I am new to the Villages and need to find some new doctors. Specifically, I am due for a knee replacement. Does anyone have a recommendation for a knee surgeon? Thanks!

Dr. Martinez at Optmotion Orthapedic is the best 407-355-3120

Third Vote for Dr. Duke in Ocala.
The people here on many sports teams know and love him and his office staff. He is and he has extremely competent, curteous and professional staff. Surgery is fine at West Marion Hospital and you can usually go home the same day. Good Luck to you! |
Dr. Williams is great. Walked out and hour after waking up. great PT people. Good look with Dr. Duke. Had my first appointment with his office in Nov. Was told I would have 2 more office visits and he'd probably get to surgery in late April, 5 month later.

Dr. Nguyen did mine. He is in Orlando but my follow up was here. Dr. Martinez and Dr. Dinh are here on route 44. They are all great but one thing they do different is make the incision on the SIDE of your knee not up the front. I have only had the side approach so can’t say for sure but they say it reduces the pain because you don’t have a cut into your quads. Yes I was golfing at 7 weeks but…it was still healing and swelling and some pain. These things don’t heal overnight. Dr. kept reminding me that it could take a full year to be 100% and he was pretty much right. Just want to set your expectations.

Dr Karina did mine 5 years ago. I was up and walking without help in 2 weeks and golfing in 2 months. I did do all the exercises before and after surgery that I was told to do and am very happy with the results.

I had horrible experiences with Dr Karina!! He told me I needed immediate knee replacement!! I decided to start with a gel shot to think about it and get second opinion. He proceeded to shoot in the wrong knee!! Then his office labeled my chart wrong that I needed a hip replacement!! My second opinion told me I did not need any surgery at all; only some rehab! I went to a third doctor back up north in chicago and he said no surgery needed!! It’s now been 6 years and my knee is still fine!!!

He did my total replacement surgery 6 years ago. He is gental and passionate in his work. He does the entire surgery by himself unlike others that use PAs to do most of their procedures. I’m an Army trained medical specialist and own a 23 year old international Radiology medical company and I have not seen a better joint replacement Orthopedic! |
Dr. Pulido at U of F Gainesville. Excellent surgeon, excellent care.

Dr. Steve Nguyen, (407) 355-3120. He is pretty much the “inventor” of full knee replacements using the lateral technique (from the side). He did my left knee three years ago and will do my right knee in a few months. When I last saw him he had done over 25,000 full knee replacements using his lateral technique. Dr. Nguyen is very popular and schedules surgeries as much as six months in advance. Make an appointment and get on Dr. Nguyen’s surgery schedule ASAP, you can always re-schedule or cancel.
The advantage of the lateral technique is greatly reduced post-surgery rehab. He does his in-hospital surgeries at Dr. Phillips Hospital in Orlando (the nicest small hospital I’ve ever been in). But the vast majority of his surgeries are now done on an outpatient basis at a surgery center nearby the hospital. Both Freedom Pointe Re-Hab and Lake Center for Re-Hab are very familiar with Dr. Nguyen’s re-hab orders, maybe others, as well. Typically you have re-hab appointments 3 days a week for three weeks, or until you can bend your knee to 120-degrees. He also has an office here in The Villages (Opti Motion Orthopaedics) on the south side of 44 just south of Brownwood. Dr. Nguyen does not come to The Villages office, which is staffed by two of his associate orthopaedic surgeons. Both the pre-surgery and post-surgery appointments can be done here in The Villages office by one of his two orthopaedic surgeon associates. |
Dr. Duke did both my knees. 15 years later and I am still going strong. Highly recommended.
