Golf shoes Question

Are Golf shoes required on the golf courses or will sneakers suffice?

villagetinker 07-30-2023 11:54 AM

I do NOT know the regulations, however I have found sneakers to be slippery under some conditions, so I wear cleated golf shoes when golfing.

retiredguy123 07-30-2023 12:00 PM

Sneakers are allowed.

MrFlorida 07-30-2023 12:27 PM

Sneakers are ok.

gatorbill1 07-30-2023 12:36 PM

Golf shoes look better - may not help you though.

Keefelane66 07-30-2023 03:19 PM

Maybe if I switched from Sneakers to Golf Shoes I would improve my score

Not recommended, but you can play in your bare feet if you want. Sam Snead did it in his early years to improve his weight shift and balance.

asianthree 07-30-2023 05:01 PM

Golf shoes come with cleats and without. If I am walking I wear cleats, using a cart I use without. If you are new stick with tennis shoes. It’s about comfort first, golf shoes will not improve your game early on.

I have golf shoes that range from $100 to $350. No matter which I use game remains consistent. I have even played in berkies ..because my shoes were in the other cart.

Here's the dress code that includes acceptable footwear. Golf shoes and athletic shoes are required. Sandals that have a heel strap are also allowed. Flip flops are not permitted.

bowlingal 07-31-2023 05:46 AM

Even flip flops are used on a golf course, I've seen it.

I played with someone in Crocks.

MidWestIA 07-31-2023 05:52 AM

golf shoes

I think they stopped having much value when steel cleats went out not much difference to athletic shoes short of STEEP hills. Restriction wise only steel spikes are restricted in most courses not sure about here

wamley 07-31-2023 06:12 AM

There is only a requirement that you NOT wear cirtain shoes that could damage the greens. Other than that wear whateever you want. Golf shoes provide an amount of stability for you to swing your clubs and traverse some of the hazards on a gold course.

Bay Kid 07-31-2023 07:02 AM

I walk the executive courses. I started wearing walking shoes years ago. Teaches me to have quiet feet, sometimes. Much more comfortable for me.

I have too and I can't see how without slipping.

MatchPoint 07-31-2023 08:11 AM

Safety Consideration

You can easily slip on wet grass due to the motion of a golf swing. You want to avoid taking the chance of slipping and getting hurt for the price of inexpensive golf shoes. I recommend the ones without removable cleats and, waterproof kind, that way, your feet stay dry.

Sounds like cleats are not allowed.

dtennent 07-31-2023 08:55 AM

While you can play in sneakers or golf shoes, golf shoes are made to play in both rain and shine. My golf shoes are comfortable even in wet weather. They clean up easily and I can change into my dry shoes when I get home.

wisbad1 07-31-2023 09:16 AM

I’ve seen people wear t-shirts or only have one set of clubs for two people.

Collars are required for men. I also thought using one set of clubs for two people was not allowed, but I've been looking for the source & can't seem to find it.

I don't know if it's a rule here in the villages about sharing clubs but it would drastically slow play for the groups behind. I wouldn't want someone using my clubs nor would I use others.

There is a rule. Here is an excerpt from "golfthevillages.com":

"Each golfer on the executive courses is required to be equipped with a set of golf clubs. Sharing of clubs is not permitted due to pace of play concerns."

If you are in the market for golf shoes, hit the shop in Brownwood, they always have a sale going on....

I agree those who wear cleats and shuffle or scuff along do extreme damage

Have you ever seen a new golfer that could swing hard enough to slip on a tee?

99% of the golfers in TV don't swing hard enough to slip on the Tee.

Not true! Shoes (foot covering) are required.

As stated, not recommended ....

Paul1934 08-01-2023 09:10 AM

Spiked golf footwear came into being to assist players in walking the hills and slopes of the course, not to assist with the swing.
If you are slipping during your swing, you are over swinging.
Play and practice with what ever I am wearing at the time. Reinforces swinging within your self and discredits the ‘grip and rip’ mentality so prevalent today.

DrHitch 08-01-2023 03:49 PM

What a great bunch of replies.

I'd add that many women also play in "golf sandals" that have straps similar to Teva water shoes.

You too will be very acceptable to wear these only if you paint your toes....haha

I suspect that's why you're playing Keyboard Golf, rather than playing professional golf. The statistics are unequivocal ... "Grip & Rip It" is the key to good scores. You should be hitting it as hard as you can.

Paul1934 08-02-2023 05:31 AM

Play ‘Champion’ courses, with both modern blades as well as hickory shafts. Current index is 11. Get your facts straight before making assumptions.

11? Try to hit it harder, so I won't have to give you so many strokes! :1rotfl:
