Minnesota State Fair New Foods for 2023.

Sweet, savory, strange: Minnesota State Fair unveils new foods list for 2023 | MPR News

Some of these would have me running for the nearest Port-a-Potty.

Some looked pretty tasty but over 50% looked awful to me. High sodium, sugar and fat junk food for the most part.

Even more so for the old standbys NOT listed here. "Heart-Attack-On-A-Stick" is always a big favorite. What is on the stick can be any one of many choices; alligator sausage, camel, pork chop, footlong-on-a-stick, fried snickers bar, "big fat bacon" (1/4 lb. pork belly impaled on your stick), etc. Fried and salty.

Going up there the last week in August to take in the fair: annual family outing usually over two days.

While growing up I always attended the New Mexico State Fair. Indian fry bread, cotton candy everything you can imagine with red and green chile on it, hot dogs, hamburgers. I went to one in Allentown, PA once which was fascinating. Lots of antique farm equipment. State fairs are fun! So are the rodeos!

Amen.

And Amen.

The only thing worthy of consuming at a fair is an overpriced beer. At one fair we saw a food truck serving fried butter?

I can’t wait to go up there at the end of August. It’s like a right of passage to fall every year

This makes me think you’ve never been to the Minnesota state fair. There’s so many different foods to try. My must-haves are the wild rice cheeseburgers and the frozen Keylime pie dipped in chocolate 😋. The Que Viet egg rolls are also de-lish!

Lutefisk… yuck! We live 20 minutes from the fairgrounds in White Bear Lake. This year I am dragging my husband to the MN State Fair as it may be our last year in Minnesota. You either love the fair or you hate it. :-)

Most of the foods look pretty tasty, and some look delicious. Which ones to choose? I was interested to note that many of the dishes use cheese curds. Just a few states where those are recognized. (And Canada, of course.) Fried Lutefisk tacos? Hooray for Scandinavian ethnic foods! It’s a Minnesota thing.

Would have gone for sure but had to wash my hair that day.

Isn't that the heart of a Sago palm? I thought those things were toxic.

Ha. Lutefisk. AK "Sewer trout". Saw a sign once at Byerly's (If you're a Minnesotan and live anywhere near the MSP metro you know about Byerly's) advertizing "fresh lutefisk". No such thing.

Big deal up there though at Christmastime. We used to attend the annual Gustavus Adolphus College (St. Peter, MN) lutefisk supper and concert. The concert was always great. The Lutefisk? Well... But they smother it in cream sauce and butter so it's not too bad. And of course the alternate is always Swedish meatballs which are great.

I once asked a Norski friend of mine, if Lutefisk is so great why do you folks only eat it once a year? He had no answer for that.

I’m in Minnesota now, I had a brain fart when I saw this in Talk of The Villages 😂🤣😂. And what do you have against Lutefisk anyway 😂🤣😂

Never met one I did not like. They are very cuddly.

Do these come with an appointment with a cardiologist?

patfla06 08-11-2023 04:44 PM

My stomach couldn’t handle most of these foods.
