Signing up spouse
 

I am a new resident and when I went to register I was told my husband would not receive a resident card because he is not on the deed to the property. So I tried to register him as a guest but it wouldn't let me because he has the same address as me. I don't know how to get him registered. He has dementia and would probably not use it much but there are things he enjoys. Any suggestions?

Something is not right with what you are being told.

We have our house in a trust with neither of our names on the deed......we both have cards.

Our neighbor: She owns the house, but he has an annual cart since he is the live-in.

He is not a guest. He may be considered a non-owner resident. There is a separate ID card for that. I would call the Administration office, 352-751-3939, and ask if he needs a non-owner resident card instead of an owner card.

You have been lied too. He is entitled to a 3-year resident card. He just needs to show 3 pieces of proof like Drivers license, bank statement, and maybe some car insurance with the address of the house.

That is absolutely correct. To get a green resident card you must be on the deed. If you are a non-owner spouse, they will give you a resident card with exactly the same privileges, only it will be blue in color.

You were given accurate information. But as others have said, you can easily get him a blue card.

Sounds like they made a mistake. I am in same boat(not on deed) and I have a 3 year card that entitles me to everything. Card is blue colored, as opposed to a green colored card.

He can get a blue card and it has to be renewed every three years

This is the right answer. My son is 27 and lives with us. He has a blue resident card (instead of green) and has all the rights and privileges as my wife and I do. The only exception is since he is under 30 he cannot go to "adult" pools.

A clarification. You get 2 IDs with the house. He doesn’t even need to be a resident to get a blue one. My spouse was not married to me when I got the first house and she got a blue card and it was a rental. We live up north.

Not exactly accurate. If non-owner resident also lives at same permanent "up north" address, they can get a blue card no problem.

If you have a separate residence "up north" and live together in TV, to get a non-owner blue card requires more hoops to jump thru that you may not like. Check with district office in LSL for details.

Like previously said, my house is also in a trust so I am not on the deed the trust is. I still got the green permanent card. Talk to the people in the office over Starbucks in Sumter Landing.

The OP didn't say that the house is owned by a trust. I wouldn't create a trust just so a spouse can get a green ID card because it is very easy to get a blue card. If you have a trust, whether or not you can get a green card depends on the wording of the trust and who is the trustee. But, apparently, having a trust does not preclude you from getting a green resident card.

My wife owned the house we lived in, and she had a green Villages ID. They gave me one that was like hers, except it was blue (a spouse's card). Ask them for one.

i agree with this comment. i got my daughter a card because our address is on her driver's license-she was approved as a resident & given a Villages ID Card. she is not on the lease, so i'd ask another person. pls go to the SumterLanding office, they adresess these issues right away
