Baldur's Gate 3 Video Game - How About a Villages Group?!?
There's been some recent talk of video games played by Villagers. That's wonderful, and the games mentioned are all good. But I have a thought...
Why not start brand new with a brand new game?!? Baldur's Gate 3 is set for its initial launch in late August/early September. It would be really great if a group of Villagers got together and formed a guild (or whatever they will be called in BG3) to play the game together from the very beginning. Baldur's Gate games have always been absolutely top tier, and all the information so far points to BG3 being right up there also. It will be available at launch on the PlayStation 5 and the PC. Likely other platforms in the future. My first pick would be the PS5, but I would gladly play the PC version if some folks would favor that. What do you think? |
Hmmm….I’ll check it out! I’m a PC guy. Currently playing DayZ and Rust.
I never really step that far away from some of the Blizzard titles like Diablo, StarCraft….etc. |
I stick with MUDs. Graphics games stopped "doing it for me" when I realized that my imagination could paint the pictures better than any pixelated NPC could. The only graphics game I've enjoyed since I stopped playing King's Quest was Myst. I've been MUDding ever since.

In case you want to read more, here's a link to a recent PC Gamer article. Check it out, especially the part that says "...there's plenty to love in Baldur's Gate 3—enough to earn it one of the highest review scores that PC Gamer has ever given." :) Baldur's Gate 3: Everything we know | PC Gamer |

But regarding “graphics prevent you from using your imagination”…not at all imho. For me, they add to the immersion into the game world. |

I'm also playing Diablo IV. My original Diablo guy from the original game in 97 was a sorc, so I'm a sorc in D4. Turns out it's a fairly weak character, but I'm having fun with it. I work a lot, so I don't get a whole lot of time to play. At 71 now in Torment with my own Hydra build. I can launch two 4 headed Hydras and with the passive that fires every 200 mana, get a third 5 headed hydra as well. In torment, at my level, I get smoked fairly quickly, so this fire and run around like a chicken works a bit. heh. I was thinking about the latest BG. I really enjoyed the original. I've also been playing Elder Scrolls online since beta. Still playing although I divert into other games on occasion, like my current D4 Jaunt. I'm Malbor#1599, feel free to friend me on D4. I generally can only play early and late though, but it won't always be that way. |

I’ll see if I can friend you on D4. |

What I play is not quite that. MUD is multi-user, interactive, "live action" text-based, typically using some variation of C++ or C# or similar with or without javascript and/or Python. The specific game I play is based loosely on the D&D Dark Sun campaign and the Frank Herbert Dune series of novels, with a bit of Black Company tossed in. It's permanent death - no resurrection. It's not high fantasy, but it's also not low fantasy either because it has a robust magick system. It's roleplay intensive and runs 24/7 with players from all over the world on a single server. It's been running since 1991 and has gone through a myriad of structural and cultural changes over the years. I've been playing it since 2002. |
I like playing first person shooters. Using Xbox playing Destiny 1 and 2. Play with my kids, grandkids, and nephew in other states. Always up for new encounters.

Related factor…
At launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available on PC and Playstation 5. I assume most of you expressing an interest are leaning toward the PC version. Is the any interest at all in the PlayStation 5 version? |

I don’t have a PS5. I’m pretty sure they aren’t going to make it for my Atari 2600 😂 I built a new gaming PC this year so I’m sticking with that. |
Ah, Baldur's Gate. I played the first one on my computer right after it came out around 1998. I also got the expansion a year later. My main character was a dwarf warrior called Thunderlips. Had a lot of fun playing it and then in the early 2000s I got my nephew and young family friend into it and they enjoyed it and I had fun replaying it again. Games I've played since then are few but have more recently enjoyed playing a game called Marvel Avengers Alliance and these days it's DC Legends. I don't do the big graphic games anymore but Baldur's 3 sounds like fun.

Sounds like we have some interest, so I’d be glad to try to set up a guild (or whatever they call them) in BG3. Is that okay with you folks who are interested?
I’ll also ask one more time…is there any interest in the PlayStation 5 version? I’ll assume we’re going PC unless I hear otherwise. :) |

Okay, gang, I have to throw myself on the mercy of the court.
Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3) is a different type game than I originally thought. It's still a very good game, and we could still get a group together to play and I'm sure it would be fun. But here's the deal... BG3 is a game that can be multiplayer for up to 4 players. But it is not an open world MMORPG, which I originally thought it was. You have to enter or create a lobby where friends you want to play with can join. I would still like to play the game, but it is not something I want to take charge of. Do we have a volunteer or volunteers? :) Now, since I really started this thread in the hopes of getting some of you folks to join an MMORPG, I'd still like to explore that option, where we could start a guild and drop in and out at our leisure, playing alone or with as many members of our guild as we wished to at any time. As an example, I've played Elder Scrolls Online for quite a while. It is a great game. We could roam an open world and do as we please, with as many of our guild mates as we wished to. There is even a 'scaling' option, so players of very different levels can meaningfully group together. If anybody is interested in giving that a try, I would be glad to lead that effort, setting up a guild and doing all the related tasks necessary. Let me know. Well, I know I've changed course a bit in this thread, but I hope you will consider an MMORPG where we could start fresh. It could be Elder Scrolls, or we could pick a similar game from several choices. I'm open to suggestions. Let's game, gang! We just need to agree on how!! :) |
Yeah I remember it not being a MMORPG. The 3 of us - me, my nephew, and young family friend - just took turns and watched each other. I know kids love when you watch them play but I'd rather just play than sit and watch someone else so I understand the change-up here.

I will present an option(s) very soon. And I’ll post something here at that time to see if others are interested. 🤓 |
