Utah primary schools ban Bible for '''vulgarity and violence''' - BBC News

Bay Kid 06-04-2023 06:35 AM

Remove the Bible from schools and celebrate pride month. Our country is being destroyed. We are upside down.

Well, the OT has some PG-13 to R stuff in it. Funny though that Utah just noticed it.

Who made up the rule in Utah forbidding vulgar and violence in books in the school district? You should be asking them what they were thinking, when they came up with that rule.

The Bible - both old and new testaments, are veritable cesspits of violence, vulgarity, rape, incest, bestiality, depraved acts of all sorts, stoning people to death, pestilence, acts of greed, political conspiracies, the promotion and celebration of slavery, and a fresh batch of "smoting" at least twice per chapter per book.

If that's not vulgarity and violence, I don't know what is. If you want vulgar/violent books banned, the Bible is the FIRST one you should put on the list. If you don't want the bible banned, then maybe - don't have that rule?

As should schools for all topics, especially sexuality.

Taltarzac725 06-04-2023 12:49 PM

The Book of Mormon'''s physical and sexual violence is '''not particularly graphic'''

I looked up The Book of Mormon to see how they have handled that in Utah.

Byte1 06-04-2023 02:58 PM

With all the trash and vulgar language on prime time TV folks want to censure Bible teaching? Good grief! America is becoming the cesspit of the world. I wonder what GOD's patience limit is before he finally decides it's time to wipe Earth's slate clean and start over.
It always amazes me how STUPID supposedly well learned and supposed intelligent people can get in their arrogance.
There is still time for some, but I doubt they are smart enough yet.....or desperate enough. For some, there is not enough time to get it right.

Yes I agree as we get older we all fall for religion.
“ Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!”

When I was a child we learned ONLY stories from the Bible, prepared for use by denominational headquarters, and we didn’t use children’s bibles—just King James. They left out explanations of some things and left out some of the wildest stories, like the Levite whose concubine was raped to death, so he cut up her body and sent a piece to each tribe, but there were plenty of battles, and David sawing off Goliath’s head, and all that. It concentrated on stories. And we had to memorize a relevant verse every week. We also had a ten volume set of Bible Stories at home, and my mom read us at least one story every night. Sounds like “most churches” are teaching watered down versions of the Bible and straying from the teachings. Plenty of things to blame it on, but sounds like there is a lot of self-censoring going on. I went on to teach biblical literature for ten years at a state university, and this background from church and from my mom was a solid foundation. Most of my students were eager young Christians, but most were also biblically illiterate when they started the class, and they were startled to find how little they knew.

Yeah everywhere I go, I am bombarded with talk about pride month. To the surprise of no one at all, the talk is coming FROM homophobes who are against it, but continue to obsess about it and remind everyone how it exists and how much they are suffering as a result of some guy they don't know wearing a gown and heels in a parade in another state.

Anyone who really wants to demonstrate how tired they are of it - maybe stop talking about it so much.

PersonOfInterest 06-05-2023 07:49 AM

Good thinking. Ban a book that only a few, if any, would ever pick up and read. Protect the children from the vulgarity and obscenity of the world we live in so when they finally walk out the front door into the real world they will not be prepared to handle what they find.

Does it make any sense to ban a 'book' when there is internet access and digital content?

Robnlaura 06-05-2023 08:13 AM

Not homophobia at all

So, you are saying that anyone that does NOT condone the abnormal lifestyle that is perverted and that does not think that there should be a month dedicated to such perversion, is a "homophobe?" Do you even know the definition? What part about it not being normal don't you understand? I know of no one that does not tolerate the private deviant lifestyle of that alphabet group, even though they do not condone it. Those of us that complain about a month dedicated officially to celebrate such abnormal behavior, do so because the majority of this country does not endorse it. The idea of a month or any time dedicated to celebrating it is against most religious faiths and against what most parents teach their children. We do not wish for our children to be exposed to this abnormal lifestyle while the gov and WOKE society endorses it. To label someone a homophobe, which is the same as calling someone a bigot, might be turned around and label you as anti-semitic. Of course, I would not but I could understand why some would feel that way.
It's interesting how certain groups insist on labeling folks racists, sexists, bigots, homophobes, etc, just because we do not agree with or have the same view as them. It is not simply having an opposing opinion, but an affront to some if you do not agree with them and as a defensive posture, labeling is utilized.

"We" is plural, as in more than one. Did someone mention "everyone in the world?" Just wondering, because I did not take that comment as being "everyone." That poster might be correct in saying the MAJORITY feel that way. Just a thought.

I think the majority is sick and tired of all the hate for people who can no more help being gay than they can help being born with red hair or blue eyes. I wish that stupid Bible had never been written by evil people who wanted to control future gullible generations. It's really sad that you hate people, and I bet you call yourself a Christian. The funny thing is, if the man you call Christ was alive, he would tell you to stop hating people. "Love they neighbor" Mind your own business.

Actually, IMO they accuse folks of "hating" because they can not get folks to consider their lifestyle as normal, or at the very least endorse their lifestyle. Many folks like that have a tendency to accuse in order to put folks on the defensive. Personally, having some very close friends and family members that are gay, I tolerate their lifestyle UNTIL they or anyone else attempts to indoctrinate.
But, this has very little to do with the subject of banning the Bible in Utah public schools and I apologize.

Accusing me of "hating?" You belittle and demean one's faith and make false assumptions, and then attempt to be defensive? Sorry, but that dog don't hunt.

What about it? Have you read it? And what does that have to do with the current situation - that a law bans books for vulgarity and violence in the public school system, and one woman pointed out that a specific text "sacred" to an entire major religion in this country contains that violence and vulgarity, and therefore had to be removed.

If someone feels the Talmud fits the same category, then it should also be removed. OR - as I suggested - the law retconned and let students read these things FREEly - because y'know - land of the Free and all that.

It should be banned from the entire state of Florida - you know, where Woke goes to Die.

Jesus cared not just -about- the poor, but he cared FOR the poor. He fed them. He told his disciples to love the foreigner. He had a love affair with a prostitute. His mother was -not- impregnated by her husband, and he was okay with that. He was also a proponent of the separation of Church and State (the whole "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" bit in the synoptic gospels).

So basically - he was a democratic socialist. Definitely woke, no doubt about it.

Looks like Jesus will cease to be risen right here in the Free State of Florida - where Woke goes to Die.

🙏

John 3:16

John 14:6

John 16:33

Philippians 4:6-8

Philippians 2:9-11

Because of that obedience, God lifted him high and honored him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father.

Isaiah 41:10

Joshua 1:9

2 Corinthians 5:17

… there are MANY other ‘reminders’ of God’s LOVE & CHRIST’s sacrifice for all of us!

… I know some of you get uncomfortable regarding the Bible … obviously I don’t. I don’t have that many days left on this earth. Sharing some of these verses makes this day a lot better!

Interesting assumptions, but you really shouldn't misinterpret the Bible by stating that Jesus had an affair with a prostitute. Until your comment, I had actually believed that you might have studied Christianity. I will suggest that those that make fun of GOD, distort/pervert HIS word, do so at their own peril. I find it ironic that you accuse others of "hating."

Hmmm, are you sure that you understand the term "WOKE?" Hint: it is NOT synonymous with charity. I don't think that Jesus was thinking of African Americans and their perception of injustice. Just a guess.
