Recommendations for Gutter installation

Hi everyone!
My wife and I have just purchase a courtyard villa in Lake Denham.
When the rain is heavy we notice it runs down and through the lanai screen.
We are thinking of installing some gutters around the side and back of the house.

Has anyone else recently done the same? If so what contractor did you use? Were you happy with their work? Anything we should be aware of, or contractors we should avoid? Etc. Finally, how much would this typically cost?

Appreciate everyone’s input and guidance.

Thanks,
John Russo

We went with the Guru Gutter Guys. Very happy with the work and it's part of team that does Solar and Roofs.

Kenswing 08-07-2023 09:47 AM

Stipes and Hills are the heavy hitters here. Both are very good. Call both and go with whoever can get there first.

Also call A Action Gutters very fair and reasonable You only need 5 inch gutters Does the job fine

billethkid 08-07-2023 05:09 PM

I do expect to call the suggested vendors.
We already have gutters all around.
We need the downspouts extended further away from the house.....7 locations......mix of white (house) bird cage attached to house (bronze 6").

Do you know if they do small jobs like this?

If you are just talking about extending the gutters across the lawn, this is an easy DIY project, and the big box stores all carry the downcomers. You could also use splash blocks for an even easier project. Now if you are talking about the buried corrugated drainage lines and the popup covers, then yes these are more work involved, and many of the local landscape companies can do this, we had ours done as part of the landscaping years ago, and I have lost the contact info.

I can second Hills. I also got the 6 inch.

Brian Terry Vinyl. Also ask them about screening in your entry area. It will keep the lovebugs and other critters out.

I’ve thought about gutters, but haven’t decided. I live in a courtyard villa. It has gutters wherever the end of the roof is horizontal, but not in the back, where the end of the roof is at an angle. The lanai has screens on two sides. I’ve thought about installing a gutter just above the screening on the end where there the roof is at an angle (see photo—much enlarged). However, we often get rains here where the rain falls obliquely and a gutter wouldn’t help. The rain hits the screen and some of it goes through and lands on the lanai. (On the long side of the house, rain sometimes beats on the windows, wall, and sliding glass doors, even though for some rains the rain falls straight down and the gutters handle it.)

I’ve wondered if it would help more to install 12” or 18” eaves above the rear wall of the lanai, rather than a gutter. Then a lot more of the rain would land away from the house. I assume this would require approval from the ARC.

I also have a screened in lanai and I also had your problem. I had the gutters installed over the length and it did indeed help. But, when the rain/wind is blowing into the lanai from the north, it still floods. Stipes did the work

Stripes +1 (352) 390-7744 doing our patio home this week. $900 6”gutters. 6” gutter does water better and less downspouts.

NoMo50 08-08-2023 06:09 AM

We used Stipes for our gutters about 2 1/2 years ago. Very happy with his work and pricing. We went with the 5" gutters on our Designer home. Even in the heaviest rains, and there have been many, the 5" have never come close to being inadequate. One advantage with the 6" is that you would need fewer downspouts. Not really an issue for me, as all downspouts run underground to popups in the yard.

Try to get Stipes back when your gutters are leaking a week after installation!

banjobob 08-08-2023 06:31 AM

If you have spouting installed pay the extra for( 5 inch ? )wide gutter torrential rain will flood the standard size spouting.

I also spoke with these folks, very informative, and no pressure sales. They Only do 6”gutters and I just wanted the front of my garage and back of my lanai in our gardenia model home. Haven’t decided yet as the home has never had gutters in the 12+ years of the house.

I had no problem getting them out here to recaulk a seam and extend a downspout after we installed a planter.

The Roof Guys

We used THE ROOF GUYS that are affiliated with THE SOLAR GUYS here in TV. 866-259-2364≥. We called them on a Wednesday, came out that afternoon and gave an estimate and gutters were installed on Friday. I too would recommend 6 inch gutters. If I recall correctly, they have a selection of colors. We still went with white but may be an option to consider.

Make sure whomever you have install - they DO NOT use spikes and ferrules as that is old technology and will pull out. Also - seamless gutters.

Never understood why builders don’t put gutters on homes!

Maker 08-08-2023 10:25 AM

Be sure to get the water away from the foundation at each downspout.
Corrugated underground pipe is best. A splash pad is not sufficient. Water must be routed many feet away from the foundation.
Also be sure the ground slopes away from the house.
Nothing wrecks home foundations faster than lots of water washing away the ground in just one concentrated spot from a downspout every time it rains.

Villagesgal 08-08-2023 10:56 AM

The Gutter Guys in Ocala. Their salesman is a Villager. Fair pricing, quick installation and guaranteed for life not to leak.

They do a partial gutter job in the front porch area.

Agree! We went underground at most downspouts.

I was almost completely screwed. Luckily got bids and and long stories short I highly recommend K.V. Gutters. 201.679.5190. TRUST ME, I never met them before and I rarely if ever recommend anyone. Tell them Christie Wright sent you.

patfla06 08-14-2023 10:39 PM

We had Stipes install 6” gutters on the entire house.
They did a great job & have had no problems.
