How did your neighborhood fair?

Richmond we didn’t have any power or wifi loss

Ugly tree in the prairie still standing. Swaying alot, and still ugly

Water gage says 2” but because of the gusts it’s not coming strait down.

Outside I can hear faint hum from turnpike so wind gusts can’t be that bad.

I know we have few hours left but so far so good

PugMom 08-30-2023 06:17 AM

no issues here, by magnolia plaza. just winds & rain-- we've been spared.

cjrjck 08-30-2023 06:28 AM

I slept through the worst I guess. Looking outside, I have a few potted plants that can often tip over in heavy wind and they are still standing. One plant out front I hate but my wife won't let me take it out. Last year it got decimated by one of the hurricanes but came back to life this spring unfortunately. It looks like normal today. No sign of any wind trauma. I expect rain banding to continue on and off until early afternoon or so. Some will be heavy. Golf courses will benefit.

Blueblaze 08-30-2023 07:36 AM

You're kidding! I got up this morning and checked the news and discovered the hurrican was about to hit land and there was a tornado warning for an area just three miles north of my house, extending up to Ocala. The news said I was currently experiencing a fierce storm and 50 mph winds. I walked outside and it was sprinkling and the trees were swaying in a pleasant breeze.

Hard to imagine Brownwood had it worse than the North Side. Did they forget to extend "The Bubble" that far South?

Stu from NYC 08-30-2023 08:15 AM

Has it gone past us yet? Been waiting and watching and nothing much at all, just a drizzle in Bonita

jebartle 08-30-2023 08:16 AM

Thumbs up!

ThirdOfFive 08-30-2023 08:23 AM

Lawn looks better today than it did yesterday. Rather pleasant morning actually.

Doppler weather radar is great -- but it also produces more false alarms than actual events.

True words.

But giving the devil his due...those alarms are what media thrives on.

Taltarzac725 08-30-2023 09:01 AM

Took our dog on a short walk when there was a break from the rain. Still quite windy but no debris in the road as far as I could see right around here.

This is Lynnhaven. But, I only saw a little bit of our neighborhood.

Lots of areas of Florida were slammed by Idalia. But we as far as I can tell do not seem to be one of them. No news about the Villages is good news.

There was storm? Where?

Enjoyed my nothing burger. Glad I didn't waste my time buying bottled water, filling my bathtub, gassing up the car and moving everything off of the lanai.

JSRusso 08-30-2023 09:20 AM

Just some light rain in Lake Denham. Looks like we were spared and I’m thankful for that. Hope the folks up north are all ok.

We don’t have a tub, just a big utility sink, didn’t bother filling it up

Heard from my grandson up near Pensacola. The only difference for him was that it was a lot cooler this morning than yesterday morning.

Only got 0.5" of rain in Calumet Grove. Was hoping for more.

I'm glad I'm not one of those kinds of people who wait til the day before a hurricane to stock up on water, batteries, etc. I buy batteries randomly when there's a sale, after checking to see if any I already have are near their expiration date. I buy water every month - in jugs and 16.9-oz bottle cases. I figure since the tap water isn't fluoridated anyway, there's no need for me to endure the nasty taste and texture of Florida tap water (yes, we have a filter. Yes, it still tastes like old egg-swamp). So we keep spring water in the house year-round.

As for how we fared - I counted THREE leaves stripped off my lemon tree. I'm truly heartbroken. I let them fly free, because this is the Freedom state and they deserved to die with dignity.

Was that spring water from Houston Texas?

Slept like a baby.

Friends have a place in Cedar Key.. They arrived last night, happy TV was spared, so they have a dry place to stay.

You’re so witty!
Santiago looks fine. No issues here. Arby’s and McDonald’s weren’t open at noon. KFC was open, as was Hobby Lobby.

mikeycereal 08-30-2023 01:19 PM

Light rain and light wind intermittently since last night. Power and internet was still on when I woke up. Streets were obviously wet but not flooded. Enjoyed a morning walk at 10:30 am. Got sprinkled a bit then it stopped. Ponds could use at least a foot or 2 more. It hit our village harder last year since it was closer.

Not much near Laurel Manor area, a few, VERY few, palm fronds around. Rain gauge shows much less than the predicted 2-3 inches, maybe half and in. at most. But, had reservations at that charming inn with the legendary chef and dinning room on Cedar Key for the seafood festival... I'm thinking one MORE year with no festival, first covid and now "this"... all under water. Very sad sight.

Did they fly or drive down ? Just wondered, looks like last night I-75 was completely flooded and closed. Were they caught up in that ? HAD reservations for seafood festival on the island in Oct. Was so looking forward to it after the covid hiatus ! Your friend surely have a challenge ahead getting their place livable again. Prayers for them.

Poland Spring. It's collected and bottled from several natural springs in Maine. I used to be able to get it at Staples by the case, but they only sell the brand's sparkling water, which I don't drink at all. So I get it from BJ's instead. And then for the jugs, I get it by the gallon at Walmart. Pretty sure it comes from the springs in Zephyrhills. It's not as crisp as Poland Spring but it's still better than Florida Tapwater.

Just curious, how does one fly from Cedar Key to The Villages?
Never mind, I see thru NYC or Charlotte.

You are assuming a commercial flight.

Drove to Gainesville Tuesday, because school started it was a zoo. But said roads were steady. We were going to the festival also, not going to happen this year. 4 couples offered so came the back way TV

bowlingal 08-31-2023 05:36 AM

we have been very lucky with the last 3 hurricanes here in the villages.

Dgodin 08-31-2023 07:03 AM

Country Club Hills. Mild storm, not very much rain or wind. We've seen worse thunderstorms.

Chi-Town 08-31-2023 07:29 AM

Wasn't looking forward to put everything back. Then realized I might as well power wash the area. So now I'm doing two things that are not on my favorites list. But still very happy that we got off so easy.

OhioBuckeye 08-31-2023 08:08 AM

All I think about is the poor stiffs that have EV’s & maybe won’t have power for maybe a week. That would be worse yet, right?

Our condo unit and my sailboat (attached to a floating dock) survived with no damage in Hudson but the neighbors living in the Sea Ranch area (adjacent to the condo complex) suffered with massive flooding.

Same as Ian with a couple inches of rain, wind, and no damage here at Mabel Villas. Some thunderstorms are much worse.

msmr23@gmail.com 08-31-2023 08:57 AM

nothing

3/4 inches of rain, a little wind, way less than the usual tropical storm. Our prep is to take in our yard sign and open a bottle of wine.

dougawhite 08-31-2023 09:14 AM

Nothing Burger

Off Belvedere got only 3/4" on my rain Guage and only 20 gallons added to my rain barrel. With a typical FL thunderstorm my 100 gal rain barrel fills up in 10 minutes.

So glad your boat was at a floating dock. Others not so lucky. Friends have drone flying over their place today. Have to say we’re we’re lucky with the wobble, we have had more damage from regular thunderstorms here.

Our oldest has vaca home on Barrier Island, right by Wilmington, North Carolina. Said there’s damage to his roof, but on the upside probably would’ve had to replace it in the next two years anyway.

I swear since they bought their house on the island every hurricane travels to their back door. “ so it’s their fault.”

pikeselectric 08-31-2023 01:45 PM

All is well in our neck of the woods (Wildwood - Off of SR 44). No flooding luckily. Lots of gusty winds but have to say, we are lucky!

Byte1 08-31-2023 03:05 PM

Was there a hurricane? Hmmm, it must have skipped over us. Gotta love all the hysteria though. Very entertaining.
