four times now and the turn signal controls have been replaced three times. I took it in again for the fourth time last Friday and some pinched wires were found and repaired and the mirrors replaced. Monday, yesterday while returning from the driving range they started flashing both signals again when I selected a left turn. I drove the cart all the way back to Magnolia Plaza with the left turn signal on and they would stop and restart several times by the time I got there, sometimes flashing very rapidly. Will be scheduling another appointment today to have it looked at. My question is, has anyone else had this problem and if so what was done to fix it? After the last fix it only took three days for it to malfunction again. Thanks in advance.

My thought--and no aspersions being cast upon your judgment--is that if you had the same place try to fix it four and they've replaced the turn signal controls three times, you might consider another repair shop. They should have gotten the hint after the first replacement (definitely after the second) that the turn signal control was NOT the problem and to look elsewhere for the issue. I'd definitely try another repair shop. |
I would save my money and just disconnect them.
No one gives or believes any vehicle signals in TV anyway. |

One of the interesting things you mentioned was the problem occurred for a LEFT turn. Does the problem also occur for a RIGHT turn as well? If not, I wonder if there is a loose wire that moves to the right when you make a left turn. Seems suspicious to me.

I had a similar problem, on our cart, there was an ELECTRONIC module that controlled the turn signals, brake lights and 4 way flasher functions, and despite the cart suppliers comment that these never fail, I purchased a new one and problem fixed. Note these are not repairable items and in my case these are custom made so only ONE supplier.
Send me a PM and we can discuss further over the phone if you would like more info. |

Electric ? Vehicle ?
I love hearing about anything that connects “electric”, “vehicle” and the word PROBLEM. Seems to be that we are seeing more and more of those words being connected to one another.

My experience tells me the mechanics at the Villages Golf Cars are a bit stymied by any turn signal issues. I went for the auto turn off feature on my turn signals on a new cart bought by from them. They didn’t automatically turn off most the time. Took it in for to have them fix it and they did. Then found out after dark that when fixing it they broke the lights, which would no longer turn on. Took it back again. They said the auto turn signal was broken, charged me for replacing that part but did fix the lights. The automatic turn signals still don’t work.

I will add some more information, there have actually been some wiring harnesses that were specific to the turn signal switch being installed, these were typically on older carts. It appears the newer carts went to a "universal" 9 pin connector where the manual turn signal switch could plugin. Then it was also possible (like on our cart) to have the electronic turn signal switch plug into an electronic control module that then plugs into the wiring harness. If this is the case, then you need to use that specific manufacturer's parts to repair.
Look at the wiring harness for a part number or manufacturer's tag, also look as the turn signal switch for similar information. Hope this helps. |

Not to be redundant, but I agree that the villagetinker is the kind of member/neighbor that all of us wish we had. VT, thank you for your always-helpful and friendly contributions to this site.

We had a similar problem with our cart from Carts and Clubs in Ocala. They replaced that module and all is well. Covered by the warranty.

Since the issue only happens on a left turn...Thats where the problem lies. As as someone else stated, if extra lights are put through the frame tube, a sharp edge, cut wire, etc is usually the culprit. Crazy that the villages put 3 turn signal switches in they should have learned after the first 2 for sure.
The turn signal modules are very sensitive as they are not protected from any kind of short and will wipe the module out in a heart beat and the only way to fix....is to replace. I see many DIYers short the modules out when doing electrical work on their carts. Be careful. |

I hope you have this all sorted out but there is always the Ol' standby if not.

Sounds like its an aftermarket turn signal switch.
Ive seen this before and its in the turn signal switch itself. The Aftermarket stuff is not very good. |
