Heh. Charge what the market will bear, I guess.

But in my not-so-humble opinion, vanity is the primary motivator here. Before we moved to TV my wife's hairdresser was located in Duluth, MN and we lived south of the Twin Cities (both of us lived for several years in Duluth, which is where we met). Every six weeks, like clockwork, we'd drive the 400 mile round trip to Duluth and back so my wife could get her hair done. It wasn't a chore: we'd make a day of it, doing some shopping, eating at favorite restaurants, etc., and it was a day we could spend together (work life made that iffy, sometimes). But the cost was $140 per session with the hairdresser. We thought for years that we were the only ones doing that. Not even close. One woman drove up to Duluth from Iowa for the privilege.

Me? $20 covers a cut AND tip by Tom at Cal's Barber Shop in LSL. Perfectly satisfactory. Then again, men aren't as vain as some (most?) women appear to be.

Try salons in Leesburg or outside of TV

Definitely out of touch. My daughter pays $350 + Tip in Boston.

OrangeBlossomBaby 07-22-2023 09:52 AM

Shave it all and wear a wig. You get to pick and change styles, cuts, colors, lengths, textures. Get a few of them and switch them out with your moods. Two wigs at under $200 for the pair at Ace Wigs (dot) com are good for 2 years if I take good care of them. Shampoo, conditioner, a wig stand, under $50 total and will last you longer than the wigs do.

Yes, and that doesn’t include the air fare to Paris, France to get the bangs shaped … as a politician’s wife does. Vanity is correct. I personally, don’t like the way salons handled my hair and now do my own, with the exception of a blowout and professional make-up for special events.

Two Bills 07-22-2023 11:53 AM

I started cutting and doing my wife's hair color during COVID lock down. Got pretty good at it.
She will not go to hairdressers any more.
$176 to $300+!!!! I am saving her a fortune
I see a new, very expensive fishing rod and reel coming my way shortly, and no arguments!

Went with a friend to salon school here in Villages on Valentine's Day, $14 (keeping with the Valentine's theme), for color and went crazy and gave a $14 tip, lol

EdFNJ 07-22-2023 05:43 PM

Hey. Cal's Barbershop does "The Villages Cut" for women for under $20! Looks good on SOME folks.

retiredguy123 07-22-2023 05:59 PM

Cal's at Colony Plaza charges $16 for men and $19 for women. I keep waiting for a gender discrimination claim.

Probably charges by the number of hair on the head?

thelegges 07-22-2023 07:17 PM

Last 5 years..color and cut $180 plus tip… TV isn’t outrageous cost…problem is very few know how to high/low lights on non grey hair. So that $180 has to be fixed by someone outside of TV. We go 4 times a year north so we both still use our people who know hair doesn’t always have to be grey

What a great idea. My haircut should run about $1.47 + tax and tip.

That must have been a tough drive in the winter.

Stay Home

If you're not looking for a muti-color effect, you can simply do this at home.
You get your husband to learn the process, it takes about 10 minutes.
It just learning how to section the scalp area, once it's applied it takes about 20 minutes of wait time.
To add a bit of flair once the waiting time is over you jump into the shower to wash it off with your husband. If you take my recommendation, he'll most likely want color your hair at least twice a week.

ColtsFan 07-23-2023 04:49 AM

Check out Beauty First Hair Salon at Trailwinds next to Jersey Mikes Deli. Now going there instead of Color Me---my color and comb out was $68 and I loved it. Stop in and get a price list.

gbs317 07-23-2023 05:00 AM

I’ll be the first to admit it that men have it easy. 20 bucks haircut with tip, and outfit for special occasion is my dark blue suit for marry them and bury them.

Yep, well over $300 at Color Me on 466 for blonde high lights and a cut after a tip included. I tried Ulta to see if I could get that price down. It came out to about $260 -290-ish. Not much better. Pricing went up during the .... 2021-2022 um... chip shortage and never came back down. If I had the guts I would do my own all over blonde.

BoatRatKat 07-23-2023 05:26 AM

Box color $8.00, no tip. I get compliments all the time on my hair color even from the gal that cuts my hair!

Triker 07-23-2023 05:37 AM

It will be long hair here in TV don’t have to cut as often. Will just go for a trim. Gray hair it is.
Ladies previously paid $17 for wash cut style and the hi lo highlights was $40- $50.

Man cuts were $10

I had a girlfriend in New Jersey whose hairdresser, Ron, had a salon in New York City. He was also Marilyn Monroe’s hairdresser when he was very young. When he died a couple years ago, he got a full obituary in the.New York Times. My girlfriend would pay $500 including tip to have her hair colored and cut.

Yep, I have many friends who do not look as if they paid more than $35-$40. every 4-6 weeks, either.

It's all relative to disposable income, vanity and intellect, in my opinion. I love Free Enterprise, but have always looked for salons that aren't out to gouge their 'clients on hair and nails.

They are friendly, knowledgable and talented. Locally, you may consider traveling to several great salons in Ocala. Stylists there all know about Salon J_____ in TV.

Never heard of “The Villages Cut.” What is it?

Miss B GA 07-23-2023 06:24 AM

Search for 'hairdressers' on the various Villages Facebook pages, Nextdoor, etc. You will see lots of comments on this issue. If you go outside The Villages, you will find they are much less expensive.

Identify as a guy. It's working for a lot of people these days (/sarc).

Sandancer 07-23-2023 06:59 AM

Salon J

Salon J is related to the developers...I go to Mon Ami-just outside of the villages- 3 excellent hair dressers-I go monthly- under $100 for color, cut & styling {WITH TIP}

kendi 07-23-2023 07:06 AM

Husband pays $8 for cut in Wildwood. I pay $120 for color and cut in Colman. Very happy with the results, get lots of compliments

NotGolfer 07-23-2023 07:11 AM

They upsell here....at many places the "stylists" are compensated for selling products. You know when they talk about "levels"....it's when they sell the most (or less) products along with the service. Salon J_____ does that and I'd bet others do too.

JerseyGurl 07-23-2023 07:28 AM

My daughter is a hairdresser in Pennington NJ (near Princeton). Haircut and blowout $75. Cut and color upwards of $200. Here I go to Fantastic Sams. Cut $20; wash cut and blowout $35. I don’t color waste of money.

Heytubes 07-23-2023 07:30 AM

Village Cut

The Village Cut makes pretty women look like pretty men. Just my opinion.

rothbear 07-23-2023 07:32 AM

Wow! So glad that my hair hasn't turned gray....I'm not joking! I have dark auburn hair and so far I only have a few white ones interspersed that unless I point them out no one sees. I wait to get it trimmed until it is really bugging me. $19 with tip at Great Clips.

P.S. In case you are wondering, I just turned 72.

I've actually thought of doing that. I was inspired by Schitt's Creek, and that woman who wore all the wigs. As I get older my hair is getting thinner. My hair is long right now, so I can wear it up for the summer, off my neck, but wigs would be fun.

When I get my hair cut, I say, "Don't give me a menopause haircut." My hair is pure white, and I'm afraid they will think I want that cut.

Armytwin 07-23-2023 07:41 AM

Go see Kim at Fringe Salon. She doesn’t charge outrageous prices and she’s really good. Both her and my sister go to her.
