Weed
1 Attachment(s)
This weed has taken over our garden and growing between
the expansion strip areas in our driveway. What can I do to control this? https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...1&d=1690373157 |
Spray it with Roundup. Buy a container from Lowes that has a battery powered sprayer attached. Very easy to use.

I use Ranger , it makes Agent Orange cry!
|
I just pull them out (slowly) by the roots. They eventually grow back, or pop up in other spots. But it's a satisfying sensation to pull them by hand, to me.
|
Use a watering can when using 'Big Boy' weedkillers.
Drift from spraying can take out the good guys as well. ( Say's the guy who once killed a whole border spraying in a hardly noticeable breeze!) |
One year in Wisconsin my wife's nephew fertilized his lawn with his tractor, his sister's and his father's
lawn using weed killer. All the lawns looked great the year after. |

Nothing looks good after being sprayed with them! |
Weed Killer
• White Vinegar = ½ gallon • Table Salt = ¼ cup • Dish Soap = ½ teaspoon Kills everything - I spray about once a month |

Back in the day a little gasoline did the trick. Don't have a gas can now, so its Roudup.
|
That weed is called spurge. It goes to seed rapidly. I pull by hand if in the lawn; spray with Round Up if in the beds or in the cracks of the walk or drive way.

up to me now. I'm finding that weed (picture) all over and that's why I ask the dear hearts in TV. Thank You |
My last name is Weed...this thread is killing me!
Of English/Irish descent and the Weed surname is presenting more and more interesting challenges. My daughter-in-law when picking up g'kids at preschool had to put the placard "Weed Pickup" on the dash. Interesting reactions. My g'kids have adapted versions of Weed on their social media posts to cope. It's a pain.

Use Green Gobbler 20 or 30% vinegar available from ZORO.com The vinegar will decimate weeds. It is quite caustic and cannot be applied on a breezy day or other landscaping plants will get burned also. Wear gloves and eye protection. Very effective on weeds.

Pull, pull,pull.

My old mates surname was Pratt. His life was a nightmare! His nickname was 'Aright.' |
I try to avoid using horrific chemicals whenever I can, so for weeds, I pull them out.

Use a post-emergent herbicide, but VERIFY IT WILL NOT KILL THE TYPE OF GRASS AROUND THE WEED aka “Floratam” St Augustine. However, this crab grass here (planted as "lawns") is very sensitive to "safe to use" stuff, if applied too concentrated.
Maybe this would work... 3 Way Max Turf and Ornamental Broadleaf Herbicide domyown {dot} com/way-max-turf-and-ornamental-broadleaf-herbicide-p-9853.html For the broad spectrum, kill it all, approach... There are 2 types of weed killer actions. Roundup equivalents work for a short time, a day or so, because their active ingredient is broken down by sunlight. It absorbs into the week and fills to the root. This is what you use around other vegetation. Veg killer type are long acting. Kills now and remains in the soil active for months. This is what you use in driveway cracks. Never simply pull it out. Pieces of root break off and remain alive in the soil and will regrow rapidly. That become a full time, never ending job. Weed killer first, wait, then pull the dead remains. A good trick when spraying is to surround the weed with a cardboard "wall" to prevent over spray. |

It’s better to use Roundup than a vinegar solution in the garden, although both will kill weeds. Roundup becomes inert when it hits soil and doesn’t affect anything grown there afterward. Vinegar will make the soil more acid until it dissipates and can kill anything planted until it does. |
Instead of spraying Roundup, put some in a container and paint it on with a paint brush. It won't spread to other plants.

I used Ortho Weedclear which you hook up your hose and spray your whole lawn. Worked great. Took care of this weed as well as all the chamber bitter that is very hard to kill. Didn’t hurt my lawn

As for the weeds, pulling is good exercise and relieves stress. Good luck. |

Nothing at all to control this weed can be done. Sell the house and move before its too late.

We called this 'spurge' up north.
Very aggressive and difficult to remove without collateral damage to lawns.
Be careful...the sap from weed is a skin irritant. Had moderate to good success with "Spurge Power" and "MESO4SC". I don't know if these are available if Florida. |
Tell your wife I am living proof that colon cancer chemo works. Surviving 10 years now when I was told I had less than 40% chance of living for 5. I do suffer from extreme peripheral neuropathy as a result of the chemo, however I am alive.

1. Clean out the expansion gaps with a power wash and brush. 2. Allow to dry, then run a vacuum along the crack. 3. Buy (appropriate sized) filler rod from Amazon. Then fill the gap with the "rod" (foam rope) approximately 1/4" below the surface. 4. Lay down duct tape along the edge of the gap. 5. Fill the remaing "gap" with "gap filling" caulk (self leveling - available at local hardware store). 6. Remove the duct tape. Did this 3 months ago and have not had one weed "grow" through! |
